I never would have thought that an elixir would have even effect him. And just beat him a day before, i think he is the hardest boss in FFIV.
FF4 for the DS i found a good tip for defeating the doctor with the reversal gas without all the hassle is to use an elixir on him while damage is reversed if he doesn't reverse again you can kill him in one turn.
