Simple, but, I found that these games are actually easier solo in many cases.
FF8, the game is harshly easier without having to split GF's.
FF12, The character levels faster than others when solo'd, and I would basically just grind till i am high, about 40's at the zertinan caverns.
FF5, same as 12, really easy in a sense.

So you have played only focusing on leveling one character? Spending all money in upgrades on one character? Attaching GF's and weapons to just one character? and then you let the others die if they die?

I was at Lv 63 at the battle of the gardens.
You kill off the other characters immediately during battle so they can't take place in battle.
I even killed Ultima without Hero's and when I remember how to find Omega, Imma take him on Solo as well.
It adds a whole new freshness to games when you solo them. FF12 was fun solo, but I don't think FF13 will work at all solo lol

It's just funny, because you pose the question as though everybody has done this,,,,, and what's funnier is that the question even assumes that we've done this for every game. I don't think I'd try this for more than one section of any game, so to ask people which entire game is better for doing this is just really bizarre, don't you think? I mean do you expect that anybody has done this at all, and how many do you think have done it for enough games to anwer which one is harder? Like, "oh yeah, we've all solo'd each game man. It's the thing to do!"

Well Locke a solo run is a common type of play-through of Final Fantasy XII. As is the NLBLLG (No License Board Low Level Game). There a quite a few ways to play Final Fantasy XII.
I haven't seen/read/heard much of solo runs in other Final Fantasy games. But the hardest I would say would be Final Fantasy XIII. That is if a person can solo run that game with putting only one character in the party. Actually I think that could never be done because some bosses, like Barthandelus, would inflict Doom on the character because 1 character would take too long ensuing Doom.
If not, Final Fantasy XIII, then I would choose from: Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, & Final Fantasy IX. IV & IX have set classes so you can't have 1 character that has great physical strength/defense & attack/healing magic. In Final Fantasy III a character can only have 1 class equipped and it isn't like Final Fantasy V where there is a secondary skill slot.

Well, when you "master, or 100% a game", it losses reason to play it again, especially if you know it's gameplay through in out. So, to revamp the challenge and breath the game new life, you limit the abilities.
Same for other genre games. Indy 500 Endurance race with an gillet vertigo or Furai 2008 Concept in Gran Turismo 5.
When a game goes dull, revamp it up.

I guess FFXIII would be pretty tough if solo'd, so that's the hardest one in my opinion. You need a party with well thought out Paradigms to successfully take an enemy down. Some of the Esper battles were solo and/or two person jobs, and they could be pretty tough if you didn't know what you were doing. Also, there's lack of areas to grind in, and Gil is difficult to come by so you can't buy the items you might need.
As for soloing itself... it'd make the game uninteresting for me. I like developing my party, and sharing out magic isn't that much of a big deal - if I know enemies in the next area are weak to ice, then I equip everyone with ice weapons or magic. Summons are different - I give the best ones to my favourite characters/my party, and share out the others however to level up.
If I've 100%'ed a game already, I especially wouldn't have the energy to play again, especially solo. And 100%'ing something is debatable... some people are only happy with their 100% if they finish an FF game with not only all hidden items, characters, bosses and magic discovered and mastered; their inventory has to be stocked with ninety-nine units of every possibly ninety-nine accumulated item.

I will have to disagree. You have no limit on advancing levels, and gaining items are fairly easy. Each boss has a specific outing for, unless a few like the numerous Seymore battles.

Final Fantasy XIII would easily be the hardest to solo run, come into a solo fight against Breshan Bass in Lake Bresha = dead in a matter of seconds.
Not to mention the boss fights where some attacks leave you with minimal HP, and the instant Death capabilities of some enemies, this would definitely be the hardest solo run.
Alright Angel, I got ya,,,, which do I "think" would be hardest, and I'll say 10, because the character classes are very diverse. You really need mages, and you really need warriors, and there aren't many that apply to both until late in the game, so that would make it challenging to pick a characters.
STILL, I would say this to you. Once you've 100%'d the game, not only is it time to hang yourself on principle, but to actually decide that you're so bored that you need to replay it again via solo because you can't find anything else to do requires self inflicted torture beyond any imagination I'd care to explore. FIND ANOTHER GAME BRO! ;-)

I've gone through level 1. challenge, not entirely though, it was a blast nevertheless, gives you a new perspective.
Out of all characters Quina is essential, you come to realize her true potential, and start to appreciate the overall usefulness of Blue Magic, if for some strange reason you haven't already.
Using every trick possible is helpful as well, though you basically rely on various equipment, and abilities, depending on situation really. Stealing equipment, and items is also useful, highly recommended in fact, by doing so you save Gil which can be spent more wisely. Little bit of luck, patience, and you have yourself a lvl 1. playthrough.

Now doing a low level run is interesting. And challenging! I totally agree.
Basically for me that would mean never grinding at all, but not avoiding fights altogether either. Just rushing to the next area, and keeping any level up opportunities to a minimum. In fact, I might argue that this is how the game is supposed to be played and that spending endless hours on getting 100% by doing every single nit picky monotonous ass crap the game has to offer as some of you mega geeks like to do is actually not really what's intended. Definately I'm all for low level runs. Beat the game at level 30 or something. Sure!!! Beat the game in 40 hours or some low number like that rather than spending 100. YEP,,,, actually that's what I did when I first started. I think I'll go back to that method! :-)
