    Flight of the Conchords

Also known as New Zealand's fourth most popular folk-parody duo, FOTC are a folk-comedy two piece composed of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement. Their comedy and music became part of a BBC radio series, and then two seasons on American television (HBO, I believe), which began in 2007.

For a sample of who they are, check out this video, and other related videos that come up: YouTube - Flight of the Conchords- Business Time

I like FOTC, and it's not just a little bit of self-righteous nationalism; I think they're legitimately funny, and their music is great. I was disappointed to hear that each episode in the second season of their HBO show had fewer and fewer viewers. If you haven't seen this show, it's about these two small-time musicians (Bret and Jemaine, obviously), who have traveled to the Big Apple to try and make it big. Their (fictional) band manager, Murray, who works for the New Zealand consulate, tries counter-productively to get them to the top, and the results are hilarious. They incorporate their music into the show, periodically breaking into songs that relate to the situation at hand.

If you think FOTC are great, seeing them live is even greater. I've seen a show by the pair, as well as a stand-up routine by Arj Barker ('Dave' in the show), and I've exchanged pleasantries with Rhys Darby (Murray) at a Greenpeace rally (along with Keisha Castle-Hughes (Whale Rider) and Lucy Lawless (Xena Warrior Princess)).

If you don't get their accents and humour, this may explain it:

Surprisingly, given their success outside of New Zealand, Bret and Jemaine are rumoured to have had project proposals continually denied funding by New Zealand public television. As Brannavan Gnanalingam notes in The Lumiere Reader, rumour has it that NZ TV3 denied funding because Bret and Jemaine's humour was deemed "too Wellington", meaning their humour would not work with the average New Zealander outside the nation's capital.
In other words, I sound like these guys, and this humour is all around me. I'm not sure if you'll get it, but meh, I think they're great.

I love these guys. The first song I heard was Business Time and I absolutely fell in love with them. I really enjoy their humor, reminds me of me and my best friend. My current favorite has to be "If You're Into It" from episode 4.

YouTube - Flight of the Conchords Ep 4 If You're Into It

They have so many good songs though. Aside from "Business Time" and "If You're Into It", there's "Too Many Mutha Uckas" (which I quote regularly throughout almost every day), "She's So Hot Boom"...etc. BTW I have to provide a link to that last one: YouTube - She's So Hot Boom - Flight of the Conchords .

Funny, when they explained where they got the instrument from I first thought they said they got it from "a porn shop in the future", but later realized they said "pawn shop". I love the accent, though.

Flight of the Conchords is terrific, and though I think the second series wasn't quite as good in terms of plotlines, the songs were still excellent. Plus it was nice to see some of the supporting characters get a moment in an episode or a song.

My favourites of theirs are Robots (which reduced me to tears of laughter when I first saw it), Frodo Don't Wear the Ring, Sugarlumps and Too Many Dicks on the Dancefloor.
"Excuse me Miss, do you like pineapple?"

"I don't want to achieve immortality through my work, I want to achieve it through not dying"

The show was a little bit too dry and derivative, but they are a funny enough duo. Murray, of course, was the greatest thing about the show, and really the only fully fleshed out character in the lot. He needs his own spinoff show now that new episodes are not being produced.

The only reason I've ever even heard of Flight of the Conchords is because I apparently look like the guy with the glasses in the band. I've heard this from multiple people that I've never met before too, it's kinda wierd, lol.

Meier: Hey Pete, I said I started to, it just didn't end the with the same number of women. Then again this one is kind of on the outs with me if she doesn't straighten up and fly right so that means I will be back in it for the thrill of the kill. Got some in the reserves. Even got a rePETEr (<---- like that ay? AYYYYY?) on the back burner.

Block: I do like the rePETEr except it kinda makes it sound like you're going to pork Pete. No homo.

You really don't look like him at all, Rocky. At least from the pics I've seen of you. A lot of women associate him with hot so I'm sure they just mean that you're really hot, Rocky. Which you are. PM me sometime and maybe we can get somethin goin, baby .

FOTC are swell fellas. Their first season was much stronger than the second... and then they got cancelled.

Uh.. my favourite song is probably Brett, you've got it goin' on... Fun time parties.
