Favorite Artists

In this thread, we will discuss about the artists who we all admire and appreciate. They can be the traditional artists from way back in the 1500s, the more recent ones, or even artists on the web. Explain why you like their work and what is so unique about their styles. You can go into detail about their background or any particular pieces they established and how you connect with them. Were there any artists that inspired you or effected your own style in any way?

Keep in mind, when I say "artist", I don't just mean painters. There's more to forms of art than just paint. Such as architect, sculpting, glass, graphic design, photography, side-walk art, sand art.. etc.


My favorite artists are the obvious ones. Vincent Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, and Monet. They haven't effected my art in any way, but I still find their stuff the most interesting to look at. M.C. There are a lot of artists on Deviant Art as well, but the majority of them just use a Tablet and Photoshop(I am guilty of this as well, but I still manage to do traditional work at the same time). Which is fine, as long as they don't copy and paste things.

Wow, I never expected to find another person who admires the work of Van Gogh. Truly a great artist indeed.

Now back to mine.

My major favourite artist would have to be the anime creator Tite Kubo.
The reason I choose him is because of the Bleach series. Now I never knew about him until I began watching the series as well as reading it.
He is an outstanding creator, the visuals of backrounds, the effects of the characters, and the outstanding weaponry and fight scenes.
When I first began to know more about him, I became very interested and want to know more.
He is not just a great artisit to me, he is also my inspiration in the art world.

Kudos to Mr. Kubo. You are truly grand indeed.

I absolutely adore Monet. Ever since we studied him in an Art class years ago, I loved his works. His style is just brilliant, and his pieces are so vibrant. In particular, the Water Lilies series. I think those pieces are the ones I associate with Monet the most, and enjoy looking at the most as well. They really are beautiful.

I have to say, Salvador Dali is one of the most interesting recent(died in 1989.. recent enough) artists. He shaved his armpits until they bled.. very gross. I don't know why, either.. just a weird habit I suppose. He was afraid of grasshoppers, couldn't count money, afraid to expose his feet, and would jump up and down in public to get attention(probably so people would notice him and his work.. that's my guess ><). I believe some or most of his art pieces were about masturbation or sexual references, but I may have that wrong.

I read a few of these things in this Oddballs and Eccentrics book my mom bought. It was pretty cool, heh.
