I like Avenged Sevenfold for something that's melodic and hard, or some older Metallica, can't go wrong there.
I have an extreme bias against screaming bands. If your singer can't SING the lyrics, I will not listen to you, no matter how awesome I think your double bass is or how fast the guitar riffs. If I wanted to hear noise and screaming, I'd go outside during the summer, if I wanted to hear good music and screaming, I'd just play acoustic music at work during service...
Some of these incorporate metalcore into their music, but aren't fully metalcore. I'll put a * behind the bands that are fully metalcore.

Death Metal
Black Metal
Blackened Death Metal
Melodic Death Metal
Doom Metal
So I haven't really been looking into too many Metalcore bands. If you ever start to get into those types of metal, just leave a message on my profile, and I'll give you some good names to start with.
