The live scene in your area

This question kinda asks, near your area, what kind of bands go and play live near you, are they good bands/bad bands/well-known/etc.? I'll start first.

I live in the Northwest part of Iowa, so I get to see almost no shows live at all. There are a few areas for me to go to, like Omaha Nebraska, Des Moines Iowa, and even Kansas City, but thats stretching it out quite a bit. Anywho, some of the bands that come up are like some from the Honda Civic tour, like Phantom Planet, Motion City Soundtrack, Panic! at the Disco, etc etc. Just a few months ago we had 3 Days Grace/Breaking Benjamin in my hometown which turned out to be an awesome concert. Also, Snoop Dogg, 311, and POD came up to Omaha during the summer to play, which I heard was another good show. But yeah the main thing for me is that there are usually good live shows available, the whole problem is I have to travel hours at a time to find a good show.

    How about you guys?

Then again this one is kind of on the outs with me if she doesn't straighten up and fly right so that means I will be back in it for the thrill of the kill. Got some in the reserves. Even got a rePETEr (<---- like that ay? AYYYYY?) on the back burner.

Block: I do like the rePETEr except it kinda makes it sound like you're going to pork Pete. No homo.

Erm... My area is dead when it comes to bands playing and stuff. The pub around the corner called The Macbeth (the place Amy Wineo's boyfriend attacked the bar owner who was nice to me... grrr) used to have lots of cover bands. Some of it was really good, but often it was too loud to work out which song they were singing. Also, they were cover bands... -_-

Just down the road is Old Street, and I know there are a few, off the "drag" (main road) clubs, but I heard they are really yuppified and... weird to be around. They have either cover bands, or really weird real bands...

Erm... this is a little of a treck, but if I get the bus to Dalston Tube Station, I can get a train to Camden. Pretty much everything happens up there. Lots of "tiny" places where the gigs happen. I heard that some place called Underworld was the best, but I've never been.

If I feel like dishing out a little more dosh, I could get a train to the O2 Arena, but thats further than Camden.

So... yeah, my actual NEAR area is dead when it comes to that.

Nothing I like ever comes here. East Coast Canada.

The local live scene is terrible. It's just a bunch of emo/scene bands made up of high school kids with stupid names that they think are "deep".

    Well.

In terms of big acts, there is plenty to do here. There is one theater in my town, which has some big acts, but mostly comedians and older acts. Orlando is an hour away, and they have all sorts of acts. The Amway Arena has huge acts, Hard Rock Live and House of Blues has national acts, and the Social and Backbooth have indie acts.

Both my town and Orlando have a large local scene, which I am a large part of. It has become very metal lately, unfortunately.

meh, I have to travel an hour to see any good bands. Only been to two, well three concerts around these parts (eastern NC).

One was to see Puddle of Mudd, Finger Eleven and Nickelback. I'm not a Nickelback fan, but hell if they can't put on a good show. (If my memory serves me, their pyro guy, was also the pyro guy for Pantera!)

and the other was to see Black Stone Cherry, Hinder, Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace, and Staind. That was one HELL OF A SHOW!

My third concert was "winter metalfest" in January of 2007. Went mainly to see a soemwhat local band (from 2 hours or so away, and they're awesome) called The Fifth. They have a sort of grungy sound, so I was surprised to see them.

But yeah, not much goes on here. Though I'm going to see Sevendust with The Fifth, next month, if my mom can get off, because she really likes The Fifth, and I love Sevendust.

and in October, I'll be going to see Buckethead, the famous Guitar Virtuoso, known for such tracks as Soothsayer, Jordan, Nottingham Lace, and so many better ones.

There are actually alot of big bands and big events that come through Tulsa. I have seen N.I.N, P.O.D., Primus, evenesence, Green Day, Pantera, Gravity Kills, Poe, Stabbing Westward, Limp Bizkit, Tool, and many more with in the last 8 or so years. Plus there is still the Edge B-day show, Rocklahoma, and other tours that have originated or come here.
Also OKC is only an hour and a half away (if not less) and they have some pretty huge bands that go through there.

The local scene here is great too, you would be suprised at what a "bunch of hicks" can do. Almost any bar that is worth going to here has live bands at least once a weekend if not a different band every night of the weekend. Now given there are bands that uck that some how make it into those places, the scene here is actually really strong. I have always been pleased with the locals.

There have been alot of big names come out of Oklahoma haha, for instance Hinder, Billy Joe from green day is from norman, and who could forget Garth Brooks haha (yeah I went there ba-booosh-ka!).

Local radio station does a thing every year, sometimes twice, called Pointfest. Maybe a third of the bands are worth going to see, the rest are terribad emo ****s, including a majority of the local bands they have play there.

As far as my actual local scene, it's 90% emo bullshit, and all the good bands either break up or go emo when they're signed. Case in point: Story of the Year. They used to suck, but not as bad as they do now after they were signed and COMPLETELY changed their sound (i.e. sold out)

Best band to ever come out of my area (St. Louis, Missouri): The Urge, an amazing ska band that split in 2004. Back in '96 they did a song that featured Nick Hexum of 311 called Jump Right In. Youtube that shit if you're into ska, but on their 3rd album all hints of ska faded and they more or less became alternative rock, then later split.

Edit: Should've mentioned this, the "biggest names" to come out of my city are Nelly, a few other rappers, and the St. Lunatics who did that ****ing air force ones Nike song.
