    Britney Spears

    After what we all thought was a failure never to be recovered from, Britney Spears seems to be making the comeback of a lifetime. With her new album "Circus" only recently released, the albums track "If You Seek Amy" has already caused some controversy with its suggesetive lyrics and blatant disregard for moral ethics.

    Nah, I'm just kidding ya, I love the song. But, seriously, why are so many people pissed off about "If You Seek Amy" when there are so many artists talking about sex? Lil Wayne's "Lollipop", Flo Rida "Right Round", nobody cares about what THEY talk/sing/rap about, because they're black rap artists. However, if a pop princess like our lil BritBrit wants to spell things out in a creative way, she's slammed by the media and the public. So, what I wanna know is your thoughts/opinions on this.

    PS. Not sure if this belongs here or in Intellectual discussion, feel free to move if necessary.

    Well I have not heard this song at all, not that I am hermit or anything but I just don't listen to the radio that offten.

    But apparently the words of the song have been mistranslated by listeners. Younger listeners at that, meaning small children. I had to dig a little on this one to find out why everyone is so out raged but here is the gist of what I found.

    If you take the sone title: If You Seek Amy and you highlight how it is sang you get if you seek ame. Apparently this would be why there is an uproar amonst parents. There has even been radio edits and parental controaled rereleases of the song where they have taken the "k" out of the word "seek" to help reduce the resemblence to the profane mistranslation.

    Now in honesty is this really a mistranslation? By reading the lyrics I would say not. The song makes absolutly no sence if you read it as "if you seek Amy" but if you read it derogativly it makes alot more sence.

    That's because it's meant to be derogatory. I think the song should be called F-U-C-K Me.
    Because that's how you would say it if you said "If you Seek Amy"... So yeah. It's not the media's fault this time.

    Britney titled the song like that on purpose. ...Kinky. >_>;

    ...I like it, even if it means all the boys and all the girls are begging to if you seek a-her. I'm just surprised it took the rest of the public so long to realize that was what she was singing. The anger didn't really pop up until recently, which is just kind of funny since the song and album have been out for a while.

    There are other pop songs out there that make references to smex and all that fun stuff too. No names come to mind right away, but I remember quite a few on the radio throughout the week. The song itself is about an actually girl named Amy, so it's pretty creative. Plus, if parents are so freaked about their kids hearing veiled profanity or suggestive lyrics, they shouldn't be letting them listen to the radio at all. And if the kid is young enough, they won't understand the meaning anyway. They'll follow the story Spears set up about the girl in the club. This one song isn't such a big deal.

    Yay that honestly adds nothing to this conversation, and could be seen as an act of trolling, I like you already.

    Lets take a look at this scinario, Britany is aledagadly the pop princess and has been for years,, her songs have hinted at sex and other inuendos but never have they been so nonscelaunt.

    Now as I said she has been the princess for years, many to be exact. Now look at the mothers of these children and the age of the children theirselves. These parents where Brit fans when she first came to the scene, more then likely they went to Halloween parties dressed up as her and had her pictures hanging on their walls.

    They have an image in their heads of how she used to be, quit obviously even the tabloids want her to be her old self again. And these parents are still probably thinking that she is the same person she was 10 years ago. So they let their children listen to the songs not knowing the true simplistic meanings behind the lyrics and their children depict the sounds they hear and repeat them. It is actually quit simple, kids are going to repeat what they hear, my 2 year old does it all the time. That is where the issue comes into play.

    Have you listened to any radio station that plays pop culturesk music, this song is played all of the time. Kind of like how Nirvana and Metallica are still over played on rock stations like they are the newest and greatest things. Watch TV, the song is plastered on MTV, VH1 and other crap chanels like that. Even on the net the song can be heard. So children of all ages have access to this crap and very easy access at that. I can probably go to myspace right now and find 10000 profiles that have that specific song as their profile selection.
    Plus by the actual lyrics of this song, there is no fowl language to it, just a subliminal message and as far as I know that is still not illegal to put in songs.

    Actually.. she's quite talented, and I rather enjoy the "new" britney, and really enjoy the song. Sure, I liked the old britney also, but I like this one a lot more because I can relate a lot better with her songs.

    And no, she didn't mime. You're thinking of Ashlee Simpson. >_>;

    She, like everyone else that's in a band that is currently played on, or at one point in time within the past 5 years played on, MTV, should just diaf.

    What she "creates" isn't music, and the same can be said of everyone else of this terribad genre of popular bullshit that the kiddies eat up.

    Linkin park are pop, and you could have atleast put some effort into the spelling of your username nevermind the creativity, now get out.

    Britney spears is a talentless piece of crap, she cant sing and never has tried outside a recording studio, she cant play any instrument, she cant write her own lyrics, compose her own songs or even hold herself together. Shes a ****in mess, and should be flushed down the toilet like the useless turd that she is..

    You wanna hear Britneys new album? throw two stray cats into a trash can and seal the lid and start listening, cause thats as good as it gets.

    Oh and you can relate to Britney spears lyrics? of course you can you dope, your her target audience, the reason shes still clinging on to the masses rectum like the annoying sticky turd that she is.. Fall you bitch! FALL!!! So i can wipe my ass and surf my tv channels again without bursting a vain in my head every time i still see you hanging on!!!

    Okay, this isn't an important fact, but I thought it would be fun to tell you I was a Britney fan when I was younger too. I even followed her dance routines on TV and had a huge poster of her in my room. Had nothing really to do with the discussion, but the memories made me laugh.

    Now to be serious. I know she changed a whole lot in ten years, but who doesn't? She was what, 17 years old back then, and was a different person. Generic pop has changed, and I guess her interpretation of the change was a bit over the top. I still listen to Britney because her style changed around the same time I grew up, and fit with the fact that it was almost okay for me to kind of understand half the things she sang and sings about. I understand how this song could be a problem to younger kids, but I don't think this is the only song that should be causing worry to parents.

    For example, Meier, I bet you take good care of what your son watches and hears to make sure he doesn't learn anything he's not supposed to. You probably don't blast the pop and R&B stations when he's strapped into the baby seat in the back of the car. You probably don't even listen to the radio at all in case you miss him crying or something. You probably make sure he only watches PBS or some kid channel, when you do let him watch TV.

    Now Meier, if other parents who are so outraged by Britney's song did the same thing, or were more careful with their kids, there wouldn't be any problem. I listen to the radio and watch TV, but I only come across songs like that on certain channels. I'm pretty sure if they stuck with STAR98.7 like I do, they'd only hear Maroon 5, Bowling for Soup, and Blue October too. Plus, if they were good parents, they wouldn't be letting their kids absorb all the homely, informative, and heart-warming things MTV showed anyway.

    It's not like someone can say, "I let my kid listen to stations that put out songs like this all the time, watch channels that allow for songs with content like that, and let him/her do whatever he/she wants on the internet, but don't appreciate it when they hear something inappropriate." That's just sad. I'm not bagging on anyone in particular, but these people should know how to handle their kid, if they want the kid to be handled a certain way.

    I personally like the song. It's currently got a play count of 15 on my Itunes list, and it's pretty catchy, so I'm listening to it right now. It doesn't bother me eve half as much as the other crap I hear blaring out of windows of cars in the student parking lot, so whatever.
