Underworld
I am a Death Dealer, sworn to destroy those known as the Lycans. Our war has waged for centuries, unseen by human eyes. But all that is about to change...
Underworld takes us into the dark underbelly of a city where a war between Vampires and Lycans (werewolves) has been going on for centuries. The main character is Selene (Kate Beckinsale), a Vampire Deathdealer who is hell-bent on killing every Lycan in existence.
When the current Vampire elder, Kraven (Shane Brolly) is suspected of being in league with a reportedly dead Lycan elder, Lucian (Michael Sheen), Selene awakens Viktor, (Bill Nighy) the oldest and most powerful Vampire. However, the truths that Viktor uncovers from Selene's dark past may be more than she was ready for...
Characters
An excellent lineup of characters, all of which were designed very well. The Vampires are created to be sleek and clean while the Lycans are more based as gritty, brutal characters.
Some of the stars on the Underworld roster are:
Kate Beckinsale - Selene
Bill Nighy - Viktor
Michael Sheen - Lucian
Scott Speedman - Michael Corvin
But that's just to name a few. As I said, the characters were very well thought out for this film. Very sleek.

Story
When asked about the traditional vampire and werewolf stories, co-writer Kevin Grevioux (also plays Raze in the film), said that they wanted to take a more scientific approach to the vampire and werewolf stories.
And in Underworld, they did just that. Both species have evolved in methods of killing one another with high-tech weapons and the like. This is not your average vampire or werewolf film.

Music/Sound
The original score for the film was very dark, sinister and fast-paced. Very few bands (if you are quick enough to catch them in the film) appeared actually in the film. The music fits the movie very well and it appears as though the soundtrack itself (not the OST score) is doing quite well according to reviews.

Graphics
Nothing short of excellent. If you watch the special effects feature that comes with the DVD, you'll appreciate the graphics alot more. They actually tried to step away from CG and go back to actual actors in suits. So there are very few characters and backgrounds that were done in the ways we see quite often these days.
Very refreshing to see that it can still be done and look so beautiful.

Directing
Les Wiseman (who is a bastard for being married to someone as incredibly hot as Kate Beckinsale when I should be, damn it!) did a fine job in directing the film. All actors play their parts very well. There wasn't a moment where I thought the acting was cheap.
As a side note, Michael Sheen (Lucian) almost didn't get the part because he is Kate Beckinsale's ex. She actually referred him to Wiseman, who ironically thought he was perfect for the role of Lucian. Weird.
