FF7- PS1 and PS2 Edition Difference?? Please Help

    Hi Guys.
This is my first post, so please be easy on me if the following question sounds silly. Im waiting to get FF8 on the PS3 but thought i should play part 7 first as its had many good reviews.

But which one should i play? the one on the PS1 or PS2????
Is there a difference. I cant seem to find FF7 on PS2 anywhere.

    Please clarify...

    Many Thanks
    Adam

You cannot find Final Fantasy VII on PS2 because it was not a PS2 game. It was originally released for the original PS1. SE did port it to the PS3 store fairly recently. Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus on the PS2 is not the same, it is a sequel/spin-off of the original game and is not an RPG. I would not recommend starting with it as you won't understand anything without playing the original game.

Also, forgive me if I'm wrong here but judging by your post it would seem that you're compelled to play them sequentially because of potential story links. Just know that 7 and 8 are completely different games story wise so you're not going to miss out on anything by playing 8 before 7.

Personally I think 8 is the better game.

You can play the games in any order that you want. They have common elements but the world, characters and story of each individual game are different. The exception being of course, the fairly recent practice of making sequel/spin-off games. Every game in the series is worth playing, in my opinion. Sure, chances are you may not like at least one of them but it's the kind of series where everyone can find at least one game they like.

The older games and IX have a much more classic medieval setting to them. The newer games are more futuristic, more science fantasy, a blend of science fiction and fantasy elements.

Here's a rundown of the quality of the previous games in the series pre number 7

Final Fantasy 1 : Despite a lack of defined characters 1 is a classic and definitely worth a play if youre not afraid of a challenge.

Final Fantasy 2 : nowhere near as good as 1 but Decent in terms of classic rpgs

Final Fantasy 3 : Personally my least favourite, was a step back as far as the series goes, but if you really want to play the older games you really should give it at least a go.

Final Fantasy 4 : has an amazing Story and many features that later FF titles retained, is my personal favourite. of the classic pre 3d games.

Final Fantsy 5 : Was a decent game despite the job system, but if you like that kind of thing then youll love this game.

Final Fantasy 6 : A fantastic game and the darkest of the earlier titles with a compelling story and the seeds of the GF junctioing system utilised in 8.

Hope that helps in some way
