    Blue Magic

I totally realized I don't like blue magic :s I always go out of my way to get all the techs and I never use it or its very minimal. Like I'll only use it if I'm on the brink of death and I have no options left but to hope I have some blue magic spell that will save me.

Not only do I never use it I find the process of collecting all the spells to be tedious and not worth it..

Khimari's skills were least annoying to get. All you had to do was lancet every monster you encounter. Quina's was a pain because you had to weaken everything and if you had to go back and get something you missed, you had to try and not kill it lol. I guess in VIII Quistis's limit count for the blue magic but it wasn't bad since all you really had to do was refine them.

I've taught every job in V but blue mage so far, so I'm not sure how useful it is yet. I've gotten back to playing VI and I'm not fond of gau's techs they're horrid to get -_-; unless I'm doing it wrong. I can't say the techs themselves are bad yet because I haven't used him enough.

So he can only gets monster skills in that one area? I read somewhere that all the monsters you fight in the game are accessible there but that doesn't make sense, why can't I just get them along the way? I think I'm missing something.
Also, idk if this is right but Gau only get's the techs from the first battle you have him leap and the battle he returns in?

Anyway do you use blue magic often? And can someone explain Gau for me? Hahaha

I was thinking that since I'm artificially creating it, I'll create it with rocket fuel instead of blood, and thus it will be able to fly, using the dolphin's dorsal fins as wings. And from the air, it will look down upon us all and protect us against sharks, and search for bananas.

    Re: Blue Magic

Blue Mages are quite often the most useful characters in the entire game, it's due to their variety of magic that makes them good in almost every aspect, be it for defensive, offensive, or just support purposes. Sure, obtaining magic can be rather tedious, but in the end it's quite worth it. I myself love Blue Mages the most, I also think they're quite underrated, they fall victim to their bad design and non important role through the game.

Khimari has to be the worst Blue Mage I've ever seen, keep in mind I still haven't seen Gau's full potential, I actually didn't bother to train that guy. From what I've read and my own experience Blue Mage has to be one of the best classes in Final Fantasy V, not to mention that you can make him even more better by combining multiple classes. As for Quina and Quistis, both the most useful characters in the respective games. Necron's a joke with Quina in your party, my key character in fight against Ozma and an essential factor in lvl 1 playthrough challenge. Quistis made Omega Weapon and Ultimecia look like a regular opponents , I even dare to say that her Blue Magic limit brake is the best limit break in the entire game, The End and Leonhart including. So yea, I do use Blue Magic, Blue Mages are usually key characters in my party, and sorry I couldn't help you with Gau, I really didn't bother to train that character.

    Re: Blue Magic

I have to agree with Xanatos because Blue Magic users are some of the best and strongest party members in my groups. Kimahri was in fact one of the worst Blue Mages but the other two that I've played with, those two being Quistis and Quina, funny that they both have names starting with a Q, are fantastic.

If I didn't have Quina in the game with his/her Limit Glove during my level one playthrough all would have been lost. Plus s/he is also capable of things like Lv. 5 Death which makes taking down the Grand Dragons all too easy and Auto-Life that was essential in getting through the three required fights in Pandemonium on Terra. Quistis was also one of my favorite characters in FFVIII, I can't remember the exact limit move but one of her limits banishes all the enemies to some other dimension and it's an automatic win and easy EXP. She also was a great help with Ultima Weapon, Omega Weapon, and Ultimecia. Love a good Blue Mage.

    Re: Blue Magic

Gau: Yes, the only place he can learn things is on the Veldt, from "Leap"-ing enemies. And the only enemies that show up on the Veldt are those that you've already fought. When you choose to actually use his Rages, he will control himself, randomly selecting abilities from those used by that specific enemy. He will also take on some traits of the specific enemy -- he might float, have auto-Shell or auto-Safe, or be more or less resistant to certain elements, depending on what enemy he is imitating. Any spells casted while imitating an enemy are free of MP use, as well. While some are very useful, most are simple and redundant. I prettymuch use two, and only two: Pteradon and Stray Cat. At the big fight in Narshe, Pteradon's "Fireball" is great because it's one more ability that attacks every enemy instead of simply one -- and, as mentioned before, it does not use MP (obviously, since Gau doesn't have any yet). And "Stray Cat" is, in my opinion, the best Rage by far -- it consists of only a basic attack and a special attack called "Catscratch", but Catscratch does massive damage in comparison to every other party member. Of course, you can also go to the Veldt after going up the Fanatics' Tower and try to find the White Dragon, which does nothing but attack and cast a lot of "Pearl" variants.

Anyway. On to blue magic. While I don't use it much, I do see the value in it. The issue, as has been mentioned, is learning the abilities. I think FFVII did the best with this in their Materia setup -- it didn't have to be one person in your party at all times to learn Blue Magic, it could be anybody with that Materia equipped. One thing that deterred me from VI's Blue Magic was that the only real Blue Mage was Strago, and he sucked. So I didn't want him in my party. ... So he never got better. Whoops.

    Re: Blue Magic

Gau drives me insane, I have gone out of my way to learn some of his stuff, but I get bored of it fast, I don't think he's all that great to use, so that doesn't help. I hate collecting his stuff

Khimari is pretty easy to get all his blue magic and I DO do it, though, his only really useful ones are Mighty Guard and that one that you lancet off Omega, and even that aint all that fantastic - I rarely if ever use him in battle anyway, it's completion sake I collect all his shit

Quina is probably my favourite Blue Mage, and has decent blue magic that I use frequently as well, I enjoy collecting his/her stuff, though, the eat ability doesn't half peck head. Monster not weak enough, then you accidentally kill it /rage

I always have someone with an enemy skill equipped in VII and make a point of collecting all those an' all

Quistis is another easy one to collect for - micro missiles make tonberry kiling in Centra all the more bearable as well

Yeah, I like collecting and using Blue Magic

I'm not giving FFV a mention, I bloody well hate that game and all its stinking mage job classes ]:<

    Re: Blue Magic

I gave you a Gau Guide Mel and I explained it lol.

Blue Magic is my favorite type of Magic to use in any Final Fantasy, next to Time Magic (reffering to FFT Time Mage). For the most part you just have to figure out what Blue Spell does what for you. I haven't tried FFV Blue Mage that long into the game, I usually just got Blood Suck at the beginning of the game from the bats in the first cave and used that till I got the Air Ship. Most skills I use from a Blue Mage would be Mighty Guard and White Wind, if I am using White Wind as my only healing then I usually take my buffest characters. Like in FFIX I'll have Quina, Zidane, Amarant and Steiner/Freya.

Loaf I'm on my phone I can't strain my eyes reading through a huge guide... haha

@ lily, omg V jobs are amazing you crazy haha.

Yeah Khimari's blue magic I never used lol but it was easiest to get ha. I used Quina's blue magic maybe during one session I played...but I think I used Quina more than any other blue mage, his mighty guard and white wind helped earlier in the game. Other than that, I can never make good use of any blue :s iddkkk I fail.

Nah. I focus on melee usually. I don't have time to go and get every single blue magic and shit.

I stream Bloodborne, FFXIV, and occasionally other games.

    Re: Blue Magic

If you know what you are doing and how to get it, Blue magic can help out a lot. I liked using Quistis, and she had some legit blue magics like Shockwave Pulsar, Degenerator, Mighty Guard (casts protect/shell/aura/regen?! sign me up!). Quina has MG along with Limit Glove, and White Wind which are all powerful abilities that can get you through the whole game. A lot of the abilities are decent if you can get them early on, but many people don't realize this and once they do start learning blue magic, it ends up not helping because the abilities seem weak.

FF5 has some really good Blue Magic abilities throughout the game that you can get, but you have to know what you are doing in order to get them. But if you do know what you are doing, then you can get skills like Iron Claw and Aqua Rake without even being halfway through the first world.

    Re: Blue Magic

I love blue magic, especially in FFV and with Quina.

In FFV, it is at once powerful and useful. Mighty Guard and moves like Aqua Rake are handy, and if you know the first opportunity to get each move, then the Blue Mage is a step or two ahead of every other character for the vast majority of the game.

Quina's abilities are incredible, but possibly the most difficult to get, especially if you have to backtrack.

As for Strago, his abilities are very useful, but the most useful ones don't really become available until late-game, and given that his character is among the last you encounter, he's fairly redundant, which is actually a huge shame.

EDIT: I should probably add that Blue Magic appeals to the collector within me; an urge I have suppressed of late, but was once very apparent. I don't actually mind seeking them out. It's challenging, I suppose you could say.

Also, what the hell does the post below me even say?
