Favorite OST?

Thanks to good ol' Uematsu FF seems to be enjoyed HIGHLY for it's music. What's your favorite sountrack or just plain song?

It's hard for me to pick between VIII and X....so we'll just tie them :B
I'm a fan of them all, but I gotta say the theme for Balamb Garden is amazing.

My fav soundtrack has got to be from FF crisis core. I feel the battle themes and such really suit the main character Zack. The theme of crisis core "Truth behind the project" was truly amazing. The one played during the FMV scene of Genesis, Angeal and Sephiroth three-way duel.

Sound tracks are so hard to judge, honestly because if it's really good and doing it's job, then it should probably just feel natural and not really stand out. Seriously.

But, I do notice the quite moments, and like you mentioned the Balamb Garden them just feels inviting. I leave it on to go make snacks when I play VIII.

A lot of 7's theme were really jarring so I'm not sure I'd go there, but X's were quite soothing and fitting for the most part. I don't really know if I can pick out anything else off hand.

Damn this is a hard thread... I have every OST on my PC and tbh I listen to it daily and put up with the 'weirdo' 'geek' comments because I'm not listening to some r n b shit. But wow, tbh as far as listening goes I'd have to pick X, I just think the whole OST gave you that 'spira' feel. It expresses the peace before the storm perfectly.

And my favourite Nobuo piece has the be the victory fanfare (original). I just smile everytime I hear it. Usually cause I've kicked arse but hey

My favorite song overall is "1000 Words" from X-2. It is a song that resonates in my heart. As far as overall soundtrack, I would have to choose XIII, especially the music playing when Sazh and Vanille are in the forest where you can change the weather. I really like the songs from the whole game.

I loved the song "You Are Not Alone" from Final Fantasy IX. It was playing when Zidane was telling everyone to leave him alone on Terra, great sound to that track and is still a favorite.

I didn't find this was the case at all, true it did contain very dissonant sounding pieces when appropriate; eg. when in contact with evil characters in the game, and a few location themes were suitably matched with darkly under-toned music, but for the most part in my opinion FFVII contained some of the most beautiful delicate pieces from the whole series. Tifa/Aeris' themes were beyond gorgeous,
and the main theme is one of the most triumphant/epic main themes Ive encountered.
Of course I can see what you mean with jarring music in VII, Compared to X the overall colour of VII is darker.

I'd say VIII is the best, any day. VIII has some really memorable themes, like the Balamb Garden theme, Force Your Way, Eyes on Me etc. It's a beautifully written soundtrack.

2nd is a tie for me between X-2 and IX. I liked X-2's because it was a twist on the traditional FF soundtrack, and it was pulled off really well. Even though it wasn't done by Uematsu, it's still amazing. IX's was really very memorable, and went back to a more traditional style for the soundtrack after the futuristic sound of VII and VIII. Also, the Necron theme is my favourite FF theme of all time, so, you know.

Final Fantasy IX takes this one, by far the best work of Nobuo Uematsu. I don't see a point in listing the entire soundtrack so I'll mention few pieces only, such as "The Place I'll Return to Someday", "Battle Theme" (best version yet), "Hunters Chance", "Rose of May", "Hilda Garde", "Kuja's Theme", "Ambush Attack"...

Soundtrack of Crisis Core would be close second, surprisingly good considering it's a mere spin off, "The Burdened", "The Price of Freedom", "Why", "An Ancient Hymn Sung by the Water", just to name few.

Still, my favorite song comes from another game in franchise, it's Final Fantasy's VIII Liberi Fatali.
