Damn, Cesar. How in the world can you decide what to play when you're playing 50 different games? Crazy man.

I love how everyone seems to come out of the woodwork simultaneously and then disappear right afterwards. You guys suck.

Completely ignoring the thread for a month is much easier than saying "no, you can't join". This is a good policy, guys.

Anyways: BUMP! Because I'm bored. Which of course means that I'm not really playing anything right now. I'm waiting for Uncharted 2 and don't want to start anything until then because I know I'll forget whatever it is I'm doing when that comes out. It looks godly.

There's another reason I'm not gaming though and it will deteriorate into a rant. I bought a PSP Go. Friends, don't be like me. Don't buy a PSP Go. Or if you do, at least be like me enough to buy it somewhere that has a 30 day return policy, because DAMN, did Sony ever **** this up. Looking past the fact that the lack of any UMD transfer plan is a big slap in the testicles to all current PSP owners, and the absolutely mind boggling $250 price tag, Sony has no intention of properly supporting this console. Last week, when it came out, I was ecstatic that something like 95 PSP games were uploaded to the Playstation Network. At least I was until I got there to see which ones they were. Where the hell is Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops? Where in the unholy mother of **** is Dissidia, Crisis Core or Final Fantasy Tactics? Aside from first and second party Sony games (and, to be fair, EA, Activision, Capcom and Nippon Ichi), the store was filled with utter crap. Oh, but I thought, surely next week they'll complete or at least expand the offering of PSP games. Oh they sure did. Today we got two whole PSP games, both of which are NBA games. WOW. I emailed both Konami and Square-Enix and got the same response from both of them, that they have no information for me regarding whether their back catalog of PSP games will be uploaded or not. We've all dealt with customer service before; that means no. Also, I recently learned that Sega has not yet confirmed Valkyria Chronicles 2 for digital download. They confirmed it for UMD, but not digital; why would they do that unless there is no guarantee that Sega (and therefore all third party publishers) intends to universally support the digital distribution method which means that there is no guarantee that all PSP games in the future will available to PSP Go users. So way to go, Sony. You've created a digital distribution only device when apparently even publishers aren't ready to fully take that leap, sell it to us for $80 more than the PSP already available (which is fully capable of playing downloaded games btw, it's just a bigger hassle having to deal with memory sticks instead of flash memory), offer absolutely no incentive for current PSP owners to upgrade and even manage to offer a smaller library of games than that which is available for older PSP models. And congratulations on having idiots like me around who will buy it. But this idiot still has his recite, you pocket lining, wheel greasing highway bandits!

    /Rant.

    I needed to post that.

    It's how we roll bro~

And thanks for the heads up, that's pretty ****ed :\ for a price-tag like that you would think they would toss some effort into it (then again I cant really talk, I keep saying to myself get a DS/PSP get a DS/PSP but I never take the time off to go cruise past a EB shop). I hooked up with a new computer rig tho week before last and its a fricken beast - albeit from lagging when it shouldnt, for that I dont understand with such a badass video card (ATI Radeon HD 4670) that there is any form of remote lag in ANY of my games.. been grinding Supreme Commander : Forged Alliance, awesome rts. :3

    I'm gonna just pretend like I belong. >_>;;;;;

I enjoyed that rant on the PSP Go. I never liked the idea of a digital download-only game system in the first place, this just puts my mind to rest. I'm broke as poo right now, but sometime after Christmas I plan to buy a PS3 for myself, or maybe update my 360 library, or... something. Debating polishing off my FFIII (VI) cartridge and playing it this weekend, buuuut I never actually beat II (IV) or even played the cartridge I own (played it via the GBA) so... yeah.

The old school FF bug has bitten me, though.

CP: Just got Prince of Persia for the 360, firing it up tomorrow, and soon to play either my II or III SNES Cart, when I decide which, also playing Kingdom Hearts for 2-3 hours a week whilst my girlfriend watches, since she's a Disney freak and I never played more than 10 hours of it.

Edit: Actually, what do you (whoever is reading this) think is better for playing FFIV. The GBA Cart or the originally released SNES Cart? I'm not sure if any story-telling elements were changed between the two, or if sounds, etc, were enhanced any.

I'm not so much down on the idea of digital distribution itself, just Sony's piss-poor way of going about it. Home consoles is one thing, but for a portable system, I think digital distribution really makes sense. But really, 16 gigs isn't quite enough. If Sony comes out with a 32 gig PSP Go that doesn't suck, maybe I'll try it again.

At any rate, anyone that has a PS3 owes it to themselves to get Uncharted 2. I can quite honestly say, without hyperbole, that it is the best game I have played this entire console generation and it sets a new standard that I will be measuring all other games against from here on out. Simply amazing.

I have to say on the matter of FFIV, I have completely in chaotic love with my buying of the DS version. Between the beautiful cinematics (which the ONLY complaint I have on them is the lack there-of) and the voice-acting, which is some of the best I've heard in quite some time (especially for a portable system), there's no reason not to love this version, tho the pronunciation of Cecil's name (Sessil, instead of Seesil, as it were) grates on my nerves, but eh, that's my mistake I guess.

My only other gripe is that it wasn't made up to at least PS2 standard graphics, which I would've just sat and drooled over (considering what they managed to make FFXII look like at the time). And that's just me being a whiner. XD

Currently Playing: WoW, and still too much of it (yeah, I know, I always say that, and I said the SAME THING back when I was playing FFXI.)

Think I may go load up Mirror's Edge and run some more time trials in a few tho...assuming my fingers still know how to play it at all. XD

Considering my DS collection is kinda pitiful, not too many, tho Need for Speed: Pro Street was pretty close to first gen PS2 graphics. I just meant the graphics in general tho. I just wanna see FFIV beautifully remade in the kind of graphics we got in FFXII at the least. As much as I love my oldschool versions of it, and the DS remake, I gotta say, I think that game (and 6) both deserve remakes in full glorious current graphical detail much more-so than 7 does. ^_^

    Also, holy f'ckin sheeot batman, i'm doing something other than playing WoW. I'm typing on a second Mega Man X story in sequel to my first one. O_O Nevermind that I'm supposed to be asleep atm. <.<;;;;

I'd Like to Apply for this deliciously evil club

First off, I'm a big fan of the old school games. I love the new ones, but VI, IV, the original, are big time favorites of mine.

Now my qualifications for evilness include a fun past time a few close friends and I share where we get together and go down to a local tanning salon to alter their backlit sign. We spend an hour reorganizing the letters, so that instead of offering a buy one get one spa package, the salon suddenly forbids black people, or offers free anal sodomy for it's clients. I'll get you the exact quotes if you like. It's a fantastic time, and I highly recommend it. We hope to graduate to church signs soon.

I also enjoy some mild mistreatment of women. Not sure how graphic you like this, but I had a girl for a bit who thought she'd start to be controlling in the bedroom. She'd finish herself up and then look at me and tell me she was through as though that was just it, but after a time or two of this I grabbed her by the hair and proceeded to do some things she wasn't exactly comfortable with. Nothing too bad, but permission was not granted nor asked for.

I've also cheated on just one girl, and it was a girl who was absolutely in love with me. You see it was a long distance relationship, and she lived 4 hours away. Meanwhile I was in college and lived a few blocks away from a previous girlfriend who I'd always wanted one more shot at. For some reason my roomates liked watching porn with a group of people, and she was over one night. About 3 scenes in she drug me to the bedroom, and I wasn't passing this up. This went on for sometime after that. Quite frequently I'd sleep with my ex in the morning, she'd leave, my long distance girl would show up to spend the weekend and I'd sleep with her that night. Sometimes just a couple hours apart, and I didn't bother to shower in between. I thought it was hotter that way and definately evil. Good times.

Lastly I do enjoy watching horror. Saw, the original Chainsaw Massacre. Vampire novels thrill me. Death as a story focal point is, when they really get down and focus on the emotion of it, is quite facinating. Like the Joker said in the dark knight, if it's too quick, "you can't savor all of those little emotions." Wow that's evil.

So what do you say? Can I join?

    God I hope not.

This isn't the Brotherhood of Doom; you spent way too much effort on the evil thing and it makes you come off rather ridiculous. Plus you almost completely ignored the important point: old school gaming. 90% of the people on this forum enjoy old Final Fantasy games, it's a Final Fantasy forum. You have to demonstrate appreciation and familiarity with old school games outside of that series to belong here.

I vote no, but this isn't a democracy, so you'll have to wait for either Cesar or Dawezy to make the decision (an affirmative decision likely resulting in a test).

The DS is barely capable of PS1 graphics. It'd have to be a PSP title for that kind of remake and even then, it won't be to the level of FF12 (or FF10 for that matter). But I hear you. Remakes done well can be awesome. Everyone's allowed to be a graphics whore once in a while.

And you do whatever you have to to get clean of WoW. We're all pulling for you. I miss my Bisho Bot.

Hey, the DS is a LITTLE better than that. Not by very damned much admittedly, but hey, whatever works. XD But meh, I wouldn't count on that kind of graphics on any portable system really, cuz hell, if you're REALLY gonna prettify a game, you aren't gonna bother with portable limitations...which is a funny phrase now that I think about it.

But meh, I'm almost out of classes to level on WoW, got 7 of the 10 up to current max level. XD

Itching to play through ALL the Mega Man games tho for some reason...

@ Jin - Well I wasn't lying, and the mission statement included torrid sexual affairs as qualifications, so that's why I included them.

But hey, I genuinely love the old school games. It's close between VI and IV for me.

Kain may actually be my favorite character there due to his use as both a villian and hero throughout the game. He was powerful and actually my favorite of any Dragoon character, including Cid in VII and Freya in IX.

Cecil however is absolutely my favorite lead character. I love the epic nature of his quest and the destiny he has to achieve. No other lead character really matches the destiny that Cecil has of becoming a Paladin and fully redeeming himself. That was my favorite moment of the game, journeying into the moutain where he met the image of his father, and the next 10 hours of game play to relevel him up were fantastic.

Rydia likewise is an outstanding character. I don't think there's been anything other to match her. I felt very badly for her after she fell overboard fighting leviathon, and I didn't think she'd actually return. When she did it was this weird moment where I barely recognized her, and I thought at the time that would be exactly how I felt had I been there.

Polam and Porom's sacrafice while turning to stone to allow the others to escape was FF at it's best. It was mirrored later in 9 as they escaped the haunted forest, but that was an all time classic moment.

VI had many great spots as well. I think the gameplay is so unique that one. Obviously the characters are great, but the areas where they force you split up such as after meeting with the resistance and fleeing on the river, and again while entering Kefka's tower. Those are just great moments and I feel the best use of the entire party in any game. A game like that could wear you down with such a large cast, but in doing it the way they did, it really allows you to explore each character. That has never been matched in the modern genre. 7 comes the closest, but both 4 and 6 are vastly superior character games. Another example is during the opening scenes in the World of Ruin. You wake up as Celes and spend hours finding your party over again, one at a time. You always maintain the freedom to explore the world as you see fit and you really have to ask questions and find clues to determine who, where, and how you go about rescuing the rest of your party. And the option to save Spider or let him die is phenomenal. His backstory with Relm was my favorite, because it was deep, merely alluded to, and completely optional.

Kefka of course, was a brutal bastard. I loved it.

So I love the old school games. I laugh at evil deeds. I love the sprite characters and 16 bit graphics. I enjoy being devious. I love midi file music. I get excited at the opportunity to do something wrong. I am the ideal candidate for acceptance in this group.

Should I not be admited. I will burn your group down!! :-)

    Run along Locke4God~

I think you would find the BoD better suited, albeit from their lack of discussion in direct regards to old-school and gaming in general.

    Nothin personal bro :3

Hey Jin, been a while since I asked since its kinda passed me by (chances are the memory has been erased by alcohol) - what was it that made ye dislike Elder Scrolls 4 : Oblivion? I played a fair share of Elder Scrolls 3 at the same time as purchasing the GotY pack with a few titles on the same DVD. They really dont share the same groove and Oblivion looks so much moar pretty o_o

    Examples;

    http://www.dawezy.com/random/OblivionPurdy.png
    http://www.dawezy.com/random/KnightsNine01.png
    http://www.dawezy.com/random/KnightsNine02.png

    http://www.dawezy.com/random/ShiveringIsles02.png
    http://www.dawezy.com/random/ShiveringIsles03.png

In more recent news, work has been fricken brutal over the last few weeks but I have been given a few days off, so I'm lapping it up since I restocked my Dr Pepper / Beer / Rum / Doritos supplies. Wouldnt surprise me if I put on some weight after this lazefest lol, over the last few days tho I have been in peril!

    Share you thoughts dear sirs;

This new computer setup I purchase purrs like a sexy beast, uber fast, no games lag anymore - but I stumbled upon a small hiccup, tho it has no direct implication on my computer in general its a mf'in pain to try figure out. You are all aware of regional coding for dvds yeah? all the stuff in Australia is "Region 4 / PAL" as opposed to the US "Region 1 / NTSC" business.. NOW! Windows grants you limited options to temporarily change the region codes to be able to play other stuff, so in order to play a few movies I got (Postal, being the main attraction) I changed the Region over to 1.. played fine, so I left it on Region 1 and it has been the same for about 2~3 weeks now. But only last night, I had the itch to toss in another DVD and watch it (Watchmen, go grab a copy its a awesome flick) so I changed the Region back to 4 since it was a local DVD.

    ...it doesnt play.

It like, loads up for about a second and bam, stops loading entirely.

So I grabbed the old DVD from my other computer, I have consistantly changed the region on that old thing with no errors - set it to Region 4 to play Watchmen.

    ...doesnt play.

    Wtf.

Now I dont mind spending a bit of cash to get a shiney new DVD drive, but the point is that I *shouldnt* have to - you guys had any sort of simular issues? I've read up on it all and its encoded at a hardware level so I cant tinker with any software to try make a difference.

    /sigh

CP: Hentai, too much of it.

    Oh.. and FFXI.

Dawezy - Hey thanks for the reply, and I appreciate the consideration. In one last appeal and then I'll leave, but I wrote the first request because I genuinely thought you were interested in talking about some questionable activity. It's cool if that's not the deal, and that's why I wrote the second appeal, and I think I'm better than averagely versed in most of the old school games. If you still say no however, I'm down, but I would request a slightly more detailed response as to why I may be disqualified.

PS: I'm an orphaned half Cherokee Indian, half black, half Cuban lezbian woman, an illegal immigrant with several debilitating conditions who works part time at a minimum wage job with no benefits and takes care of 5 illegitimate children as a single mother with no high school education who grew up in a disadvantaged home surving on food stamps, and I will sue you for discrimination if you don't let me in.

    JK! :-)

I don't dislike Oblivion. Hell, I put 40-60 hours into it despite my PC's attempts to make it difficult. I just liked Morrowind a lot better. Oblivion is pretty from a technical standpoint, I'll give you that, but I found the world boring. Everything looked the same. With the exceptions of there being snow in the north and swamps in the very south east corner, everything looked exactly the same. In Morrowind, just by looking at the topography and the flora/fauna, I could tell exactly which region I was in.

Also, there is less customization in Oblivion. In Morrowind, you bought each piece of armour individually. Shoulders, body, legs, feet, arms, head, etc. This allowed you to mix and match different pieces to make some truly awesome looking characters. A friend of mine made an Orc Berserker using a different piece of armour for each body part and he looked fantastic. In Oblivion, all you do is buy a suit of armour. Also, armour was more balanced in Morrowind. It was possible to go through the game with the earliest armour you find because although it was worse than later, better forms of armour, it wasn't to the point where you had to change if you wanted to survive. In Oblivion, you immediately know what armour you're going to end with based on whether you choose light or heavy armour (and where's the medium armour in Oblivion?) because you have to progressively get improved armour to survive. If a weaker form of armour tickles your aesthetic fancy, too bad. Also, why no unarmoured ability? What if I want to make a monk that doesn't wear armour? I'm screwed.

Furthermore, there was just a lot more to do in Morrowind. You could join the standard Fighters', Mages' and Theifs' guild, but there were also a whole slew of other factions to join. The Temple, the Imperial Cult, the Morag Tong, House Hlaalu, House Redoran, House Telvaani, etc, etc.

And no spears! Wtf?! I like spears!

So in summary, I don't dislike Oblivion. I just think it was a step back, from a design perspective. /essay

As for your region problem, I really don't know what to say. Sounds odd. If it happened even on a drive you know works properly it leads me to believe there's something wrong with the disk, but I couldn't even speculate as to what.

    I have good news!

I went out and bought several 360 games!

    Now the bad news!

One hour into Dead Space I get the the RED RING OF DEATH!

So I had a choice of shipping it in for repairs or get a new one. I chose a new one but not any new system. I orderd the limited edition Modern Warfare 2 Console. The case is custom, 2 black controllers and a 250 gig HD. Sure beats my old system with the 20 gig. Now with this purchase Im poor again.

ZRO you finally started on the sequal to your megaman fic? What hs it been two years now since you finished it. Now I need to go back and reread the thing. Good luck on writting the sequal.

Have you guys notice the influx of video game movies that have been announced? Resident Evil, Prince of Persia, Bioshock, Gears of War, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, King of Fighters, Tomb Raider etc etc etc. These ones have been announced and are in production. I have had enough of bad video game movies, Silent Hill was atleast decent.

It's called sarcasm/a joke. Not to be taken literally. The obvious way to join is to have a love for old school gaming besides the Final Fantasy franchise. Heh.

But yeah... wow. What an asshole. It also clearly states not to post anymore once declined, and you keep posting anyway. Mind not doing so anymore? You're not getting in.

Sucks about your 360, Grim. Also sucks about the region thing, Dawez. I've never had that problem, as I don't really mess with different regions.

I don't watch many movies at all.

    Wow, speaking of assholes...

In any case, I've read recent posts and any opinions I have to give regarding all of your current events have already been stated by others, so I don't really see the point in reiterating such things. That said...

Dawezy, there's a Play'N'Trade across the street from my GameStop that has two cartridges of SNES US FFII... I'm thinking of picking one up, especially since it's only $25. Super freaking cheap, and it's the only cartridge I'm missing.

    DO IT

    Take a snap of it in action too, on here or Facebook. I'd be tempted to say, grab that second one and mail it over.. BUT.. I ney has a actual SNES console to call my own so it'd be a silly idea ^^;

Thanks for the essay aye Jin, memory shot ^_^ now to go grab some more beer and erase it again! Awesome.

It'll have to wait until the next payday. I've got $35 until next Friday. I split my paychecks into bill-check and free-check. Guess which one last week's was.

Yep, I'm still around. Been too busy finding stuff to do. Wait! DOES that make sense? Who cares?

I'm slowly whittling down my backlog of games. I'll buy a couple of cheap discounted games, but then focus on a big new title. SO instead of just doing a CP, I'll show what I'm working on AND what I have yet to play.

    PS2
Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal (3rd Game in the series)
    Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves

    PS3
    Lost Planet
    Uncharted 2
    Birds of Prey

    Wii
    Okami
    Dragon Quest Swords
MP3: Corruption (part of MP Trilogy, already beat 1 and 2)
    Zack and Wiki
    RE4
    DragonBlade
    Escape from Bug Island
    The Godfather
    FFIV TAY

    DS
    Scribblenauts
    Dragon Quest 4
Professor Layton and the Curious Village
    The World Ends with You

Okay of those. I'm borrowing Birds of Prey (PS3) from a coworker. I just now finished his copy of Ultimate Alliance 2, so I'd like to finish BoP and get that back to him ASAP. I'm also holding out on playing Uncharted 2 because I'm getting a new HDTV in a couple weeks and I'd really like UC2 to be one of my first gaming experiences on it (I've dabbled into the MP already though).

I'm currently playing Scribblenauts during Lunch Breaks at work (not a big Handheld gamer otherwise)

I have no idea what the hell kind of games Dragon Blade and Escape from Bug Island are. I got them from another coworker whose basically "Given Up" on the Wii completely.

I've played through bits of Godfather and FFIV TAY, but those games just seem to bore me after playing them a while.

So any game from that list I should start ASAP? Beating Metroid Prime 2 and Sly 2 was a blast, those games were fun and exciting to play, some of these other games I play feel like lukewarm, kinda enjoyable "chores"

    OKAMI.

Seriously, of everything on your list of Wii stuff (MP3 aside), it is easily the best thing there. Zack and Wiki is also an excellent title; it's like an old point-and-click adventure game, and it's fantastic.

The World Ends With You is definitely worthwhile, and as you probably already know, DQIV is generally accepted as the best in the series. Actually, there's nothing on your DS list that I'd say not to play, because all four games are amazing. Just stick with Scribblenauts for now and then decide whether you're in the mood for an RPG or puzzle game when you're done with it.

The Wii version of Resident Evil 4 has the quality of the GC version with the extra content from the PS2 version... and it's surprisingly fluid to play. Yes, it has waggle controls, but they work really well. The Wii version is definitely the best of the three consoles they released it on. Oddly enough, I also played The Godfather on the Wii and found it to be quite enjoyable. More fun to play than the 360/PS3 versions, honestly, even if it doesn't look quite as pretty.

I realize that The After Years is slow starting out, but it's actually pretty good overall. If it feels like a chore, just do it in small doses until the story and gameplay pick up.

You already made all relevant commentary regarding your PS3 choices. As for PS2, keep going with the Ratchet series. It's an excellent series (you could probably skip Deadlocked though), and you will DEFINITELY want to play the two on the PS3.

Haha.. I wouldn't really call myself an asshole, as it's part of the club rules that you can't post in a club if you're not a member. I could have worded it better, but at least I wasn't really vulgar about it.

I just picked up Dragon Age for the PS3 along with its strat guide. I created a character and picked the City Elf storyline. Playing as a Rogue.

    You're in for a treat.

I wish that I had more old school news to share, but it's so hard to do so in the midst of gaming season when all the awesome, new games are coming out. The closest I can even come at the moment is to express my absolute anticipation for the God of War collection later this month. While it's by no means old school, it's older...I guess. At any rate, the HD remastering looks amazing and I can't wait to add inches to my e-penis with the trophy support.

Other than that, the next game I'm looking forward to is Assassin's Creed 2. I wasn't a huge fan of the first one, but the second one looks amazing. You can hit a guy in the nads with a hammer. Sold!

As for right now, when I'm able to get away from university work, I'm continuing towards 100% completion in Uncharted 2. All I need is to beat it on crushing and I'm done. Woot for me. Also, I tried out the demo for Trine and it was pretty awesome. I'm not sure I want to spend $20 on it, given the slew of games about to come out, but I'll certainly pick it up at some point down the road.

Aye, not quite dead. Just been busy with life and such. You all know how that goes.

This past week I've come back alive on the gaming scene, almost exclusively on my 360 in some form. I love the Arcade there. Such classic gems...

    CP:

    Doom
    Worms
    Phantasy Star II
    Crystal Defender
Halo 3 (GASP! I know, I think the world might end because, after years of detesting Halo so much, I find I am ENJOYING it)
    Guitar Hero: Smash Hits
    Rock Band II
Final Fantasy XI on rare occasion
OLD SKOOL - A positive appellation referring to when things weren't flashy but empty of substance, were done by hard work, didn't pander to the lowest common denominator, and required real skill. Labour-saving devices, shortcuts that reduce quality and quitting before the task is done are not characteristics of "old skool."

In reference to computer games, refers to a game that had substantial playability without flashy graphics or eye candy. Old skool gamers appreciate difficult maneuvers, careful planning, and scorched earth policies.

In reference to role-playing games, old skool refers to games that tested players' wits, could kill off careless characters, and required dedication and inner strength to play. Old skool games didn't pander to the ideas that everyone is created equal, that all options are open to all races, that the markets were somehow free, and that a quasi-medieval society could have near 100% literacy.

    See also classic.

Cesar is dating Corey from ScrewAttack. I saw it with my own two eyes.

So I caved and bought Trine. It's really fun though, so hurrah. I can see it getting a bit repetitive after a while, but regardless, it's one of the better 2D platformers I've played in a long while. I recommend it to all, be it through PSN or Steam. It's not Shadow Complex good by any stretch, but good all the same.

Oh gods, I can't believe all the allignment-based clubs are gone... it's been so long... there should be a "Most Memorable Clubs" thread here, because those clubs made a big part of TFF back in the day.
I stopped seeking to be sought after. That wasn't being true to myself.
