During a semi-recent interview with Kitase in regards to a question about a possible ff7 remake (yet again) - March 14 - 2014
Talking to interviewers in preparation for the release of Rise of Mana, Kitase was bombarded with questions unrelated to the game. These questions mostly revolved around a possible remake of Final Fantasy VII.
“Look, I would love for Square to work on a remake of Final Fantasy VII, but that is no longer an option,” reminisced Kitase, “To be honest, I can not picture an outcome where a remake of Final Fantasy VII will be better than the original as long as Square Enix is behind it. Have you played Lightning Returns? Even I thought that game would not receive good reviews and I produced it.”
Reporters were shocked that Kitase would be so blasé about disparaging the company that he worked for. Others were not so surprised.
“I pretty much have immunity,” remarked Kitase, “They can not fire the man who directed Final Fantasy VII. That is like firing Miyamoto from Nintendo. The last thing Square Enix needs is headlines about firing the guy who helped direct Chrono Trigger. People still remember that as a good game. Will people remember Rise of Mana as a good game? The answer is no in case you were wondering.”
He then elaborated on his thoughts about a potential Final Fantasy VII remake and who he would want to work on this treasured title.
“Anybody but Square Enix would be fine,” said Kitase, “Even bad developers would be acceptable because they would have respect for the franchise and rise to the occasion. Look around you. I am supposed to be promoting Rise of Mana right now. This is a free-to-play game on smartphone platforms that is supposed to be another landmark title in a franchise that is now even further ruined. However, I can not leave this company. Ito-san still needs a friend.”
What the hell? Is this legit? Source from RPGAMER.com
How could he speak so rash about the company he works for?
This reeks of parody.

I wouldn't say it is question of it being reputable. I check out RPGamer frequently as well. They can still write a joke article. It really doesn't sound like something that would be published and if it was real a lot more outlets would have picked it up. If a dev is going to put down their own companies products, especially being Square Enix, everyone would be talking about it. So I would doubt the article as well. It would multiple other sources for me to feel safe in saying something like this happened.

I just dont understand, whats the point of posting something fake? It doesn't make sense. It just makes me want to avoid that site now when it comes to anything whatsever realted to any news or updates.
Well if they were just doing it as a joke, then they might be trying to get hits or troll people. If they wrote it as a parody then they are trying to be like the Onion, which just is satire/parody depending on their mood. But it is all just guesses. I don't know what they are thinking.

There is a reason I don't go around the internet looking for information on video games unless it's already been officially announced. Honestly it's what you get when you do it.

Yeah. Something doesn't smell right. I don't see it in the RPGamer.com archives on 3.14.2014, so it was either removed or fabricated---or I am absolutely terrible at finding things.
As much as I would like for this to be true---i.e. someone at Square-Enix bashing recent projects and admitting that the company, given its current direction, lacks the vision to tackle a project as massive and delicate as a Final Fantasy VII HD remake---there's simply no way a big-wig at a company as large as Square-Enix would make these kind of comments in any official, on-the-record capacity. Simply no way. They would quickly be retracted and some carefully-prepared statement would be faxed/e-mailed around or read by some mouthpiece at a press conference.
Plus I don't believe anyone would be arrogant enough to assume they're immune from discipline. People are ousted or demoted all the time in business, especially if decisions cost that business money. No one is above the almighty dollar/yen/gil*/currency.

Pi day is a FANTASTIC day to spread irrational news or give irrational answers, however! Kudos to all parties if this is indeed legit!
*It's GP, damnit.
Hero façade. Villain at heart.
I thought parody was meant to be funny and clever?
Parody can be satire which could have been their intentions.
Satire for how companies have people like this where they kind of just let do what they want sometimes I feel.

Yeeeaaaaah, I tried to find it once reading this with no success. Something like that happening does not happen in Japanese culture. Very formal. People are very respectful of those higher than them. But that fake Kitase is right - no one will remember Rise of Mana.
RIP Sakaguchi.

I bet no one really remembers Xenogears either even though that was a pretty high rated Square title, or the fact it was the original concept for FFVII. nope nope nope.

Well I do remember xenogears. Quite fondly. Tetsuya takahashi is on my favorite directors.
Xenogears wouldn't have worked as a FF. The style of the whole game, the concepts, & story that the devs were trying to convey is too different from FF.

Yeah, I'd imagine that many of the people that played Xenogears still remember it well. I'll certainly never forget it. I still believe it is one of the few released games that really deserves a remake since the second disc was incomplete.

There are some, very knowledgable of xenogears, who argue that the second disc was intentional. I've read their theories on the second disc over at gamefaqs.
Some of the discussions about that game get crazy. And every so often when I check in, I learn something new.
