(EDIT: Or are they actually called "Paper and Pencil RPG's?" I'm not sure...) I started the sports thread... now for something completely different.
A few months back, at an all night party through my youth group, some of my friends announced that they would shortly be starting a gaming session, which they titled "Star Wars RPG." I decided it sounded interesting, as per there was nothing else really going on at that time; some people were playing DDR, some people were elsewhere playing instruments, and others, I think, were either playing board games or falling asleep. In any case, I'd never played a table top RPG before, so I needed help getting my character set up. Eventually, I decided to become a Gran Scoundrel named "Ask Bob." The "Ask" part came to be because in the book, there were these examples of gran names. Some of them were "Aks" something, but one was also "Ask" something. It was probably a spelling error, but I decided "eh." Here is Ask Bob's Origin Story:
Anyhoo, my primary roll has been to run around and shoot things while on foot (and also get shot at several times) or hide behind things and sneak around. On the ship, I'm the shields operator, and I have such famous catch phrases as "We're all gonna die," and also, in response to an Imperial telling us that we were about to be boarded, "Up yours!" Lately, I've decided to make my way to becoming a "Sharpshooter," which is a "prestige" class, and to get there, I needed to also be a soldier, so now I'm a scoundrel/soldier. And in the last gaming session, I was involved in a crash that left me at -8 wounds. I nearly died, and still very well could die! Yay.Name: Ask Bob
Class: Scoundrel
Race: Gran
Ask Bob was born on whatever planet it is Grans are from. Pretty much a regular Joe Shmoe, Ask Bob had been working a series of random jobs, getting fired from many of them because he was a poor worker and a lazy bum. One day while working at whatever is the equivelant of a Star Wars universe gas station, Jim's ship arrived. Ask Bob decide, without the approval of his boss or anyone else, that it was break time, and he snuck on Jim's ship, went into a corner and took a nap. When he woke up and found that the ship had left the station, he merely shrugged and said "it happens." No one questioned his presence on the ship, either, so he figured it was cool.
In any case, it's a fun game. It works better when there are less people around, however; we get like 15 people at some gaming sessions, and everyone keeps talking and laughing and etc, so that it takes an hour and a half before it's your next turn, quite often. This kinda sucks when you start gaming sessions at like 1 am... it gets to be 6:45 am before you're done on some nights, and then you go home and get like 4 and a half hours of sleep.
Anyhoo, anyone else a "gamer?" Or rather, a Table Top RPG'er? Or whatever? Anyhoo...
