    Dilemma!

Since jioning this site i have suddenly got the urge to play FF again. I have X but since i've owned it for a long time i've overplayed it. My question is: Which FF should i get next? I have a Ps2 and a DS if you have any suggestions please do tell.
Reasons for are welcome too as i like to know enough about a game before i actually buy it.

    Re: Dilemma!

Your options are pretty limited with just the DS and PS2. The best options available are FF X-2, FF XII on the PS2 and FF III, FF IV on the DS.
FF X-2 is a pretty good companion piece to FF X. As a game its nowhere near as good but is worth a playthrough and it finishes off the story of Yuna and Tidus pretty well(depending on which ending you unlock). Most of the characters are poorly fleshed out. Also has a mission structure and active time battles. Brings back job classes as well. Worth getting for anything less than the equivalent of fifteen euros.
FF XII is a game which has received a lot of flak but when it boils down to it its one of the better games in the series. The story is absolutely epic, the voice acting is second to none, there is a huge world to explore with plenty of side missions, graphically the best game of the previous generation and the combat is fluid. It lacks that old FF magic though and Vaan has to be one of the worst protagonists in the whole series. Probably the best option.
FF IV is nothing short of a retro classic, the same applies to III. What they lack for in modern game mechanics they make up for with old school charm. The combat is perfectly balanced and the stories are not half bad. I would choose IV over III given the choice though.
If you have the money and patience to find FF VII, VIII and IX on the original PS1 that would be the best option. These are the holy trinity of the series in my opinion and as close to perfect as games can get. These games are perfectly balanced as well as brilliantly paced. The stories are all great. If I had to put them in order though I would put VII first, then VIII and then IX.

BLASPHEMY. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS OVERPLAYING FFX. It's a really good game.

X-2 is... interesting. I rather like what they did to combat, and the dressphere system is an interesting new take on the classic Job system. There's a fun, carefree atmosphere in the early game, and the way you think the plot is going is more a refreshing treasure hunting adventure than anything. Then it nose dives into the typical "WELP GOTTA SAVE THE WORLD AGAIN " RPG storyline. It's aggravating. It's probably worth a look, but don't expect to be blown away.

    Re: Dilemma!

With the PS2, you are able able to play all the PS1 FFs. That means all of them from I to IX (apart from III). Obviously VII, VIII and IX should always be up for consideration.

PS2 you have X-2 and XII. I do like X-2, and I would recommend getting it. It fits well with FFX, and gives a new experience in the series. XII is different, because it doesn't feel like the older FF games. It has scrapped the classic battle system, and has gone with a slightly more action orientated system. That being said, XII is one of my favourites, and I would definitely recommend it.

On DS, you have III, which of course you can't get on PS1/2. I love the DS version because of the graphics. Obviously with DS you know it isn't going to be very cinematic, but the visuals are great. Also on DS you have IV, which is quite similar to III in terms of visuals. I would still say that the original/PS1 port is superior, but they can be hard to find.

you can get I,II,V,VI,VII,VIII,IX,X-2, and XII go to ebay or amazon and you can get all the ps1 versions for cheap and if you were to get a ps3 you could get VII,VIII, and IX on psn for ten bucks, my favorite is VIII and X and i dont see how you could have overplayed X its amazing but i would go for VIII or maybe X-2 if you havent beatin it yet

My favorite FF games are IV, VII, VIII, and IX, so I would say go for those. You can really get all of them if you want, though. I was looking on amazon, and you can pretty much get all the FF games except for vii for about $10 a piece. I would say for the SNES and PS1 era there isn't really a bad Final Fantasy game. Honestly, I would say $10 is a good investment for at least 30-40 hours of enjoyment.

    Re: Dilemma!

I've seen FF's 4 and 12 in store but i've always been put off by bad feedback (12) and i wasnt sure how 4 would look on the ds. but iv figured: you cant call your self a true fan of a series if you havnt tried these things for yourself. Also 12 cant ruin the FF-nes of the older ones if i havnt played them XP. And like you've all said ebay would have all of the older games anyway.

And when i say i've 'overplayed' X i mean i've seen/done the whole pre-Gagazet part of the game so many times due to er 'mishaps' with my younger brothers saving over my file :/. Give me about six months and i'll be back at it.
