I don't get it. I mean, this is totally a joke, right???
If it's not a joke, then...
It's just a good series, really. Try out a game or two, and see for yourself. A good place to start would be FFXIII.
y is ff so good

Uh, no... No it wouldn't. A better place to start would be FFVII or FFIX or FFVIII... or even FFIV or VI. Not XIII.
Well, from what I hear, people who haven't played FF before have played XIII and they love it. 'Course, I still haven't played it for lack of a PS3 soooo....
Anyway, I say start with the first one. Can't beat the original, imo.
As for why they're good, I say they do things differently than most games. Very original stories, characters, settings, and a real desire to try and change up the formula (at least from my experience).
Fantasies completed:
I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XII
I would also always suggest starting from the beginning and seeing how the series progressed. As to why I feel it is good: they are generally well done games that offer good characters/stories, memorable scenes, and fun, and at times deep, gameplay. I would disagree about them being the stories or characters being original as there is nothing original left. Everything has been done before that is why how they [stories & characters] are presented is important.
Almost forgot the music. Its damn good.
Main series FFs Beaten - FF: 4x, FFII: 3x, FFIII: 3x, FFIV: 3x, FFV: 3x, FFVI: 4x, FFVII: 5x, FFVIII: 5x, FFIX: 3x, FFX: 4x, FFXII: 3x, FFXIII: 2x, FFXV: 2x
Those games aren't widely avaliable to everyone. If you happen to have access to PSN, then yes, a classic like FFVII would definately be the best place to start so you can get a feel for FF at its best. Also, FFXIII is likely to be a more attractive game (perhaps not to veterans of the series), because of time relevance and also partly due to accessability, to the general audiance and those who want to start their journey into the series. I'm all for the classics, but if you can't download FFVII - IX for whatever reason, FFXIII is an excelent place to start.
I would never, ever recommend starting the series with XIII because once you play one of the other games, expecting the same system, you're going to be in for a real shock.
I think XIII is completely different to the other games in the series. The only one it has it's similarities to is XII, and even then it's different. The rest are totally different.
Also, the other games are much more accessible than you think. 1-4 are easy to find. V and VI are easy if you know where to look (ebay, amazon), and X-XII are even easier to find, and a whole ton cheaper too. I agree VII-IX aren't easy enough, but you can still find them out there.
I like the option and freedom that it gives you
Final Fantasy indulges you in a world similar to our own but as the name entitles, fantasy. They all have amazing stories and the gameplay is unmatched for an rpg IMO. That's why FF is so good.
I originally enjoyed the Final Fantasy series for its ability to interweave story, music, and graphics together and produce an amazing interactive experience. I think with XII and XIII, the story element hasn't been as good, and even the music hasn't been as good (although I'd say the music is still above par - it's just that the music from VII-IX was mindblowing awesome).
If somebody asked me which FF game they should play first, I'd probably recommend X (although VII is still my favourite) because I think it has the best combination of audio, video and story (VIIs block characters, while classic, are really looking dated now). If they wanted just gameplay, I'd recommend XII - I thoroughly enjoyed XIIs battle system (and for those who hate random battles, XII is a big change from previous FFs. XII's system is also seamless - XIII still requires one to enter a battle screen, although the battles themselves aren't random).

You gotta start out on one of the ATB based battle systems to really see what Final Fantasy is all about. You gotta go back to VII, VIII, & IX (the game that the developers themselves said is a tribute to the roots of the series) and really take in those games because that is the bread and butter of the Final Fantasy series. Having a World Map, Turn based battling, riding chocobos and airships all across the World Map. Although X-XIII got very visually stunning they sometimes got to linear (X & XIII the most) and none of them had a real "World Map" (XII had more feel of a World Map then the others). Go back to VII - IX or even further if you wanna know why Final Fantasy is so great.
Wanna Know More:
Yeah, 9 is actually pretty cheap on amazon last I checked. So is 6 (less than half what I bought it for! ) I'd never suggest starting with 13. Because It's my least favorite, but y'know... Think that's a valid reason anyhow. I'd suggest starting with the early games, like 1, II (PSP) 3, 4 (DS) 5, 6 (PSX/SNES/GBA, though they might be hard to track down) etc. Then work your way up. Just don't be shocked when the graphics aren't as good because the games are old, like one person did in the past that I recall. She was like, 'I don't like FF6. It has bad graphics compared to FF7." Wanted to punch her.
But yeah; I like Final Fantasy for the music, the characters, the gameplay, the plot. Probably mostly the plot, characters, and music, actually. It usually just has a compelling story and characters, although the newest one didn't so much. Some people liked it. Good for them. I just don't like the style with the FF7 spin offs and FF13.
Also like the art direction most of the time. Anyhoo...
Wuv, Yer Mom
I really don't know but they just are end of story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
