With the exception of Kirby, SSB was pretty balanced. I think Pikachu was nerfed a bit too much in SSB:M, but maybe that's just nostalgia playing into it (but really, that headbutt sucks). Not sure what you mean by bloated...Though I miss some of the levels in SSB, and there are a lot of levels that don't feel complete, or alluring. I replayed the Onnet level though. I really, really like it now, and I love the music (I want it ). Hopefully they'll fix character balances that were in SSB:M though.

I like flat (non-moving) levels a lot, which is why the "final" level where you fight the hands is fun. Nowhere to run or hide. Just smash, smash, smash.

Not a lot. It's just a handful of items and the food. All the rest that you mention is true. In particular, the hammer, like you said, is very easy to avoid, but we'd rather not see it drop from the sky, anyway. Same goes for nearly every other item listed. Just our personal preference. The fan is a special case, however... it wasn't a unanimous decision. I myself am not a fan of the fan. My friend can't say many good things about it. Some other guys we play with love the thing, but they don't miss it if it's turned off, so we just turn the thing off. It's only a projectile to us, which something else falling could easily replace.

On very rare occasions where we do "tournaments" of sorts, we turn off all items, but turn on all stages. But that's once every two years or so. It's difficult for us all to convene when a few guys are still away at college.

Our levels are adjusted a bit depending on where we are playing, though. One guy has a small TV, so stages like Hyrule Temple and Fourside are a HUGE pain in the ass to play when everyone splits up. Actually, the whole game is pretty painful to play in those conditions, but we try anyway. He needs a bigger TV.

EDIT: Yeah, S. Final Destination and the Battlefield are two of my favorites.
    Hero façade. Villain at heart.

Yeah i agree that pikachu is much stronger in SSB than in SSB:M. Young Link is usually my 2nd choice. Both are fast and have a variety of attacks. Also pikachu has the unfortunate side effect of relying on the environment. If you get a closed in level than pikachu has less of an arsenal, since thunderbolt won't work and he has less places to teleport to. So sometimes i'll strictly play with young link so i'm more consistent across multiple levels. However young link still has issues with fall recovery, so places with lots of edges are bad..

maybe i like the rails levels because, as a pikachu player, they're easier to catch someone with a thunderbolt since they have to keep moving and potentially expose themselves to the sky.

Oh we have turned off the baseball bat before frequently. Generally we'll turn off the bat if someone new or less experienced is playing, because they definitely don't think the bat is very fair. The fan would be the next best thing. If the bat drops in our group, then everyone tries to get it as fast as possible.

My copy of DJ Max Portable 2 for the PSP finally came in from Hong Kong yesterday. For those who don't know, briefly, DJMP2 is a Korean rhythm game to the same effect as Guitar Hero or DDR. The "portable" comes from the fact that the pieces fall on the screen of a virtual cell phone -- the PSP game is essentially a handheld version of the actual rhythm games they have on cell phones in Asia.

Here's Play-Asia's direct link to the game: CLICKY!

It has Korean, Japanese, and English support, and is not region protected... hence the purchase. I'm having a lot of fun with it, even if I'm not very good.

So far I've *nearly* mastered two songs on the 4Button mode. I hit every single note every time with a record-high of 99.7% accuracy. I still need to work on my timing on the release with sustained notes -- that's the only thing keeping me from a full 100% accuracy.

The game's OST is pretty nice, too. I'm enjoying most of the songs. It also has a Music Video mode where you can just watch the videos for the songs you play, since you don't have time to pay attention to that when you're actually playing the game.

...I also just realized I could probably make a general thread for rhythm games from this out in the rest of the forum, so I may do that too.

    Looks like a cool game....

This week has gone mostly to MLB 2K7 where i lost in a 6-3 game to Oakland in our league. 7 games in now out of 24 and i'm 4-3.

A little LotRO where i re-rolled my loremaster as a Minstrel for the healing powers.

And BECAUSE I GAVE INTO GOOKY, i have purchased my SIX AND SEVENTH Pokémon RPGs, the re-make of Blue for the GBA and the new DS Diamond. I purchased the GBA one for transfer goodness... i started it last night and will be playing Diamond online to kick S' ass I forgot to buy the DS headset though.

And with good reason, Tif. I'm going to drag as many people as I can down to its murky depths with me. WHY HAVEN'T YOU BOUGHT A DS AND DIAMOND/PEARL YET TIF?

This is the first time since Gold/Silver that I've been excited about Pokemon...Which is 7+ years. Ruby/Sapphire did nothing for me, and FireRed/LeafBlue (Korova! =P) wasn't that much better. Maybe it's the idea of wi-fi and online battling/trading that's given me motivation to partake in the grind, but it's a lot more fun this time around. I honestly didn't think I'd play much...But now that I've started it's hard to stop.

Originally I wanted to start with Piplup (water penguin). Then I heard the grass-type was a turtle (Turtwig?) and couldn't decide, since penguins and turtles are both rawksome. Then somehow I ended up choosing Chimchar the fire monkey. I don't know why. I'm in the third town now, which I guess has the first gym somewhere...If not it'll be the next town, so I'm still at the beginning. I'm still getting used to the fact that the time you play actually matters, since I didn't pay any mind to it in Gold/Silver. It was a nice surprise when a cricket Pokemon just appeared out of nowhere. It's also cool that the battle setting changes from light to dusk to dark (to perhaps dawn).

There are a lot of behind the scenes stuff going on with stats as well (which I'm trying to get a good grasp of). It really, really varies each Pokemon...Which can put you on edge if you're a perfectionist. They randomly add bonuses to the base stats of Pokemon when you first encounter them, which can make a giant difference in the Pokemon's stats later. One may end up with more Strength and Speed while the other may have more Defense and Special Attack. Then there are natures (your Pokemon's temperament), which increases one stat and decreases another, though at times you'll end up with a neutral nature which does nothing. THEN if you battle certain Pokemon enough times, you will gain stat increases from, though there is a limit to growth in one stat and the combined growth of all stats. And it's all very subtle, so you won't have to bother with them unless you decide to look it up. I never really paid much attention to stats in Pokemon until now, so I'm surprised that there's so much depth.

The only thing that sucks is that you have to beat the game before you can catch Pokemon from older games and import Pokemon from your GBA games, I think? And supposedly you have to battle a Pokemon before you can get it on the global trade center thing. I guess they don't want you to have a team full of older Pokemon, so I suppose it's alright...Sorta.

    BUY POKEMON DIAMOND/PEARL, EVERYONE.

This post edited to remove my drunken comments

I have a pal pad but no compatible access point, so no code yet. The issue will be resolved shortly. I refuse to lower the security on my main access point and i'm too lazy to plugin my $700 Cisco one because i'll have to configure it via CLI and that takes a good 10 minutes

Plus i don't have the desk room for it! But yeah, mostly playing Pokémon. A little MLB 2k7. i scored our leagues first shutout with a 5-0 victory and 2 HRs by Manny Ramirez. A bit of LOTRO too...

Here is my current team in order of who i use/like the most:
Lvl 24 Pachirisu nicknamed "Pikachu Wannabe" j/k! it's nickname is "Pachi"
    Lvl 24 Prinplup
Lvl 23 Ponyta nicknamed "Nightmare" (yeah i'm a dork)
Lvl 22 Bibarel (i should nickname him "Buckey")
    Lvl 22 Staravia
    Lvl 22 Luxio

I've had one gym badge for the past few days. I've been spending those days leveling up various Pokemon. The majority of my Pokemon team have evolved by now, most at about level 15 or 16. Currently I'm working with my Magikarp, who is a lot more annoying to level than I remember. It is 15, so it knows Tackle. I thought that would make it easier, but it doesn't, haha.

I finally got my Pal Pad and traded with a friend though. What bothered me was that he was raping all my Pokemon with his eyes. He was able to look at the info on each of them through the trade screen. He wouldn't stop when I told him to. There goes my element of surprise.

Currently my team is, with approximated levels:

    Monferno (20)
    Magikarp (15)
    Roselia (15)
    Alakazam (15)
    Geodude (15)
That Evolution Of Shinx Who's Name I Can't Remember (15)

Something like that. I'll probably end up switching them all out with the exception of Monferno later on. But I'm going to get Magikarp to evolve before then, no matter what. It levels as slow, if not slower, than my Monferno at their current levels, but this just makes me even more passionate! HOOOOOO!

    I also caught a Psyduck.

I have obtained the last two items I did not have in Dynasty Warriors 4. I've also acquired three more level 10 weapons for characters, and have leveled up 5 other characters' weapons to level 9. They await their 10th weapons, which I will get to collecting on my 3 day weekend this weekend.

A few weeks ago I bought Shadow of the Colossus---it was a random purchase---and didn't play it at all. But now I have taken down two Colossi.

Disgaea is more item worlds. I will advance more in the story this weekend.

I'm currently playing Record of Lodoss War
I'm level 100 (max level, been there for 10 hours of game time), have already beat the game, and am working on maxing out every stat possibly for the nearly impossible side quests (beating the game was easier)

I've been playing Kingdom Hearts II off and on. The beginning is kinda slow, indeed, and reminds me of the fact that I never played Chain of Memories. However, I just...
    Spoiler:
Got to the point where Roxas fades out and Sora fades in. I actually felt kinda sorry for Roxas...

I've seen my friend play it, too, so I know I'll enjoy it. I enjoyed the first one, anyway. Anyhoo...

You're a post away from 7000. Just thought I'd let you know.

Lots of Madden 08 on the Wii, Persona 2 for PSX, and Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology on PSP for me as of late. I picked up my copy of Persona 3 today and it's just sitting there, staring at me, but I really want to finish the second one before I get into it. It's not like the storylines are so tied in that I HAVE to finish it... I'd just rather do so before starting yet another in-depth RPG anyhow.

I tried to pick up Persona 3 today but they're sold out. I did get my copy of Luminous Arc.

I forgot to mention besides Record of Lodoss War, i'm also playing Etrian Odyssey.

My copy of Persona 3 is still in its shrink-wrapping. I refuse to open it until I'm done with Persona 2. Gives me some incentive to get it done, because my buddy Chad said that Persona 3 is the best game he's ever played. He called me earlier and said he's never been happier in his entire life... and that it was even better than sex.

And his girlfriend's hot, and into all the kinky shit.

The game must be DAMN good.

I own the first Persona, but it got boring and old fast. So i stopped and had no interest in the sequel. I was skeptical about Persona 3 until reviewers started raving about it. I'll pick it up when I can find one.

As an update to my gaming log, my maxed out character in RoLW can hit for 3.8 million damage now but I still can't beat the remaining 3 side quests in the game. The only equipment remaining to max out is my sword. LOL, i beat the game at 28 hours game time and i'm at 41 hours now. That's 13 hours of pure grinding mostly (and a couple of side quests)

edit: and now i've finished Record of Lodoss War finally... woohoo...

edit edit: contrary to the first paragraph, after looking through my RPGs it is Persona 2 i own (it was so long ago, i was kidnapped in arizona at the time). So it was Persona 2 i got bored of. I just figured it was the first one since it was so long ago and there was a sequel in between then and now.

Shining in the Darkness (Wii VC, Genesis) - I think i'm about halfway through. It's pretty much an old school 3D RPG, which I love. When i was a wee lad i used to play the old 3D RPGs (Wizardry, etc) with a mechanical pencil and a sheet of graph paper, so i'm playing SitD with my macbook and photoshop since part of the fun is exploring and there is no automap.

Etrian Odyssey (DS) - This game gets played now and then since i mostly save it for times i'm not by a TV or in bed. I'm about 15-20 hours in. It's a 3D RPG too.

Two Worlds (360) - Just started, 3-4 hours in. I got this mostly for co-op RPG fun.

When I was in Florida for the past week I played the hell out of Ouendan 2, which is very similar to Korova and Sundance's own cheerleading game they play every night. (PREEMPTIVE ATTACK.) I was able to finally beat it on Normal while waiting for the bus to take me to the airport. I'm about halfway through Hard mode now, and it's a real pain. But it's worth it. It's the only game where you get to cheer on children to keep them from wetting their bed.

Edit: FINALLY BEAT THAT LEVEL. If I let my concentration drift away for even a moment, my giant mecha cat would have been flattened by Tabbyzilla. Now it's off to help a bunch of crazed middle-aged fangirls save an androgynous flamenco diva from being kidnapped by a horde of villainous cow men. I think they have helicopters.

The scariest part is he's not even talking about a game here, folks.

S is going to be downtown one day and some chick starts getting robbed and he shouts "Don't worry I'll save you, I learned this in cheerleading", as he whips out his pen and starts poking the robber with marching band rhythm precision.
