Neil Diamond: "The Jewish Elvis"
(That's a title my brother gave him.) How do y'all feel about him? Probably not strongly; I know there are a lot of metalheads on these boards My parents have gotten me listening to him, however. And my brother, for that matter (anything my brother listens to automatically has a 75% higher chance of being cool to me.) But yeah; on family trips during highschool and college, my mom would usually choose to listen to his "Essential" collection, and I decided I really liked a lot of those songs. Particularly songs like "Solitary Man," "Kentucky Woman," "You Got To Me" of his older stuff, and "Soolaimon," "America," and "Headed For the Future" (gotta love the cheesy 80's futuristic keyboard effects in "Headed For the Future," ha) for his newer stuff.
I also bought his newest album when it came out last year. It's all accoustic-no drums-and I wasn't as into it at first. Then I started listening to it at work, though, and it grew on me a lot. A lot of it sounds like his older songs, though. He has written a lot of music, after all. Probably my favorite song on that album is "Don't Go There," I think it's called (especially his ornery old man laugh in the middle, heh.) Anyhoo...
