I think Machine Head's version of Iron Maiden's 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' is amazing. I also like Children of Bodom's (?) version of Poison's 'Talk Dirty To Me' is pretty damn good too, and AFI's version of Misfits' 'Halloween'. Metallica's versions of the Misfits are terrible (and this is coming from a huge Metallica fan ).

The greatest cover song is Gamma Ray's cover of Iron Savior's "Watcher in the Sky." Technically, I'm not sure if it can be classified as a cover, because Kai Hansen founded Iron Savior and wrote Watcher in the Sky (in case you aren't a true metal fan and don't know who Kai Hansen is, he founded such bands as Helloween, Gamma Ray, and Iron Savior; three of the greatest power metal bands in the German heavy metal scene).

I am not a very big fan of Jimi Hendrix, but his cover of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" is miles better than the original, which is saying a lot. It isn't a tribute so much as it is an interpretation of Dylan's song.

I'm not sure what my absolute favorite of all time is, but one that's waaaaay up there is The Phenomenauts cover of Make A Circuit With Me by the Polecats. If you liked the original version, you will love The Phenomenauts version.

The Phenomenauts ? Make A Circuit With Me ? Listen free at Last.fm

Oh, and any cover Elvis does is pretty much guaranteed to be loved by me.

EDIT: Bahaha I've already posted in this thread. OH WELL, I had more to add so there.

I don't listen to too many cover songs, mostly because they tend to be worse than the originals I've also promised myself never listen to covers of Queen songs anymore, since they're always butchered >.<

As far as a favourite goes it's probably a toss up between Guns 'n Roses - Live and Let die, originally by Paul McCartney i believe or The Clash - I fought the law.

Other good ones i've listened to are Aerosmith - Come Together, Metallica - Turn the Page, Rage Against the Machine - Kick out the jams and Led Zepplin - You shook me.

It's been said before, but I'll reiterate that Guns N' Roses does do wonderful covers. My favourite is definitely "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," but their version of "Live and Let Die" and "Sympathy for the Devil" are also awesome.

Also of note, for one of the Nativity in Black albums (I think the second one?) Bruce Dickinson singing "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" makes me pretty happy, too.

I like Weezer's cover of The Band's song "The Weight", it's really country-like, and is something new and unfamiliar from Rivers Cuomo and the Nerd Rockers!

Also, Nonpoint's cover of "In The Air Tonight", originally done by Phil Collins & Genesis. Awesome Punk-Rock rendition of a classic song. (Gorilla on the Drums anyone??)

Filipino artists are fond of making song covers, so I pretty much have a lot of songs to choose from. But above all those, I pick, Bossa Nova Queen, Sitti's version of I Didn't Know I Was Looking For Love. It's a pretty relaxing song, and I like its message.

Joe Cocker singing the Beatles' A Little Help From My Friends.

Also, Feist's Nina Simone covers are worth a mention, as is Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower.

However, I would like to note that Panic In the Disco's version of Karma Police convinced me that they are terrorists.

Agreed. That is quite possibly one of the best covers ever.

    Necropost FTW!

I looked up that HIM cover of Don't Fear the Reaper... it was repulsive.

    Here you go:
YouTube - Northern Kings - We Don't Need Another Hero

    Tina Turner... made metal...ish!

    Also:
YouTube - Northern Kings - Kiss From A Rose
    Seal made metal..ish!
