Since a WEBLOG is called a BLOG and this is a GAMING LOG... does that mean its a GLOG?
I am relying on all of you to make this a success since, as Kazzy knows, I spend more time hearing about games than I do actually playing them. The premise is pretty simple though. You talk about what games you have played that day (or past few days), what you have done in these games, how you're enjoying these games (or are not), etc. It's a journal. So if Nightshade wants to talk about a frickin' sweet staff he got in WoW, or if Korova has finally been bitten by a vampire and is drying up in the sun like a raisin, or if Kazanthikus has been razing villages and massacring the inhabitants, or if Ballzy, after playing Crisis Core, wants to gouge out Nomura's eyes, dip them in tar, and feed them back to him piece by piece for maiming the essence of creative writing, please post it! You will be handsomely rewarded with the knowledge that you have my recognition.
:|
Oh, and, mark all spoilers with the [spoil] tag. Be vague or warn about the importance of the spoiler, if possible! Though this shouldn't be too much of a problem with certain genres.

Smash Bros. Melee: Going to my friend's house soon to challenge him and his Link to several matches.
Dynasty Warriors 4: I've beaten the game many times with a number of characters (what, 45 playable in this game?), but right now I am focusing on getting 10th level weapons for some officers. I've also been working on the fat bastard characters like Xu Zhu, Cao Ren and Dong Zhuo who are so ungodly slow I never cared to use them before. When I play this game, normally I stick to the spear-wielders or those who use a swallow-like weapon akin to Serge's in Chrono Cross. My main guy is Jiang Wei, who uses a trident. The man is a beast.
Final Fantasy VI Advance: Leveling up my POWER PARTY that consists of ... Gau, Mog, Umaro and Relm. Seriously. I've beaten this game seven times now and I hardly ever use those characters, so I am now. My dream is to have 75% of my party automated at all times. Relm is already a goddess with magic. The others are taking more time to craft into perfect killing machines.
Disgaea: Hour of Darkness: Just started playing this game again, after a month long drought. What am I doing? Item world, item world, item world, item world, item world, item world, etc. Haven't advance in the story in a long time.
Hero façade. Villain at heart.
I'd like to call it a glag, but a glog makes more sense. Being able to call someone a "damn glogger" isn't too bad, either.
I'll play some Disgaea 2 so I have something to write about! PROGRESS IN STORY, KAZZY.

Demon Chaos - AKA IKUSAGAMI. It's only out in Asia and Europe because I don't know. It's like Dynasty Warriors on crack. Too bad it's constrained to the PS2. Anyways as hilariously fun as this is, it'll get boring soon. On the fourth level.
Ar Tonelico - In the middle of part 2 I think. I'm waiting for the inevitable raunchy sex.
Nodame Cantabile - about to play it. I think Chiaki is very dreamy.
I once read that you either really love or really hate Disgaea... this thread seems to agree
Haha, nah, Ballzy is a pretty big fan of Disgaea, if not a bit tired of it since each game is near-endless. On the other hand, he said he only likes FF because Gackt's in there somewhere (and he'd like to sex him up, of course).
It can really be a love-hate thing, but, and this is from knowing Kaz, you can find a good medium. He instinctively avoids most things dealing with anime bullshit (which Disgaea is saturated in), but the system is fun enough to where he can relate it loosely to something like Diablo. I think he actually enjoys one or two of the characters as well, to some extent, so it feels like an accomplishment that I was able to introduce it to him.It took a bit for me to come around, too, but it taught me (for the 1000th time) not to knock it until you try it.
Why haven't you played it, Korova?![]()

I even take it a bit further and set up 4-5 exhibition games so i can "buy" scouting reports for each player (you're only allowed so many points to buy the reports in an exhibition game), wait for the player to show up at the plate so the reports show up and then pause the game and write it all down in a spreadsheet.
Hehe... my next opponent's record is 5-1 and i'm 4-2, so it's important that I win.
then I played Oblivion... I haven't played the main quest line in so long. I've been working on side quests most notably the Thieves and Assassins guild lines. The Assassins guild quests are way more fun, the thieves guild is more like robin hood honorable thieves and are against killing. Thank god for the Assassins guild. A typical quest involves tracking a particular person, learning all about them, and then tip-toeing passed guards and other people to eliminate him, but there are plenty of other unique quests as well and plenty of different ways to kill.
Spoiler: My last quest had me track a person in the main city. I had to find him, then visit his friends and talk to them as well as follow him to learn where he goes every day. Turns out he has a nasty drug habit and will go to an abandoned home to partake of his habit. While the guild let me kill him anywhere i wanted, i got a bonus for making sure nobody saw, so the house was perfect. I waited for him and shot him from a dark corner.
I advanced a few ranks in the thieves guild too... a lot of sneaking around and avoiding guards. But like i said its more honorable stuff.. help the poor, recover stolen items, rescue people from prison, etc..
How can you advance in two guilds that have completely different goals?! There's nothing like alignment, is there? The spoil'd one sounded awesome though, lol. Why did the Assassin's Guild target him?

I'm not a big PvP fan, but i never saw the appeal of care bear servers... it takes out the wonderful threat of being in enemy territory.. I think Blizz did PvP perfectly for the PvP servers, using factions and such, instead of UO where you can just attack anyone. The first time I came face to face with another druid in neutral territory i froze and my heart started racing. He was the exact same level, and i barely won. It was fun and from then on i was sold on it. I never ganked unless it was a thief or a shaman.. haha.. just to discourage them. ****ing thieves and shamans =P
Any rate, my friends started playing LOTRO... it's pretty ****ing sweet... the urge is there to just try it for a few months, casually... the music system is sweet, as a bard, you can write your own music or play anything.. it supports notes B3 up to C5 (which covers all of the treble clef plus a little higher)
Also PvP is done in a new way.. I guess they found that people who play WoW (casual people mostly) like the PvP but feel "embarassed" with the player confrontations.. .like a shammy 4 levels below you kicks the shit out of you... so instead of comparing apples to apples, LOTRO compares apples to oranges... every player gets to also control a monster, and the more you level up your monster and take control of the bad guys in the game it will help level up your main character (the good guy) or open up new quests for them. Pretty ****ing sweet.. in sound..

PvP rules and I guess most of today's games are made for pussies, even if there's some sort of PvP in them. It's great that you can attack anyone and anyone can attack you, no matter where you are in the game world. HAHAHAHAAH.
PvP in EVE Online is great. I love it. First I have to mention that the training in the game (there's no levels, you only train skills one skill at a time) advances in real time, even if you're not in the game. I think currently learning all the skills to their highest level would take probably 30-xx years (I have no idea because haven't played it recently and more skills, a lot more, have been added) REAL TIME. So you have to choose, but it's not so long to train all the skills to level 4 (level 5 is max) and the differences between the levels aren't big (but will help).
So this all leads to a situation where a player who has played 4½ years is 4½ years ahead of someone who starts now and there's nothing you can do about it.
But... its very fast to learn the basic skills and after that it is already possible to kill the 4½ years old player in battle if you happen to meet him in the same kind of ships, or even if he happens to have a bigger one or smaller one. The better skills will help, but more important is how good you are and what kind of weapons and other systems you and him have in your ships.
And even if you can't fly battleships until after about one month of training, you can be as useful as anyone else in fleet battles... flying frigates as tacklers, scrambling and webbing bigger ships or taking out the enemy's smaller ships.
And depending on the skills and weapons and and other systems on the ships, smaller ships can take out bigger ones.
Most important is of course that you can be attacked anywhere. The core systems are supposed to be safe, but sometimes some people have figured out a way to kill people anyways (and sometimes have got themselves banned). But most of the systems in the game are dangerous. And corporations and official alliances can be target of war, which will allow the war participants to fight against each other everywhere, so you can't be perfectly safe no matter where you are.
EXCELLENT.
I also like how you will loose your equipment (unless someone you know manages to pick them up first) and it can really hurt. Some equipment is so expensive that it will take months of real time to gather the money to buy them.
Also if you don't have a clone (which cost, but basically everyone can always afford to have it) and your escape pod is shot, you will lose some skills (which you have to train again in real time to get them back...).
Everything I saw about EVE Online kicked ass.. It just looked VERY time consuming.
WoW PVP is ****ing awesome. I was skeptical at first, but I fell in love with it immediately. It always made my heart race. I'm buying LOTRO on my lunch break now... my friends have convinced me.
Me and my bf are big fan of PvP and we love the Ultima Online style - kill anyone! =P. He's just wary about him getting pulled into WoW again. WoW ate 2 years of his life lol.
What I hate about WoW is its gear dependency. If you can raid 5 times a week, you'll get the best gears in the game and you can virtually kill anyone. But it doesn't take just an hour to raid..it takes 3-5 hours of assembling and coordinating 40 people (they reduced it to 25 now) and add to that , the potions and materials you need to prep for the raid.
Though I've seen the PvP/Arena rewards to be really good this time around. So you can also get good gear from PvPing.
I heard EVE was good too but I also heard that not many people are playing it..thus leaving you floating in space endlessly alone?
I wish Tabula Rasa will have a good PvP system. I've seen the gameplay movies and they look really nice and action packed. I saw a couple of gameplay movies and suddenly, WoW gameplay looked really boring...I lost interest in Conan and Warhammer Online (WH: O) after watching it lol (still considering Conan and WH: O if Tabula Rasa would suck though). On the other hand, WH: O pvp system looks interesting.
http://www.cinemablend.com/games/GDC...iler-3226.html
the problem with gear in WoW is no matter what you path you choose PvP or raiding it will take you an endless amount of time to get the gear. You have to lay down some serious hours a week to advance in PvP.
WoW definitely sucks you in. If you just want to play a couple hours a day you're ****ed. Thats why i think LOTRO is going to be good for a few months. If you want to kill others, you just take control of one of the monsters in the world. It's much more serious an MMO though. WoW was light and cartoony and I really liked that. I would love to just try every new MMO for a couple months.. lol... i just like creating characters and seeing new systems.
From what i saw there was a ton of people playing EVE, but the world is just so vast, and nearly everything is created by the players.
The amount of players have increased steadily over the years, but yeah, there are probably still some star systems where you might spend a lot of time without ever seeing anyone. There's thousands of systems, and some of them, especially the core systems, do attract most of the people. But if you join a bigger corporation, there's always some mining or fighting (PvE or PvP) to do. Even if you don't look for trouble, the trouble will find you... ;) And all the lowest security areas have been claimed by alliances so just being there you would probably sooner or later get some people after you.
And nowadays there's player built stations in the low security systems, and neutral stations built by one player alliance and their navy protecting the areas.
And yeah, it requires time if you actually want to be able to get the biggest ships and best equipment... (I think the Titan ships have finally been released... couple of years after the game had went online it was mentioned that none of the biggest alliances could even build one with the resources they had gathered at that point... :D )
and some corporations do require that you can play certain amount per week. But there are also some corporations for older people who need to work a lot and spend time with families etc. But I don't know how much fun you can have unless you can play several hours per day. :P
Gooky tried to get me to play WoW, but if I understood the PvP correctly, I'm just not interested in it. :P Eve's PvP is excellent except for one thing... the people playing the game... Not all though, but...
I'll give an example... that happened in summer 2004. My corporation was part of this one alliance (which doesn't exist anymore) and while in their systems we got a warning that a hostile alliance had a large fleet approaching and probably going to try and take one of the stations. So we gathered all the players/ships we could into a fleet, some were in mining setups so it wasn't like we had the perfect fleet there and the enemy did actually have more ships.
But apparently they had more smaller ones and their scouts saw our fleet and they then decided to abort... maybe they had attacked if they had known the setups on our ships... maybe not.
But the thing is that that is the way many of the fleet battles end up... fleets avoiding each other because the odds are against winning. Which is of course wise... but I would have liked to have a fight there at that time, no matter which side had the better odds at winning. Forget the odds, just roleplay that fight, one side coming to conquer and the not so well setup fleet trying to defend.
I guess easy for me to say though because I mostly just fly the cheapest and smallest crafts so that I don't have to spend weeks to gather more money to replace what I have lost (although with good corporations and alliances I think you can get so wealthy fast that you can lose a lot...).
Then there's the problem of players logging off the game when they are outnumbered and can't escape (they have been warp scrambled)... so they log off and hope the few minute timer finishes before they are destroyed.
Anyways, I have always said to everyone I have talked about the game that the game sure isn't for everyone. :P I think Lococolt has played and likes it though.

I know what you mean, but that's less because of WoW (I've never gotten to level 60/70 for the endless raid grind) and more because of Korean-made MMOs. RO is probably the most popular example. All you do is grind, pick up loot to sell to NPCs, and hope rare items drop so you can vend them for money to buy decent equipment.Originally Posted by Quistis
Unless you know the ropes or have good friends, chances are you will be getting nowhere fast. The game's economy has evolved to where the most vital pieces of equipment are normally expensive. You can either scale the wall at snail's pace, or get lucky. And even when you get there, you'll probably end up discarding that equipment later in order to get ridiculous bonuses (that can destroy your equipment during upgrade). You will probably break tons and tons of costly equipment before you actually get it. And then there are the insane collection quests.
Not that I didn't like RO, it's great fun with friends...Just...WoW's economy is much more balanced in comparison. There was this one poll I read...Somewhere. Probably 1up, or a gaming blog. It stated that the values between westerners and easterners in terms of MMOs were fairly different. I can't remember the exact details, but westerners preferred a large variety of quests, etc. while easterners enjoyed a large variety of rare items and collectibles. The values are quite different, and it shows in the MMOs.
So, RightWing, when are you coming over to WoW?

WOW definitely solved my Diablo addiction... it was like playing a brand new diablo.. the game felt like they took nearly everything from Diablo and made it bigger and badder.. the skill trees were awesome... I can't wait for an actual new diablo.

Mostly posting here for Kaz's info, he contemplated doing this but seems to have gotten sidetracked.
FFVI: Testing just how broken FFVI Advanced can be with their levelup bonuses from Cactaur.
I leveled up Terra to 82 currently. Without any equipment bonuses, her strength is 61, speed is 67, most other stats are lacking.
Locke is next, he's at 73. Without equipment bonuses, he's at speed 82 right now.
Edgar and Sabin are the same level, 66. Sabin's base strength is 78.
My wife and I are playing Twilight Princess. Unfortunately, I accidentally saved over my save, so I just copied hers and took the minor setback of redoing half the dungeons. The cave of trials is probably the first time I got infuriated with a Zelda game. Halfway through that damned cave comes a couple Shegoth ripoffs and and half a dozen ice knights. Basically everything can hit you from across the room, and have no problem doing so. I managed to wipe them out, only to be followed with a battle with two darknuts afterwards.
This user is running Jason version T.0. and is subject to frequent freezeups, illegal operations, and dissapearing off the face of the planet at any time.
And by all means, drama with bad taste.
Last night i spent my time playing LotRO. Which was pretty fun. It's not WoW and that has its advantaged and disadvantages.... the disadvantage being its not made by blizzard and is nowhere near as refined, smooth, balanced, customizable, and well thought out. WoW is clearly a better game, but I knew it would be. What I wanted from LotRO i'm currently getting, which is something that isn't wow, has a couple unique mechanics, and is fresh.
For being set in what is considered the father of modern fantasy, it certainly is much less fantastical than WoW.. lol... WoW has the great cartoon art style and LoTRO went way more realistic. I think the big problem with MMOs set in an already made universe is you are confined as a designer to too many rules and everyone wants to be the hero. Like with star wars galaxies, they didn't want to allow people to be a Jedi. Thus you cannot be a Wizard because there were only 5 and you can't be a Ranger for they fear everyone would want to be aragorn or something... lol
So basically there is no magic but there is magic, it's just called something else, and its very silly.
Anyways! I made a test character last night on the Firefoot server. A Human Captain (basically a WoW Paladin). I'll probably create a different character to play when all 3 of my friends that bought it are online, and perhaps one more character as a "main" if i play it at all when nobody is online.
LotRO seems to be aimed at the RP Server players of WoW haha.. they go into a lot of detail to make sure you know everything you need to know to RP... plus there is an OOC chat (i think wow had that but only in RP servers)

I think Locke in my game is level 44 or thereabouts. After I am done leveling up the new Fabulous Four to my liking, Locke's speed will go through the roof. And Terra's magic, as well.Originally Posted by True Omega
Dynasty Warriors 4 -- More of the same, but I love it. Got Zhang Liao's 10th level weapon. Leveled Cao Ren's weapon to level 7.
Tales of Symphonia -- The story has been advanced as much as I can before setting foot in the final dungeon, so I collected some stat-increasing items from certain locations. I'm trying to craft the ultimate killing machine.
Super Smash Brothers: Melee -- Trying to regain my skills with Falco and Samus, as they are the two I use the most. I've played Falco for the last few hours against a level 9 Ganondorf (to simulate True Omega), a level 9 Link (to inaccurately simulate my friend), and a level 2 Pikachu (to simulate Gooku). No, he was level 9 as well.
You all need to tell me what settings you use, though. Like, what items you turn off, what stages you deselect from the randomizer, etc.
Hero façade. Villain at heart.
I played SSBM yesterday. I just fought Fox the entire time, since he's one of the cheaper characters in the game. I started off with a single level 9, then two level 9s, then three level 9s. Naturally, they were teamed. I could handle up to two to some extent (and win frequently), but by three it was tough. They had this tactic where one would grapple me, and the other two would either just shoot me or kick me repeatedly, and then throw me down and turn their deflectors on. It was like being put through a meat grinder. I'll probably try Link or Ganondorf today. No Falco, he's probably even worse.I still have the same sucky reflexes I've always had. It's going to take a while before I get better.
And then I played some Disgaea 2. Currently the majority of my party is level 70, with the two main characters being about level 100. I haven't done item world yet...I want to beat the story first, and since I haven't played in a while it wouldn't be a good time to start. Leveling up skills are really damn annoying, and I don't know how to make it go any faster. I can't tell if damage dealt affects skill EXP gain, or if it's the number of targets affected, or what. I haven't bothered to check, either. I also checked what it would be like to go into Item World with a Rank 30 or so item (maximum being 40, though I think you can only access up to level 39 in shops). The enemies were surprisingly weak, so I guess I'm really behind in terms of equipment. Even the bonuses awarded at the end of the level give better offerings.
There is a second Item World in Disgaea 2. It's for the more "epic" parties. In a level 39 item you'll meet up with an Item God by the end of it (you may have to use a legendary item, I can't remember) who's level is 9999. Goddamn.

We started our LotRO Fellowship, but i'm going to re-roll as a Bard as we need a healer and the Lore-master is really stupid and is mostly a pet controlling class. The Bard is the cleric class, but since you can't have "magic" they've renamed hit points to "morale" and the bard by playing songs can boost your morale, i.e. heal you. So i'll be the character in our group of friends standing back from the battle singing and playing my lute instead of participating directly in the killing... haha.. outrageous.
Stages I turn off in the randomizer:Originally Posted by SOLDIER #819

Most of the "on rails" stages, plus Flat Zone and Fourside, which my friends and I don't like too much. We hated moving stages in Super Mario Bros. 3; we hate them now.
Items I turn off:
Hammer
Food
Maxim Tomato
Heart Container
Lip's Stick
Cloaking Device
Super Mushroom
Poison Mushroom
Fan
My friends and I have reasons to turn all of these off. The hammer as an equalizer is great against people who have not played Smash Bros as often as we have, but we see no need to keep it in there since we've all practiced the game long enough. Food items were initially allowed, but were taken out for the same reason (no need). We don't like the Lip's Stick or the poison/super mushrooms, and the cloaking device, while preventing damage, is more annoying than anything to us. The fan is just useless to us.
Hero façade. Villain at heart.
Holy Shit, that's a lot of items to turn off..
Turn off the fan? man the fan is awesome.
I've logged 100s of hours with my friends in SSB:M and we do not turn off any items usually, even when conducting party tournaments. The idea being that even the items we deem to be useless still appear and thus saturate the percentage of a good item appearing... plus if you're desperate any item can be picked up and then just thrown at each other. And the race to healing items is part of the fun and may cause other acts of desperation. I can see a strong case for turning off the maxim tomato though, especially in non-rail levels.
The hammer is extremely easy to avoid, so its no big deal to us.
We don't usually turn off any levels. The rails levels are well liked because they keep people moving and helps prevent item camping. The Ice climber level is great. It annoys most people, so i love it. The poke floats level is really stupid though and if it comes up too much in our randomizer usually we agree to turn it off.
I can handle most of the levels. The levels that are really small or allow you to scroll off to the side (like that 8-bit Mario level) annoy the hell out of me since it's hard to finish enemies off at times. However, I don't turn them off since I want to experience it a couple of time just to be safe. I like moving levels though. Ice Climbers is probably my least favorite of those because it's so flat, but PokeFloats is fun. Hyrule Temple is probably the stage I use the most frequently though.
During "training" I try to not rely on items since it sorta takes away from relearning how to use characters. I should probably just turn them all off completely for the time being.
I get sort of annoyed with SSBM though. Whenever I use attacks that have "reach", I misjudge the distance by just a tiny bit and the attack doesn't hit, leaving me wide open for slaughter. And sometimes my attacks (like Thunder) don't hit when (I think) they should. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it soon enough, because it's driving me crazy.

I also think the Hyrule Temple is the best designed level. It's great and really good for those times you want to turn off items completely. Gives you a nice playing field.
