Well. I say Dio. Dio's music is composed much better, and Dio is a better technical vocalist. If you were saying personality-wise, Ozzy would win hands down. The guy is a freaking legend.
Who has better music, Ozzy( by himeself) of Ronnie James Dio??>?
I say Dio, Holy Diver's my Fav song, and i belive that that when Dio was with ozzy it was Dio who made all the songs awsom!

Dio is truly horrible with lyrics. He just references and rereferences rainbows, elfs and demons.
He's alot better than Ozzy. And Holy Diver is a good song along with Rainbow in the Dark and Last in Line... And plus he actually wrote his own music and could play guitar.

YAY, im gunna get atacked here, but i have to say OZZY, both in sabbath and as a solo artist
In sabbath, there was amazing songs such as faries with boots and Spiral archietect, not to metion the singles (war pigs paranoid iron man) although dio did create good song in sabbath, they were nothing compared to ozzy's
As solo artists, Dio had 2 really good songs in my opinion, holy diver and rainbow in the dark, 2 very good songs
But ozzy had whole albums of brilliance, "the blizzard if oz" isn't the best album when you first listen to it, but after a couple of plays its amazing, songs like Crazy train and Suicide solution, as well as one of my old time favs "goodbye to romance' RIP randy rhodes
and for people who say that ozzy cant sing, he really really can!!!
Dont get me wrong i've been ranting about ozzy now, but i do love dio, but out of the 2 Ozzy is the man
Wu Tang Killa Bee's, We On The Storm.

I'd really not prefer to pick over the two, as both are legends in their own respects, but, if I were pushed, I'd go with Dio, but for broader reasons than just their respective solo careers.
Ozzy, it's true, is a legend--he's part of what made the Metal genre emerge, and his music is truly legendary, so for that alone he gets credit. And while his voice may not be what it once was, he's still entertaining, and truly a showman for the ages.
Dio, however, takes the cake as one of my favourite vocalists in the realm of Rock/Metal music, but that's not even particularly because of his solo stuff with his self-titled band. For the record, Heaven and Hell is one of my top three Black Sabbath albums (along with Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Master of Reality), but a lot of people don't realise Dio's got an enormous and very versatile career as a singer. Some of my favourite Dio stuff is pre-Sabbath when he was the vocalist for Ritchie Blackmore's group Rainbow. Listening to those albums is truly something any fan of Hard Rock or Metal needs to do at some point, as the powerhouse lineup of Ritchie Blackmore, Ronnie James Dio, and an assortment of other artists like Cozy Powell makes it truly a great listen.
Also, even more obscure is the band he started up before that, Elf, which has much more of a Blues-Rock based feel to it, and it's really a different experience, as it gives Dio fans a chance to hear him sing about things other than fantasy worlds of Dragons and Rainbows. I have two of their three albums, and that, too, ranks up there as some of the most listened to Rock I own (and trust me, there's a lot of it)
For real kicks, though, is the stuff he recorded in the 50s and 60s, when he and his band members cover classic Rock and Roll songs like "Great Balls of Fire" and the like. Oh, and hearing him tackle "War Pigs" as a cover is truly ironic, given that he'd go on to actually join Sabbath.
And to close, Dio's voice still incredibly powerful. Listening to his live album he released with the other Sabbath members from last March truly showed that he can still sing circles around younger Metal singers, but I think I've ranted far too much now, so I'll stop there.
Dio.
Ozzy was great in Black Sabbath, but he hasn't put vocals down on a decent album since Randy Rhoads died, and those 2 albums didn't hold a spot on his worst albums with Sabbath anyway. Also, I really cannot comprehend the choice of musicians Ozzy has made in the recent years. Musicians like Rob Trujillo, Rob Blasko and Mike Bordin are badly suited to playing this style of music and Zakk Wylde has yet to realise that pinch harmonics have been annoying since about 20 seconds after Carcass used them.
Dio on the other hand, has always had quality musicians in his band, and always musicians that suited the style of music that he wanted to play. I will admit that he has made plenty of not so good albums as well, but even relatively late in his carreer he has still put out quality stuff like Lock Up The Wolves and Strange Highways.
I would have to say Dio, I haven't heard much of either but Dio's all epic and awesome. Plus I cant go a drinking session without hearing some Dio.

Well it depends. Both of them are great singers but nobody can sound like Ozzy. Even if you hate his voice or find him weak on live shows. Nobody sounds like him. Dio has a strong voice. Very strong. But its not as unique as Ozzy's voice in my opinion. Is it better? Thats opinion too and I like them both and take them for their differences.
As for solo careers. I have only just recently got into Dio. I have all of Ozzy's albums and have listened to them over and over. And while Ozzy may or may not write all of the lyrics to his songs I sometimes find whatever he is singing about to matter to me more than what Dio sings about (so far).
Black Sabbath? Black Sabbath without Ozzy Osbourne isn't what I like to call Black Sabbath. Ozzy's voice meant as much to the original sound of that band as Tony Iommi's guitar. Bill Ward's drums and Geezer Butler's bass lines.
Was Black Sabbath with Dio good? Yes. But the sound did change. I have the 4 albums of Black Sabbath with Dio (Heaven and Hell. Mob Rules. Live Evil. Dehumanizer) and I even have the Heaven and Hell the devil you know album. It was a different sound for Sabbath that wasn't the sound the whole band had with Ozzy. It was good. I like it. But it isn't comparable to me.
Dio can hit notes Ozzy can't so I give him creds for that too. Like I said I like them both but. I just am more in tune with Ozzy I guess. His songs mean more to me than Dio's do (from what I have listened to of my collection) but that doesn't mean I don't respect Dio. He has a different voice and sings about different stuff.
I guess I do vote Ozzy though.
As far as vocal talent goes, Dio wins every time. The guy has such strong vocals, and is one of the most recognisable vocalists you will ever come across.
However, I enjoy Ozzy's music far more. Again, he has a very distinct vocal style. But his lyrics are better, because they are mixture of things, rather than elves and whatnot.
If you go by their times in Sabbath, again Ozzy's music sticks out in my mind more than Dio's. Songs like A National Acrobat, Iron Man, Sweet Leaf etc are all classic rock/metal in my opinion. I always thought the Dio era of Sabbath had more forgettable songs than Ozzy's.
So as far as everything goes, Ozzy takes it for me.
First off I think that Dio is a far superior vocalist than Ozzy is. Ozzy is good, but Dio does it for me... Rainbow in the dark is on my top ten list of favorite songs...
This is basically how I feel but you got to the point faster. Black Sabbath Dio was good but not very many of the songs really stuck in your head in a classic way. I liked all the Sabbath albums with Ozzy. Even the last two that most people hate. I think Never Say Die! is one of the most underated BS albums.
But then again I also think Black Rain is one of Ozzy's best solo albums in a long time so maybe my opinion is flawed because a lot of people I talk to think that album is junk >.< But its heavy. I think the heaviest since No Rest for the Wicked which is also one of my favorite albums by Ozzy.
Dio can actually write songs, not to mention that he's a much better singer than Ozzy could ever hope to be. Heaven and Hell Sabbath rules over Ozzy Sabbath with an iron fist.
No competition. Ozzy wins hands down in the solo career stakes as well as black sabbath. Ozzy had Randy f*cking Rhodes(RIP) behind him for two albums and over two albums he became one of the greatest guitarists ever(listen to the solo on "flying high again", mindblowing stuff). When it comes to musicians behind them, Dio hasnt a chance. Granted Ozzys voice wasnt great during his solo days but listen to early sabbath( especially NIB or warpigs) and youll see he could compete with Dio at his best.

^ Competition over. Ozzy does not impress.

As much as I like Ozzy, it was really Randy Rhoades that made most of his solo stuff epic. Dio made Dio epic. Nuff' said.
