I've got a 52 inch HD TV but surprisingly I actually thought FF7 looked Ok on it, maybe i'm just more tolerant of the graphics of previous generations. Although I did play Resident Evil 2 on it and looked horrible.
In a way, my new tv has ruined my life. Playing 13 was a dream, but trying to play 7, 8 and 9 is a nightmare! Now the graphics actually do bother me, as they are stretched and blown out in all their blocky, non-HD glory. I miss my old tv

Buy a cheap 2nd hand TV just for those games but II am looking for a bigger telly would you like to swap?lol
I tend to prefer them on PSP and other portable devices more (there are some cool tutorials on building your own PSX handheld out of a casing of some kind, a screen, the PSX internals and a few other bits and pieces depending on how complex the design is). Anything HD display over 25" makes older games seem horrible and only a portable system or an old TV can help.

I have a 46 inch plasma and played FFVII on it already and thought it looked okay. But then I went to play FFIV on it and THAT...that was horrible. Same with FFVI. I haven't tried any other FF game on it yet, but I assume all 2D ones will look horrible. Good thing I have a PSP now, so I can still play those classics on this. I think the PS1 era games (FF7-9) still look alright on it, though.
If you are by chance playing those PS1 titles via the PS3, there is a "Smoothing" option that will really eliminate some of the rough edges and make the title look better on an HDTV.

There has been a video posted about the smoothing option LocoColt mentioned. Click here >_> 3rd video you'll see | PS3 FF7 and 8 Downloads.

i have a portable tv i use for the older titles, old games just look appalling on bigger tellys ):
I play all the PS1 titles using an emulator on my laptop instead of my old hardcopies and using some of the options in the emulator and an hdmi cable to my 32" HD tv and using a logitech usb controller it's actually much better looking and just as fun with the usb contoller.
That smoothing option really does help alot...I've been playing alot of older games on my mom's 62" lcd with no probs!
Was about to suggest this. If graphics are a priority, it's really the best option.I play all the PS1 titles using an emulator on my laptop instead of my old hardcopies and using some of the options in the emulator and an hdmi cable to my 32" HD tv and using a logitech usb controller it's actually much better looking and just as fun with the usb contoller.

Yes I'm playing FFVIII on my 32" Samsung and i really miss anti aliasing.
I couldnt care less about the graphics of them on my 42" hdtv, i just put smoothing on and adjust my screen in my tv options so it slims it down so they dont look stretched. Looks good enough for me
