Chez Daja; Hands of An Artist.

    Revamped!*

Aye, don't expect uber high quality pictures, however, I thought it'd be cool to submit a few of my paintings and works onto the site.

I've been drawing for about fourteen/fifteen years now, so I'm fairly experienced and I grew up doing it, so yeah... I'll submit some works, you leave a message, blah de blah.

I'll also be submitting my photogrpahy works on here.

I painted the top one, the second one was photographed.

    Media: Pastel on A3 paper.

Note mistakes with the eyes and lips on both of us. Need practise with pastels -- it was one of my first attempts at pastel drawing.

Ahh... pastel is a very difficult medium to work with. I've tried several times with the stuff and just end up feeling very unsatisfied when I feel that i've reached the endpoint of the picture yet it looks like poop! Yours was a good attempt, and although the technique with the pastel needs work, I think you did the highlights of the hair really well. Seriously, pastel is an art in itself to master so if you get good I really will bow at your feet! Stormy and pastels are not friends!

Your acrylic work is beautiful though. The sense of distance (which I find is very hard to get right) has been achieved perfectly, especially in "The Quiet Lake" and the lighting and shading is really well done. With the lake one I love how you've done the sky.

Chez really does have hands of an artist!

    Thank'ee ma'am!

Yeah, pastels are ****ing hard. I find most troubles doing eyes and stuff. As you can see, my boyfriend and I had slightly strange eyes in that picture, haha...

I may do another one similar to that and post it on here. For now, other commentary on my works is fine and appreciated.

I like this one. I originally did it as a drawing about five years ago, and I've only yesterday, reworked it into charcoal... enjoy!

The dragon looks pretty damn sweet! It's really detailed and looks really spindley and shit, just the way it should be. Only real critique point I'd have about it is that the tail seems a bit fat at the very tip, but that may just be the angle that I'm seeing it from.

I suck at drawing dragons, which usually end up looking like lumps of crap with wings attached to them. If I could even remotely reproduce the calibre of yours, I would be more than satisfied.

    Thank you, sir!

Yeah, that wasn't actually the tip of the tail, I was just running out of paper and didn't want to put anymore charcoal on my parents' table.

I appreciate that, though, thanks a lot.

I'm actually beginning to produce a private collection of... "darker works". I was talking to Winter about it. Might be something the BOD would be interested in.
I'd consider selling it off, though unfortunately, I doubt it'd get bought by anybody -- they'd likely just look at it and think "oh, EW. What were you THINKING?!"

Well I noticed your art thread the other day, I just couldn't think of what to say about your art. I liked it, but couldn't find the words.
Anyway after viewing (and greatly enjoying) your picture of 'The Standing Dragon' I do have to say one thing. You seem to be able to do your thing really well over several different mediums. That's pretty cool I reckon. Talent.

Oh and for some reason the photograph in your first post reminds me of a level in Super Mario 3. Weird....

Drawing for about fifteen years, painting for a few months, pastel and charcoal works for about a month.

Sketchings' probably still the easiest for me because I did it for the longest.

But aye... My family always knew it'd be what I did in the end.

I was very upset that barely much of the detail could be seen over the webcam. Once I get my digital camera charged, I may retake the shot.

I really like the bold use of colors in your paintings. I tend to be so focused on details that the whole composition lacks unity. I admire those who can let go and use line and color the way you do.

Pastels can be super tricky. What kind of paper are you using? I find that the smoother the paper, the more I hate pastels. They slide around and the colors are dull. My favorite paper for pastels is a fine sandpaper. The colors are so rich that way. Of course, I haven't done any work with pastels in years.

    Lovely work.

    Thanks!

I use any random cartridge paper I can get my hands on. It's not smoothe, like for example, printing paper, but it's pretty hard to master because you need to blow the pastel dust away as soon as pastel hits paper.

Pastel working is just another form of art we need to learn on this course. It gets very "mixed media" so we need to practise at home or we hear people complaining about mistake, etc.

Wowzer! Those pictures are awesome, they really stand out and capture my attention. The 'Standing Dragon' is really well done, you did a great job on that. I wish I could draw people as well as you, that's one of my weaknesses when it comes to drawing. You have obviously worked very hard on these and it shows, they are really well done. The Pink Lily is quite beautiful and so is The Vase. Excellent work! I can't wait to see more of your work.

I tried using Pastels once and failed miserably so bravo! They can be very difficult to use, they make a lot of mess at times as well lol.

    Keep up the excellent work!

    Thanks!! I really appreciate that.

Also, I learnt that teaching to draw is surpringly easy... I didn't know before, but now it's all coming to me. I'm surprised how much college has really broandened my horizons, etc.

Don't worry about failing with pastels, you'd be surprised how much people have trouble with them. I feel your pain -- when I first started, I was terrible, everything went a little wrong. I'm getting better everyday, though, I'll have to post some more pastel works!

"In My Garden at Night" is cool, I like the way the plant just pops out against the sky.

"Standing Dragon" is definitely my favorite, for obvious reasons. Awesome job.

Very nice stuff overall. I'd love to see more of your photography, looks like you have a good eye for it.

Thanks! I loved how the sky looked almost unreal... I don't know why... I guess it's because it looks a little purpley... I liked it because of the way the colours just worked together.

Aye, my tutor wants me to start an art project on dragons after she saw my dragon work... I was like "...wow, okay..." as if I need anymore homework.

As for photography, I had my batteries charged the other day, so there should be more to come pretty soon.

Thank you very much for commenting!

Your art is really good .
I really like The Standing Dragon. I wish I could draw half as decent as you then I would be happy.

You also put a lot of detail into the vase and it's lovely.
    Keep up the good work

Far out ... Your work is really really good. I love the way you use the colours and shading ... it's extremely good. I do art as well, but I've never had a hand for painting. So it's always good to look at someone else's work and wish. ^^
I also love the Standing Dragon and Pink Lily. But I'm biased towards lilies.
Great work, Chez. Keep it up!

Oh, that's beautiful! Excellent work! My Mum would love that too because she's really into Christmas scenes like that, I'm going to have to show her. This is very well done indeed. Looking at your pictures makes me want to start drawing and painting. Every time I do though it usually turns into a disaster.

All the pictures above are just wonderful, you have got a lot of skill and talent and that will get you far in the world of art! Some people just splatter paint all over a canvas and claim it's a work of art but you actually paint in a lot of detail and it looks lovely. Keep up the fantastic work, I always enjoy seeing them.

"The Heart" is nice. I can imagine that that would look really good in certain places with surroundings to match and all.

I absolutely love "The Water Prison". You definitely are good at drawing water. My water sucks XD. But yeah, that looks.. Yeah. Really great. I'm sure you can see it yourself, you don't need me to tell you.

Wow, thanks Setsuna! I'm flattered. That comment really made my day, as well as given me a bit of a confidence boost in terms of my artwork.

VD; yes, The Water Prison is a favourite among people I speak to... funny, because it must've took me least time to do. It's probably one of my favourites, too, possibly because of the water. It just stands out to me. Thanks!

    Current works in progress;

    "Christmas Cottage."
