That was a normal save before it was turned into a new game+. No hacking involved.
If you use codes you will have minimal control over equipment and the Sphere Grid. If you want to reset the Sphere Grid you will be forced to start a new game and there is no way for you to carry over your stuff. If you want to carry over your stuff you will be stuck with the Sphere Grid you had and there is no way to reset it. Also, nobody has written codes for the room or storyline position. So yeah, codes won't work for a new game+.
