Led Zeppelin - arguably the biggest rock phenomenon ever... and yet there iss no thread about them?! Famous for such songs as 'Stairway to Heaven', 'Communication Breakdown', 'Dazed and Confused', and many, many more.
The members were: Robert Plant (vocals), Jimmy Page (guitar), John Bonham (AKA 'Bonzo' or 'The Beast') (drums), and John Paul Jones (rhythm guitar, bass, keyboard, and a LOT of other instruments). Planty was a young, barefoot, hippy blues singer when he met Page, of Jeff Beck's The Yardbirds fame. Page already knew Jones from his time as a session guitarist, and Jones introduced Bonzo to the mix. They said they played once, in a basement, just improvising around each other... and knew they were on to something.
Despite being a UK band, Led Zep hit it big in the USA. They quickly made themselves known for rock n roll hotel ruckus. Bonzo is the KING of throwing sh*t out of hotel windows. All others since have been taking page upon page from his infamous book.
The band has been accused of being Satanic, but the only member who generated such suspicions was Page, who openly dabbled in the occult. Listening to Plant's uplifting lyrics, filled with hippy lines and imagery, it's hard to see anything Satanic about them, but even Page admits he took the occult too far, possibly "putting the band at risk".
Led Zeppelin is my favourite band, hands down, and I want to know what you guys think of them. Keep in mind this is the first thread I've started:
What do you think of Led Zep?
Well, I think I've made that abundantly clear
What's your favourite Zep song?
No Quarter. An electric, relatively obscure Zeppelin song, that was arranged by Jones. I like all the classic hits as well as the song Night Flight. Basically anything with Plant at his bluesy best, with lots of rhythm from Jones and Bonzo.
Who was (is) your favourite member?
Robert Plant, easily. I've even got his new country records that he's doing with Alison Krauss. Jones is second equal with Bonzo. Together they form an unbeatable rhythm section... Bonzo's double bass drums were banned by Page after he made such an intense beat that Page could not keep up. He sneaked them in a few songs later down the road, and they remain a true wonder of the world.
