I don't get what you're getting at. Tifa reveals a lot, Rinoa wears shorts and no sleeves, and Aerith and Garnet don't reveal much at all.
They're all dressed very differently.
Is anyone here tired like I am of Square giving the lead female character in the latest Final Fantasys the same wardrobe. I understand that there are slight differences but Tifa had a white shirt, Aeris had a pink get up, Rinoa was in blue and Garnet was in yellow. I guess it makes for a boring character when they constantly come out looking the same.

Please read the poetry from two great friends of mine. May they find peace.

Well he means the main girl from the newer games, like X, X-2: Electric Boogaloo, XII and XIII.
I agree, but I'll even take it a step further. I think that the majority of characters are being mainstreamed and just being stereotyped, almost like they're cookie cutter characters. Tidus and Vaan are essentially the same. The dude with the trenchcoat and beanie from XIII looks like a combination of Seifer from VIII and KH, but with long hair.
I can understand trying to make the characters look modern or plausible, but why? It's a videogame based on another reality.

To be fair, some of the characters in older Final Fantasy games didn't have THAT much variation in thier designs either.
Examples:
Lenna and Krile from Final Fantasy V and Rosa from Final Fantasy IV - Pretty Blonde ladies with long capes, leotards, boots and sashes. While we're here, I think Terra (Final Fantasy VI) falls into that fashion type as well, though her in-game sprite was given Green hair, I have heard that was done so she could be more distinguishable from Celes.
It happens to the dudes too. Richard (FF II) and Kain (FF IV) have a very similar look, don't ya think?
I don't think it's bad to use similar elements, especially considering these are all characters in the same franchise. The Final Fantasy games tend to share a few similar themes and such, and that includes character designs.
Click at your own risk.:
I find Tifa (FFVII), Yuna (FFX-2), Ashe (FFXII) and Fang (FFXIII) has the same style in clothing.
Especially Fang and Yuna.
But I guess fang isn't counted since she's not the lead female character at all.

But yeah, I wish the females of the series had different outfits more or less. But oh well, what can you do but bear with it?
I disagree here. I don't think they look that much alike. Sure you could say the outfits are the same, but they're not entirely. Here's a quick summary
Yuna FFX: White top, long blue floral skirt.
Yuna FFX-2: Short, white top, denim shorts, knee-high boots
Ashe FFXII: White top, red skirt, long boots with gold armour around the knees, gold gauntlets
Lightning FFXIII: White top, red cape, brown skirt, knee high boots, blue gloves
While the white top is a common theme, the rest are very different. However, white is a very, very common colour, especially on clothes. But all of their tops are different styles. White is also associated with the good guys/gals, which all of them are, so it's only natural that white is on their clothes anyway.
These are just my observations.
I'm going to agree with Zantetsuken's observations. I believe to say that Yuna from FFX & FFX-2, Ashe, & Lightning look similar is stretching the truth. Ashe's face is based off a french person's while Yuna has a japanese(okinawan) face, & Lightning is a "female Cloud" so that would make her what, European - not french.
Yuna's first outfit is a kimono; I can see some similarity between Yuna's X-2 outfit and Lightning's but I think there are enough differences. Ashe's outfit does not look like Yuna's or Lightnings outfits.
There are only so many outfits/look a character can have before they get too eccentric and zany. Yes all three have a mainly white top, some color variation may have done good to better distinguish them. At the same time designers shouldn't aim for copying looks. I find that those three girls overall designs are unique enough and their personalities vary, Ashe and Lightning being the closest personality-wise.
Dodie brought up a good point as well: that older female & some male, FF characters look similar. It could be explained that the limiting technology in the characters' respective console could not offer variations, but Amano's designs do show similarity as well.
Main series FFs Beaten - FF: 4x, FFII: 3x, FFIII: 3x, FFIV: 3x, FFV: 3x, FFVI: 4x, FFVII: 5x, FFVIII: 5x, FFIX: 3x, FFX: 4x, FFXII: 3x, FFXIII: 2x, FFXV: 2x
I agree on everything Zargabaath said.
They really don't look similar, clothing or faces, at all. And I also agree that the younger systems didn't have the technical properties to differentiate characters as well.
