    Omega!

Just wanted to get your general thoughts on the Omega Ruins, fighting through them, the actual fight with Omega and any strategy ideas you used.

I'll tell you I made it easy on myself. I got the peaceful shield very early in the caves and so that I didn't have to fight my way all the way through. I got both Bahamut & Anima ready for their overdrive attacks, and then when i fought Omega, I simply had Tidus caste haste, let each character perform one action so they could earn experience from the fight, and then blasted the hell out of him with Megaflare and Oblivion from my two Aeons. It was really a short battle that way. How about you?

When I first got into the Omega Ruins I got killed many, many times. XD" I wasn't levelled up enough by then. But after starting to level up there I gained much AP and was able to go further into the cave. I don't know if I ever beat Omega, but there was a fiend I beat. I think it wasn't Omega, but... Ultima? Dunno, but I had no problems fighting it. xP

The Omega Ruins were my favorite place for levelling up. Nice monsters, big monsters, but it was a bit stressful to catch all the monsters there, as a few of them didn't want to appear. -o- It took me an hour to get all the monsters... if not two. O.o

Yeah, it was definately the place to get experience. Although it took longer to kill some enemies. You should definately go back and get to Omega. It was a fun fight. I'd like to try it without using Overdrive Aeon attacks. He was out with one shot each of MegaFlare & Oblivion.

First time I went to Omega ruins, I was to weak so I left. When I got back, I grinded like crazy. By the time I got to Omega, I killed him quickly, it was EZ.

I actually found a No Encounter armor before I went in so i't was pretty easy. Of course I went back and trained there later when I had to capture the monsters for the monster arena. Omega wasn't that hard just make sure that your at a legit level and cast Auto-Life if you are concerned, I didn't really need it he was super easy.

I like the Omega Ruins. I usually do them right when I have free reign over the airship, so I can get some useful equipment, and make a bunch of gil from the stuff I sell. Yes, they're difficult, but so are most optional dungeons. All in all, a cool side area.

Seeing that a lot of you really have trouble with the Ruins, I'll give my general guide, me being the walking FFX strategy guide that I am (no. I'm not bragging. I have a problem.).

    ---

If we're talking about fighting Omega Weapon, he's vulnerable to both darkness and silence, though if I remember correctly, he's got a really high resistance to both, so I always take Rikku's first two turns to throw a Smoke bomb and a Silence Grenade. If need be, cast Hastega on the party and then go to town. And don't forget to steal. If you have the money, as in 1.4 million gil (couldn't remember the number, consulted the guide, shh, don't tell anyone) you can bribe him for 99 pendulums.

Ultima Weapon is a bit tougher, as he is basically immune to every status effect save for I believe Doom. Most of his attacks are magic based, so a few castings of shell or a couple of Lunar Curtains should keep you safe. I don't really remember anything else of note for this fight, so if I'm missing something big, I apologize. Steal from him and make sure Kimahri uses Lancet once to learn his ultimate overdrive, Nova.

As for the actual dungeon, I have some tips:

Equip Tidus with First Strike. If you're lower leveled, as in didn't finish your characters' initial path of the sphere grid, this is NECESSARY. And yes, it must be Tidus, because he has two extremely useful abilities here: flee, and Provoke. With First strike and flee, you can escape any battle that you don't want to do. First strike and Provoke are essential for Great Malboros. Great Malboros will ALWAYS ambush you (it's important to note that this is only true for the Great Malboros in the Omega Ruins, and not the versions inside of Sin, who I believe have a normal ambush rate) with Bad Breath, which if you're not fully prepared with at least confuseproof, will always decimate your party.

Tidus, with First Strike and Provoke, can counter this. Tidus on his first turn should always provoke a Great Malboro, which will cause the Malboro to use a spitting attack against the entire party, that does something like 1400~1500 points of damage to everyone. Difficult at low levels, but obviously more manageable than the other option. It's important to note, as well, that if Tidus gets shifted out of the battle at any point, you officially cancel the effects of Provoke, and bad breath may ensue.

Bring appropriate items. If you steal regularly, by the time you're able to access the Omega Dungeon, you should be pretty well stocked on helpful items. If not, I recommend stocking up on Smoke Bombs, Dream Powders, Poison Fangs, Silence Grenades, and Petrify Grenades, in addition to your normal assortment of healing and status items. I always say that Rikku is the most useful character in battle, and this is one of the many reasons why. Items will always cause the intended status effect, so long as the enemy can be effected by that. It makes Wakka's status attacks useless in comparison.

No Encounters is for pussies. Yeah. I said it. The only reason to use it is if you return to the Dungeon to get the reward for beating Omega (a magic sphere for anyone who didn't know, just return after the fight and go back to where Omega was to get it), and you don't want to deal with doing it all again. It's an optional dungeon, kids. It's supposed to be tough.

Chests in the dungeon contain both useful items and mimics. If you open a chest with a mimic, any chest close to it will disappear, even if you didn't open it yet. These chests do respawn, however, if you leave the Ruins, they reappear, and will most likely have the same items. I don't believe they change places, either. Mimics will be in the same place. Keep that in mind.

Don't forget the last Al Bhed Primer. No. That's it. Just don't forget it.

As long as I'm writing a novel here I might as well go through the enemies in the dungeon.

Zaurus: High agility that even Tidus will have a difficult time hitting if he's at low levels. Wakka, on the other hand, with his high accuracy can hit them with relative ease, so with a Stonetouch or Stonestrike weapon he has a chance of one-hitting them. Zaurus' attacks also can put a member of your party in petrification so beware.

Mimics: Come hidden in some chests either in the dungeon or in a battle. There are four types of mimics, each resembling a different species of enemy: one resembles a Garuda, one a dragon, one a mech, and the other slips my mind, but I want to say it resembles an elemental. They come with different properties, as well: One has max defense, one has max magic defense, one has strength against both magical and physical attacks, and one has no defensive strengths, but has much more HP. Mimics really have no elemental or status weaknesses from what I remember, but tactics are really easy to switch up depending on what type you encounter, and Demi works well if I remember correctly.

Floating Death: Nothing too special, much like many of the other floating eye enemies that you've faced in the past. They can confuse, so quickness is the key. Smoke bombs can help as well. Nothing special.

Black Element: Your normal element, with powerful magic, high physical defense, but no apparent elemental weakness. Can succumb to silence and armor break, so throwing a silence grenade at the beginning of the battle will mean your victory.

Halma: Strong version of your typical armored mole. High HP, defense you can only penetrate using piercing weapons, and high attack. Darkness and power break are helpful allies if you have trouble.

Puroboros: A powered-up bomb, boasting 20,000 HP. Like any other bomb, it will explode after being attacked three times, causing big damage to your party. The attack is still fire based, I believe, so equipping fireproof armor should shield you from the attack. Darkness and silence help, as well.

Spirit: A powerful version of the larvae we've faced before. When attacked physically, they counter with a powerful status attack called poison mist, that, in addition to other things, causes confusion. Magical attacks work well, but stay away from elemental attacks, as it has high elemental strengths, so use flare or ultima instead.

Machea: A powerful version of the Klikk and Epaaj enemies, Machea has a slight weakness to Darkness, so a Smoke bomb thrown at the beginning of battle will basically ensure victory.

Master Coeurl: It's a coeurl with an instant death attack. Throw a silence grenade, avoid Thunder based attacks, and you'll be fine.

Master Tonberry: Probably the rarest enemy in the dungeon. It will, like a normal tonberry, take it's first several turns walking towards the party before assaulting you. Throwing a sleep or dream powder at the beginning of battle is advised, then using Flare or ultima as your main source of attacks. Master Tonberry counters with Karma, which deals damage based on the number of enemies that particular character has defeated. Also, summoning aeons isn't advised, as it will trigger a cute little animation, but then instantly kill that aeon.

Varuna: Casts haste on itself at the beginning of battle, then pummels you with magic attacks. Counter with hastega on your party, then use physical attacks and watch your HP. Next.

Adamantoise: A big ****ing turtle. Darkness and armor break. Pff.

Defender Z: Your normal defender. Darkness and armor/mental break.

Demonolith: I hate them. They counter with Pharoah's Curse, a devastating move that causes I believe Darkness, poison, and silence. They in turn can succumb to Darkness, silence, and slow, as well as all four breaks, but truth be told I usually let my aeons do the fighting for me.

    Great Malboros: See above. Doy.

Hooray, wall of text. That should be it, though. If something else comes to my mind, I'll add it in.

I don't recall this place being that hard. In fact, I remember swooping in and out rather fast. It was the place for EXP, but I wasn't into hitting max level.

by the way, what is Yojimbo's best attack, and how much do you have to pay him. I never can figure out if there is some corelation to the money and his attack

That's off-topic for a thread that's supposed to be about the Omega Ruins, but I'll go ahead and give you an answer to the best of my ability anyway.

Yojimbo's best attack is called the Zanmato, which I believe kills every enemy in the game (besides bosses, I think). I have never got Yojimbo to do this particular attack for me, though.

As for the money you pay, I think there's some sort of formula involved, but I'm not too sure of this. It depends on how Yuna and Yojimbo interact with one another. I found this for you. Take a look if your interested, and it should answer any question you have about Yojimbo.

Having to discover the place for myself was annoying, because I didn't know where I was running. And monsters always appear when I need them the least... So I got tremendously annoyed. With Omega, I just pummeled him into submission. Wish I didn't, knowing I could have bribed him for some rare items. xD

    Re: Omega!

Just as an addendum to James K. Polk's post, the reason that Demonoliths are such bastards is that Pharaoh's Curse also hits you with the rare Curse status, which prevents you from using Overdrives. I think the only way to heal it is a Holy Water; Esuna and Remedies don't cure it. You'll know you have it because your character flashes dark. (not to mention that attempting an Overdrive won't work.)

Unfortunately, aeons are susceptible to Curse, as I found out when I attempted to take them down with Valefor's Energy Blast.

As for the Adamantoise, its breath attack is fire-based; a simple NulBlaze spell on Yuna's turn will take care of your party.

An easy way to take out Puroburos (usually encountered 3 at a time) is to Haste Lulu and have her doublecast Demi until you see the damage get low. The bombs don't retaliate that spell.

Also, the easiest way to defeat the Master Tonberry is with Yuna. Everyone else will feel the full force of Karma; Yuna, however, usually NEVER directly defeats enemies, so Karma will likely be just a scratch. Holy will take that thing out in a few hits if you have Nirvana equipped.

Pray that you encounter Floating Death; Steal from them every chance you get, as each swipe will net you 4 or 5 Musks. Grab 48 of them so you can customize Confuseproof, which is useful against the Bad Breath attack mentioned earlier.

Dark Elements retaliate to physical attacks with Berserk. This isn't a bad thing if it happens to the right person.

If you have used Hastega while fighting a Varuna, remember that it's completly susceptible to Dispel, so you can add insult to injury. Varuna will usually wait a couple turns before casting Haste on itself again.

Finally, I'd like to stress that make sure you use Lancet on Omega Weapon before bringing it down. Otherwise, the only other way you'll get Nova is by facing Nemesis in the Monster Arena. If you've gotten that far, great, but if not, you're in for a long ride before Kimahri can get his ultimate overdrive.

    There, my piece is done.

    Re: Omega!

My journey through the Ruins of Omega were one of easy and tranquil. I had already gotten the Celestial Weapons for Tidus, Wakka, Auron, Kimahri, Yuna, and Rikku so I went in beasting with Tidus and Auron mainly and switching out the third member to gain exp.

In the fight with Omega I was soooooooooo very very very very stupid - I forgot to have Kimahri learn his ultimate blue magic skill - Nova. What happened is I killed Omega in two strikes - one from Tidus and the other from Auron.

yeah same here, then I used it on Nemesis and finaly learned Nova.
I think the simplest way to lvl up in the dungeon is to just first kill the lizards, they only have 9999 hp and mosty come alone in the battle and they give alot of exp.

I'm pretty sure about Auron's Celestial Weapon but didn't Tidus' Celestial Weapon as well have First Strike? That would allow them to kill it before it did anything. I forgot exactly what I did but I sometimes switched out somebody for maybe Yuna and then Summon? I'm foggy in the memory about that as it has been some time. What also may suck more is that doesn't Malboro King always ambush the party?

No, Tidus' weapon doesn't have first strike.

And like SoD said, yeah, Great Malboro's always ambush the party. I always use Tidus with first strike and provoke. That way, you'll never see bad breath.
