    The Loyal Final Fantasy Fans

There seems to be only a small amount of Final Fantasy fans left out there. I understand that they don't like where the series is headed but I've witnessed some "fans" say they never liked the series to start with they are hypocrites and lots of them. I mean I don't like where the series is headed but I remain a loyal fan. My point is I don't think there are many loyal fans out there anymore

I would no longer consider myself a Final Fantasy fan, as I was unable to get into Final Fantasy 12 too much (though I wouldn't mind trying it again now that I have hooked my PS2 up to my old TV) and as for Finakl Fantasy 13... >_< (I haven't played the online ones due to my hatred of MMORPGs - thank you World of Warcraft!) I tried to give it a go, but I just couldn't get into it; it was not engaging at all.

That's not to say I never liked the other games. The ones I've played (IIIj through to X-2) I have enjoyed, even the ones that are widely decried, i.e. 8 and 10-2. I am even giving 8 another playthrough, trying, possibly in vain, to get the Lionheart on Disc 1.

But nah, these days I'd rather play the Assassin's Creed series.

    The Loyal Final Fantasy Fans

I'm a fan if I'm honest I can still say this only two I dont like up of the main series is 13 and I don't mint 8 but wouldn't say I really like it!

I havnt played any of the pc based online ones (11 and such) but the rest I love and enjoy a lot!!!! I think the only ones I ain't completed is 8, 13 (because I couldn't bare them any longer) and 2 not sure why I havnt finished two! It's strange

Just because you like a game in a series doesn't mean you have to be a fanboy. There are too many flaws for me to be a "fan" of the series. The series started failing when square merged with enix and it's just getting worse. It's not like any game can keep cranking out similar games without getting meh. Just like what you like and don't label yourself for it, and ESPECIALLY don't throw your money at a company because they made some of your favorite games in the past.

Yeah lacquer head's right, you don't have to become a rabid fan-boy just because you like a particular game or two in a series.

I consider myself a fan of Final Fantasy. I don't particularly like the look of XIII but everything prior to that I've enjoyed playing. If you don't like the way the series is progressing, just stick to the older titles, they can't fail you. That to me is loyalty to the series, if the future looks bleak, it won't affect how much I enjoy I - XII.

I was a "fan" until XII. I put fan in quotes because depending how you define the term, maybe i actually wasn't. I didn't like the games because they said Final Fantasy on them. I liked them because they were good games. As soon as XII hit, I ceased to like the entire series. I didn't feel any sense of obligation to try and adapt to the new system, I just straight up didn't like it. The past 11 (counting X-2, not XI) being awesome didn't do anything to make me like XII. XIII I guess I like, but it's still not the same as the first 11. It irritates me that they even call these newer games Final Fantasies, when they have nothing in common with the first 11 entires of the series. If you want to make a new game with a new system, great. Do so. If you want to stop making the Final Fantasy games, great, they were fun while they lasted, and I'll keep playing them. Don't discontinue final fantasies, then release new games that aren't even remotely Final Fantasy-ey, and slap the Final Fantasy name on them to sell them to the rabid fans. Of course it's a marketing tactic, and I understand it, but it still irritates me.

I am a fan of the series, always looking to see what they come up with next. What new world(s) we get to explore or characters to meet. It would take a few bad games for me to start steering clear of the series. FF XIII was a step in that direction; FF XIII-2 a bit more, but each game stands alone, therefore I shall look upon it with a clear mind.

    Main series FFs Beaten - FF: 4x, FFII: 3x, FFIII: 3x, FFIV: 3x, FFV: 3x, FFVI: 4x, FFVII: 5x, FFVIII: 5x, FFIX: 3x, FFX: 4x, FFXII: 3x, FFXIII: 2x, FFXV: 2x

I felt the same way about the series following X, the titles prior to XII were fantastic... aside from 11 and crystal chronicles etc.
I would still consider myself a fan. I have plushies of chocobo and vivi. I also have posters of tifa and various characters in my room as well as massive buster sword that my friends got me for my birthday.

I am a fan. and every game is amazing in it's own ways. Don't have to be a fan of the series though, you can like one game or two.

If you want to experience the greatest Final Fantasy experience you want to play FFXI and FFXIV but they are MMOs and some people don't want to play those. But imo, FFXI is the greatest Final Fantasy.

You may be right. But could ffXI have been a single player game ever at any stage? I dont understand why they had to make it an MMO. I dont really care to pay monthly to play a game that I already pay for. I say its bad only for that factor, the story might be amazing. Its just MMO's make me feel like im eating from a trough shared by tens of thousands of other people.

Well, I've been a member of TFF for quite some time now and I did play every game in the main series (excluding XIII and MMO's) plus some spin offs so yea, I guess you could call me a fan of the series. XII is by far the best one in my opinion, not my all time favorite mind you, I feel it went in right direction long after series became kinda stale, predictable. One thing I'm not sure I understand is this entire speech "yup, I love their first ten games and still play them to death, although the last two kinda suck so I'm not really a fan anymore", it's like those two games undid everything good up to that point.

To be fair though, with FFXI you're also paying for the constant new content and updates that they pass through for free. The only charge for expansions, but between expansions there remains a fairly good stream of content that would be considering nickel and dime DLC for the current generation.

As for the series, I still love the games and will keep playing them. But I love RPGs in general and so it doesn't take a lot to please me.

After all these years, and seeing the series change A LOT, I am still a fan of FF. I have liked every FF game I have played (yes, that means XIII, all the spin offs, and the sequels including X-2, and especially Theatrhythm, which I just got and is AMAZING). The only one I didn't enjoy was Chocobo Tales, but does that seriously count...? I never played XI or XIV, so I cannot comment.

Just because you didn't like XII or XIII or whatever should give you a 'FFXIII sucks, the whole series sucks, I'm no longer a fan' mentality. Enjoy FF for the reasons you do/did. Just because you dislike one of the games, doesn't mean it taints the whole series.

But when the series begins declining in one's respective opinion, you cant help but feel like the series is somehow drifting away from its former glory. Its like a relationship, you start asking questions. "Is it just me?" The decline began for me when square decided they'd cast drainga on the wallets of its fans by creating a PayToPlay MMO. 12 had some great gameplay aspects, but failed where it counts, in the sense of having important characters and story. 13 tried to hard with the emotion etc, its sequel story was the most absurd of anything ive ever experienced. Im not high hopes for the company itself. They remake all final fantasy except the ones we want. They remake 1+2, 3, 4 add additional content to 5 and 6, remastering ffx. Its such a massive spit in the face to what we've been requesting all these years, for a remake of ff7 (im so sorry, but I had too). Instead, they remake everything but that and give us sequels to a game that hardly anyone gives a shit about. My loyalty is tied to the games and the respective people who made it possible. Whatever talent square had walked out the door with hironobu sakaguchi (the creator/saviour of company and series), nobuo uematsu (the reason we remember every song) and now what we're left with is fools creating spinoff's with the afterbirth of their successful fetus and a bunch of graphic designers getting off on lightnings character design to the point where they accidently made another sequel in their spare time whilst trying to write a lame storyline to some hentai erotica that they thought could work as an actual game that would make them enough money to continue their perverted obsessions.

Compared to other games nowadays, Final Fantasy isn't as engaging as it once was. I DID enjoy Final Fantasy XIII, but it certainly was no Final Fantasy VII. It had a disappointing lack of freedom and exploration. The story wasn't terrible, and it looked amazing but it was very linear, which is completely unlike any of the other Final Fantasy games.

I will, however, continue to buy and play any future Final Fantasy game that is compatible with the consoles I own. One game (or a few out of the large series that is Final Fantasy) won't ruin my appetite for more games, remakes or re-releases.

Final Fantasy X was also extremely linear, FFXIII just ended up with very straight hallways a lot of time, while FFX not so much. But both games were extremely linear and restrictive on where you could go, until the end of the game.

But the good thing about the FF series is their willingness to try new things. Things fail, but they have good ideas and they keep searching. That's not a bad quality to have for a franchise.

FFX got a sequel probably because of the amount of attention the game got commercially. I knew a lot of people who knew about FFX only because of commercials and other stuff but had no idea about any other FF title. Another is probably that FFX got a perfect 10 on some reviewing place whatever. FFX was a big project. Also remaking FFX into FFX HD is by far WAAAAAY cheaper then making FFVII into HD. FFVIII and FFIX and even that FFVI remake.

Yeah all of the PS2 HD remakes going around it is the popular thing to do. And Square already said that they weren't remaking the game from the ground up. It's more a port with hopefully some higher resolution textures rather than just up-rezing things. I doubt they'll remake the models to improve them. People will still buy it up.

But I remember seeing FFIX commercials and even seeing it advertised in the Sunday ads at Best Buy. At the time I had no clue about the game and thought it was silly there were 9 versions of the game. So there was definitely TV awareness even before FFX. Though I do think Square starting putting more money into their marketing around the PS2 era.

It seems a few of these posts may have been responses to me, so I should probably clarify what I meant. I like the first 11 games as much as I ever did, I simply ceased to be a fan of every game that had the final fantasy name. Up until XI I could honestly say I was, afterwards, I could only claim to be a fan of a certain fraction of them. It's not that I no longer like any final fantasies, I just no longer like ALL the final fantasies, a few bad ones have left me a fan of only a part of the series, not the whole thing like I used to be.

I consider myself to be a Final Fantasy fan. I've grown up with the series, have dabbled in and out with regards to playing the games, have a chocobo tattoo and just adore the whole idea of FF. XIII for me was different, yes a bit constricted, but the storyline was lovely, the graphics were amazing, the characters were good (especially Lightning), it does open up later on (Archlyte Steppe) and even 107 hours in I still have acheivements and Ci'eth stone missions to completed. XIII-2 was pretty good as well due to you being able to revisit areas previously seen in the main storyline.

The only installment that I never liked was VIII and to this day I have no interest whatever in playing it. I love III (DS version), like VII and am a bit partial to VI on the GBA.

At the end of the day we are all fans of Final Fantasy and we will never all agree on an ultimate FF game.
Vanille: "Wishes can come true, but not if you just wait for miracles. Miracles are things we make for ourselves, here and now"
Lightning: "It's not a question of can or can't. There are some things in life you just do"

Cloud of Darkness: "We are the Cloud of Darkness...None shall stand before the flood of darkness. With it, we will bring the Void to this world, and your world of light as well..."
Luneth: "We won't let you! Not if we have anything to say about it!"

Cloud: "And if you don't tell us...I'll chop them off"
    Aerith: "...I'll rip them off"
    Tifa: "I'll smash them"
