Most of these bands can be considered in multiple genres, but they are in the power metal genre as well:

    Rhapsody of Fire
    Luca Turilli
    Domine
    Thy Majestie
    Elvenking
    Heavenly
    Blind Guardian
    Hammerfall
    Ride the Sky
    Freedom Call
    Dragonforce
    Dragonland

Rhapsody of Fire is the band that got me into power/symphonic metal and probably my favourite. I'll be happy when they resolve their legal issue(s) with their label, Magic Circle Music, so they can start working on their next album.

Haha, a Power Metal thread Great thing. x3

Of the ones you mentioned, Messiah, I listen to Edguy and Sonata Arctica. Both are not no1 bands for me, neither has Edguy ever been in my top 10. Yet, it's a great band. Mostly I enjoy "Holy Waters", it's a great song which I love to sing along with. <3
Sonata Arctica... was a good band... years ago. .,. They were the ones that brought me into the Metal genre years ago. But they've changed quite drastically. I remember those great times when I listened to Silence all day long and couldn't be satisfied. ToT I was soo~ happy when I heard that "Reckoning Night" would come soon. I bought it on the first day - and it was a disappointemnt. They've changed their style, too much keyboard for me, the lyrics weren't as good as usual, the melodies weren't that good. Okay. Worst album so far, no prob. Then I waited for Unia to come. I got it on the first day (as usual xD") and then... I was disappointed again. O.o It was better than Reckoning Night, but it wasn't as good as the others. Again, the lyrics... I think that's what annoyed me most about the new album .,. For example Paid In Full. It just seems to be a song to sing along with, but the lyrics aren't as good as, for example, Black Sheep or Wolf And Raven.
I decided to not listen to them anymore when I heard how they raped Wolf And Raven. ToT" I hope you haven't ever heard the new version, it's sooo~ terrible. Sad, 'cause I love to listen to the earlier songs. .,.

As for Zargabaath's list... I enjoyed Blind Guardian a lot a few years ago. But it was the same as Sonata Arctica... they changed. :/ "A Night At The Opera" wasn't that good, there were only 1-2 songs I liked. But I love the earlier albums. :3" I think I just don't like them anymore because their vocalist changed his way of singing. I couldn't listen to his voice anymore. X.x"

Besides those you mentioned, here's what I like. (Hopefully they're all considered Power Metal ^^")

    - Nocturnal Rites
    - Primal Fear
    - Wizard (just f-ing funny XD)

But I listened to Power Metal more when I was younger. xD" I've quite much stopped listening to it all the time. .-.

Mine would have to be Iced Earth, Demons and Wizards, Nightwish, Blind Guardian, and PowerQuest.Even though I do like many many more.

Iced Earth's music just tells a story in most of their albums and it always gets me hooked. Blind Guardian I would have to say was the start of it all. I really like all of their albums and even their song Sacred from Sacred 2. Demons and Wizards tells about Steven Kings series The Dark Tower. Nightwish has that fantasy element that is just hard to shake, despite their new singer I still enjoy their music. PowerQuest just has those fast rifts and upbeat tempos they are not dark and gloomy, but there is nothing wrong with being dark and dismal at all, they are a more happy serious group and I like that.

I'm actually surprised to see some good ones listed here. I came into this thread expecting people to be linking screamo stuff they claimed to be "power metal". Luca Turilli, Rhapsody, Hammerfall... but you're all forgetting the best one of all: Kamelot.

Everyone in the band is so talented! Roy Khan, their lead singer sings better live than produced.

YouTube - Kamelot - The Haunting

That's my favorite song of theirs, although its one of their slower ones.

YouTube - KAMELOT - March Of Mephisto

That might be one you'd favor. (Features Shagrath from Dimmu Borgir!)

@Messiah: Damn, you've got a great taste. Oh, and that's some funny coincidence, I'm currently listening to Firewind. xD I saw them live a few weeks ago.. they were great! ^^ One of the best Power Metal bands for me, at least since I've seen them live. x3

Symphony X anyone? They are awesome. I borrowed 'Paradise Lost' from a friend and it blew me away. Awesome band.

    Also:
    Alestorm
    Dragonforce
    Helloween
    Turisas
Iron Maiden (in some circles, I would definitely call them PM)
    Iced Earth

Which other one? They've had 4 vocalists. One for their first album, another for their second, then Barlow, then Owens and now Barlow again. If you're referring to Tim Owens, then I disagree. Although he wasn't as good as Barlow, he was still a great vocalist.

At any rate, I'm not nearly as into power metal as I used to be (actually, I'm not nearly into music as much as I used to be), but I've still got a weakness for some great power metal.

I started with Gamma Ray and naturally that led to Helloween, which then lead to dabbling with various artists I've seen recommended. As it stands now, I'm mostly into Iced Earth, Blind Guardian and Kamelot. Gamma Ray and Helloween still occupy a special place in my heart (I consider Gamma Ray's "No World Order" to be among the best albums of all time), but they've certainly been superseded by the former 3.

Hammerfall and Dragonforce are okay in small doses, but I find I get bored of them rather quickly. Rhapsody is another great band as is Demons and Wizards (obviously).

Abso-freakin'-lutely. The Haunting is one of my favourite songs of all time.

They've had FOUR?! O.o" Okay, sorry, I didn't know. I meant Tim Owens. (But I didn't remember the name, unfortunately. ^^")
I don't want to say that Owens is a bad vocalist. He IS a great vocalist, but in my opinion he didn't fit the picture I had of Iced Earth. He wasn't... hm, let's say he wasn't "dark" enough. Barlow knew how to express melancholy in the songs, Owens didn't. ^^

As for Symphony X... There is only one song I like: Revelation (Divus Pennae Ex Tragoedia) - damn that title <.<"

Again, I'll disagree with that point as I thought Owens' vocals on Framing Armageddon were plenty dark (though again, not as Dark as Barlow's) and the Glorious Burden wasn't really a dark album, making it moot, but I do understand where you're coming from. The problem is that Barlow was around long enough to solidify for most that he was the voice of Iced Earth and it just sounded off without him. For those of us that aren't musically inclined ourselves, we rarely notice changes in guitarists, drummers and the like, even though they happen all the time, but vocals are something even the most tone deaf can recognize as something different. So it hits pretty hard when that difference takes place.

I used to be pretty big into power metal but not so much lately. I still listen dragonforce they are the shit, and you can't go wrong with Kamelot. I listened to a power metal band yesterday called Powerglove they were pretty good. Other than that I don't really listen to very much power metal anymore. I usually drown myself in hard rock or Zeppelin whatever gets me going basically...

Two bands I just recently listened to...Rising Force, and Hammerfall...Both are incredible, Hammerfall includes Yngwie Malmsteen who is insane with a guitar..
