They are still Turn-Based... just not in the conventional method. Also I find XII's style of combat to be a lot more exciting/enjoyable than some of the previous installments. It's all up to your personal preferences I guess.
Okay..I've recently played ff12 and 13 and the game play was a huge disappointment to me..are all of the next generation ff going to be like this?

I TOTALLY AGREE!! I did love XII but only because of the world, characters and storyline. But the gameplay...GOD NO. esp how the 'quickenings' (fk that I just called em Limit breaks) were delivered (GAAAAAYY!!!! in the lame sense). To answer your question..GOD HELP US (well me&u).
I still hold out lotsa hope for FFVERSUSXIII tho only cause I heard Nomura is heading the project
XII and XII are still turn based orientated. I do like the Paradigm Shifts in XIII and XIII-2 as it gives you the option to choose a suitable attacking or defensive party.
Vanille: "Wishes can come true, but not if you just wait for miracles. Miracles are things we make for ourselves, here and now"
Lightning: "It's not a question of can or can't. There are some things in life you just do"
Cloud of Darkness: "We are the Cloud of Darkness...None shall stand before the flood of darkness. With it, we will bring the Void to this world, and your world of light as well..."
Luneth: "We won't let you! Not if we have anything to say about it!"
Cloud: "And if you don't tell us...I'll chop them off"
Aerith: "...I'll rip them off"
Tifa: "I'll smash them"
Well maybe I'm just old school in the way I like my final fantasy set up ...would really love if square Enix would make a "next generation" game the way. All the old ones were. That's just me though...
Only FF game to get rid of that is Tactics and other spin offs. Every other FF game uses Turn Based. Crisis Core uses a different type of turn based. Versus XIII is Kingdom Hearts so thats not turn based. The rest are turn based. It's traditional.

Turnbased battle systems are the best but I liked the KH battle system alot too (ha my favourite thing bout the entire game) so I dont mind THAT much.
I don't see how they were turn based because you constantly had to keep up and wait foe your bar to fill up to attack while the enemy can keep attacking you I just didn't find it traditional
FFI, FFII and FFIII don't have an ATB Bar, it's all based on Speed. ATB bar was invented, it's speed is based off of your speed. It's all the same.

XII & XIII just reversed the order of how the ATB worked. Prior to those games the player would wait for the bar to fill then select a command. In XII & XIII a command would be selected then the bar would fill up to execute. XIII's bar would start filling up after the execution of the previous commands, but the character would do nothing till commands were selected. So perhaps, XIII is a fusion of XII and the prior systems.
Turn based has not gone anywhere, just your brain perhaps.
You forgot about FFX Loaf.
Main series FFs Beaten - FF: 4x, FFII: 3x, FFIII: 3x, FFIV: 3x, FFV: 3x, FFVI: 4x, FFVII: 5x, FFVIII: 5x, FFIX: 3x, FFX: 4x, FFXII: 3x, FFXIII: 2x, FFXV: 2x
I hope it's not gone, I really liked that system. I can see the merits of a FF7-style ATB too, but maybe the best thing is to go the FF9 route: let the player choose between pure turn-based and active combat. ^^
