The Four Fiends (& more)

Hello all.

I haven't posted any artwork up for ages, so I think its about time for me to share some of my more recent stuff. Don't bother trying to find the older artwork as it's probably crap!

I've recently drawn the Four Elemental Fiends/Guardians from Final Fantasy IX as for an online art project. They started off as rough sketches, which were then gone over using black Fineliner (mainly no 3 and 1), and then they were coloured using Copic Ciao pens.

I must say that those are very nicely done drawings. I appreciate the color that you added to them, I have such trouble adding color to my drawing that I completely stopped trying because I thought it ruined the drawings to begin with but you did a great job. This was a class assignment? I like Tiamit the best

I really like the Lich picture, it's really detailed and kinda what I pictured Lich to be in FF1. If anything, I least like the Kraken one, because I pictured him a bit differently. He doesn't seem as threatening as the first three imo.

Cheers. I'm glad you like Lich, Rocky, as I have always struggled with drawing skulls, and i've finally been able to draw one which actually looks pretty good! It isn't perfect, but i'm very pleased with that result. I actually think the colour-blending on Kraken came out the best, and I do agree that he doesn't look that threatening, but thats what came out from trying to clean up those FF9 pixels in my head, while looking at the version from FF1 for some back-up.

@ Xithor: It was not a class project (that would have been awesome if it was, unfortunatly when I was at school art classes were more "how to plagurise and do boring crap" lessons). It is for an online art project called the Final Fantasy 500. It is not run by me, but by another person who advertised it on here about a year ago.

Wow these are really good drawings! If I didn't know better, I would have thought that this was artwork for a video game. I really like Kraken and Lich. Yeah I heard about that Final Fantsy 500 project, but I completely forgot about it. You got a real talent there, keep it up dude!

Yeah i'm hoping to get into concept artwork for videogames. Unfortunatly there isn't much of a business in the UK, so i'm probably going to go into another design-type industry in the meantime, save some money and contine learning Japanese to see if I can get the ideal job in the States or Japan. I have done some interesting own-design things too which i'll pop up sometime.

Anyhow, time for some more i've done for the project methinks.

Wow Storm, Behemoth and Bahamut look amazing!! Steiner's lower half is a bit small but he still looks good. I can def say drawing people is much more difficult then drawings beasts just because of the faces and getting proportions or hands and feet right, at least that is how I feel when I'm drawing. Well done!

Yeah, I struggle immensely with hands and feet too. Not only the proportions, but the angles. Yeah Steiner is slightly dispropotionate, but what didn't help trying to get his proportions right is the fact that he has odd proportions in the game too! I'm fine with doing anime characters, but since he's just so... unique... it makes it very hard to get him kind of right!

Oh believe me, it does! I took a look at my Deviant Art account the other day for the first time in ages, and blimey is there some rubbish on there that at the time I thought was great! Although I did find a picture I want to do a revamp of sometime called The Lunar Serpant.

Think i'll pop up my other 3 for the project- the ones I did late last year. These ones were sketched then scanned in on Photoshop where they were coloured.

The reason why Chupon is over a background of clouds is because I wanted to use the image as a desktop, then thought it would be quite funny if he invaded the classic Windows cloud background.

I feel your pain Storm all the FFIX characters were disproportional but that was them returning to their roots which made FFIX one of my favorites if you couldn't tell haha.

Cait Sith and Ahriman look great! Nicely down although I didn't care much for Cait Sith in FFVII haha

Wow, I really like the Steiner (my fave FF character), Ahriman, Cait Sith and Chupon ones. Do you have any original character designs? I'm sure they would be freakin' sweet!
