Been having some debates with friends lately on how we think some names in FF (mainly II/IV and IX) are pronounced. Just wondering what your guys' takes on them were.
Such as...
-Asura - I say ah-sur-uh
-Baigan - bi-gahn
-Cecil - I randomly switch between cee-cihl and ceh-cihl, just depending on how I read it.
-Rydia - rhi-dee-uh
-Amarant - ah-mahr-aunt
-Vivi - I say vee-vee, but a friend constantly argues that it's vih-vee
-Freya - fray-uh
-Conde Petie - I use French pronunciation, don't know how to spell it out, though.
-Eiko - i-koh
-Quina - kee-nuh
Feel free to add more, these are just the ones that keep coming up between my friends and I.
"I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death. What's that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch and you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities. You become a little baby, you go back into the womb, spend your last nine months floating... and you finish off as an orgasm."

-Asura - a-shur-a
-Baigan - "bye"-gen
-Cecil - se-sil
-Rydia - ri-dee-u
-Amarant - au-ma-rant
-Vivi - vee-vee
-Freya - frey-a
-Conde Petie - con-de-pe-tee
-Eiko - I-ko
-Quina - quee-na
-Quistis - "quiz"-tiz (stupid name, by the way)
-Tidus - tee-dus (based off of habit from Dissidia, I prefer "tie"-dus)
-Ifrit - ee-freet
Fantasies completed:
I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XII
Asura - AH-shu-rah (as in Ashura)
Baigan - BUY-gahn
Cecil - SEH-sill. Mostly because that's they way I've usually heard it, whether it's the actual "Cecil" or the more common "Cecilia".
Rydia - RHI-diah. Because it could sound like "Lydia"
Amarant - ah-mah-RAN. Silent T.
Vivi - VEE-vee. Again, the closest thing would be "Vivian".
Freya - FRAY-ah. Though, for all you know, you could call her "Freyja" as the Nords would do.
Conde Petie - COND pe-TEE. Like the French pronunciation.
Eiko - EI-koh. It's a Japanese name, and Spanish pronunciation is remarkably close to Japanese, hence it feels most natural.
Quina - KEE-nah. Another bring-out from Spanish; "qui" and "ki" are both pronounced as you'd pronounce ki. It's somehow different from Italian in that regard.
Quistis - KISS-tiss. Similar to Latin pronunciation of "qui"
Tidus - Ambivalent. It can be TEE-dus or TIE-dus, don't really care.
Lemme see which others...
Sabin - sah-BEEN. It makes a bit more sense when you pronounce his full English name, "sah-BEEN re-NEH"
Figaro - usually pronounce it fi-GAH-roh, even though the proper version should be "FEE-gah-roh" (as the character from "The Barber of Seville")
