whats your take on the 'all or nothing' mind set for ff games?

some people say to be a true ff fan, you gotta play em all. idk how i feel about it because i kinda lost interest in the newer games. after 10, excluding the mmos, i really didn't like 12 and stopped after the stillshrine Miriam, and i have not yet played 13 even as i sold my 360 thinking id never play consoles again (though ff13 is probably the only console game id play atm)

tbh, i haven't even beaten 9 just because i couldn't get into the story, and i hear its one of the bests (i got to like disc 2)

    my all time favorites are 7 and 10. then 8, 6, 4, 5, 3, 2, 1.

I feel so behind because of the 13 videos I see on youtube - it looks beyond epic!

but sometimes i feel like i can't enjoy 7 (which i started replaying) until i finish the collection (or at least the main branch)

I don't really hate newer games in the series as much as I'm fed up with JRPG genre in general as of late. While it did offer a lot of fun and a few truly epic games (FF VI, IX, XII) Final Fantasy as a franchise has been mostly hit and miss to me, I do however plan to beat every game in the main series (aside MMOs I have only XIII to check off my list), although I don't feel it's necessary to go through every game to call yourself/be a true fan, no need to force yourself to go through games you don't enjoy in the first place.

Thats a good point, put simply I play particular video games because they give me so so much pleasure and happiness. So if Im falling asleep with the controller in my hands then thats a telltale sign this game is not doing it for me. Which is exactly what XIII made me do even 10 minutes into it. I found staring at the wall whenever Snow was getting punched out more stimulating. XIII-2? You couldn't get me to play that even if you payed me. Now this Lightning saga business..I can facepalm but my level of frustration with SE my palm would go through my head. Being a 'true FF fan' is just fanboyism I suppose but the FF series was consistently AWESOME at a point in time FFVII-FFX (FFVI exception) so I wouldn't blame ya if you feel the need to compare who the best protagonist is, the best story and the strongest villain blah blah blah...

Who feels that way? >_> Final Fantasy is hardly a special RPG franchise, yeah, it has it's high points, but it's not that great, especially when such a large amount of the games are utter shit.

I have to disagree. The newer ones and 8 are the pieces of crap. I feel its a special franchise that has been tarnished in recent years.
