Which is the greatest, VII or XII?

VII is the best game that has been made, XII got so many flaws it's not even funny.
For example the quickenings,summons and music was really bad most of the time, the license system and storyline was too short and the characters had no depth whatsoever and scenes,dialogue between them were not that many..

Vaan is the stupidest main-character i've ever seen in FF game, the only one that really sucked in the end. He wasn't 100% bad but still he kinda sucked. I don't even use him in battle except for stealing.
The only thing i like about this game is the battle system and the side-quests are alright at times.
So it's fun to fight and do missions, the storyline wasn't nearly as bad as Dissidia though, i have played XII over 600 hours, Dissidia under 10 when i stopped playing it months ago.

So comparing it to Dissidia would be alright in my opinion, XII definetly is the better one there, but the worst one in the series along with II.
Although II had a lot better music so yeah

To me, VII beats any other FF (apart from VIII). But that being said, I loved XII. Epic locations, great story and awesome characters. Balthier is probably one of my top 3 FF characters along with Squall and Sephiroth, but VII is a much more memorable game. The characters and the story are better in my opinion. The locations in XII are better though.

Everyone has basically said what I would say on this subject. What I'd say is that Final Fantasy XII is the least J-RPG-like game in the series. It's without any cheesiness, stereotypes, disproportioned characters etc.

It's quite a serious game, with a deep plot but with untapped potential.

I've never played FFVII, even though I bought it for my PSP (the first twenty minutes bored me so I stopped there x3), but Final Fantasy XII is one of my two favorites. (Yeah, ties now, because I think back on the other one.) Final Fantasy IX is the other. But anyway, I really enjoyed XII, I don't see why so many hate it.

Still, who knows, once I play XIII, I might change my mind again. x3

FFXII obviously beats FFVII.

While FFXII was incredibly boring and not very fun, it still beats FFVII in its cyber-punk blandness. (At least at the time of its release.)

But, I'd say both tie for a confusing/boring plot.

Kuja is my favourite villain all the way. He remains the only FF villain so far who accomplished what all villains want to do: blow shit up. (But seriously, he destroyed Terra in, like, 3 seconds. An entire world, gone in an instant. Something Kefka nearly accomplished, Exdeath had his sights on and what Sephiroth could only dream about.)

As for Kefka, he makes all clowns seem like badasses and the king of creepies.

O good for a sec I thought you thought kuja could get trumped(and he did all that with a single spell and in the end he ends up being a good guy but he's still such a badass) good you are sane.

HEEEEEEEEEEEEY!! I love Sephiroth!! He is my all time favorite ff character and villain! And no i'm not sarcastic! I really really love him! He's my toughest villain i've ever faced in ff7 and in both kingdom hearts game. If you think he isn't so great then why is he the only final fantasy villain in kingdom hearts?
.....anyway i'll say it again that i like ff7 better than ffxii; hated the system in ffxii got on my nerves and had a very hard time making money and really preferred they kept the same system as ffvii and had a whoole lot more games and stuff

VII chapter for sure...You can't compare the greatest of the episodes with XII...The party is amazing, all the characters have a reason to follow Cloud, sometimes, the locations were amazing, summonings too...I feel the XII one like incomplete for many reasons...

I think FF VII is known as the epic Final Fantasy, FF XII is just awesome because it's a new system, graphics are naturally better.

"which is the greatest" can't really be...measurable. bother have their pros and cons. IMO, 7 had a much more original storyline and more rounded characters than 12 did. on the other hand, 12 kicked 7's arse in the graphics department. personally, overall, i enjoyed playing 12 better than 7.

Now that I've finaly beaten Final Fantasy XII I can leave an objective post regarding the subject. First of all I enjoyed playing both games, both have their pros and cons, though overall, I find XII to be better in many aspects. Like story for instance, while many complain about it I find it to be one of the best and by far the most original in the series. As for the characters, that round goes to VII, now, that doesn't mean XII had bad characters just not developed enough. XII battle system is superior in almost every aspect, battles are more dynamic, challenging and most importanly epic, the license board and gambit system were also nice, I love games where you're alowed to customize your characters the way you want.

One thing I'm really fond of are non random battles, even though I don't really hate random battles, still, you gotta admit, they can be annoying sometimes. That's one of the huge advantages to previous tittles, as are huge open spaces and enormous world to explore. One thing Final Fantasy VII can't compete with, not just VII but the others games in the series are huge amount of content XII has. All those items, magic, equipment, technics, creatures, monsters, summons, sidequests and many more, not to mention how much effort was put into Ivalice, and I don't mean visually, but history of Ivalice, races, people, important events etc. etc....The only thing left if is music, and we have a tie, both games have an excellent music, I simply can't favor one over the other. One thing I also need to mention, XII was way more challenging, I consider that a plus as VII was way too easy, though both games can't really brag with difficulty of their final boss...

With all that said, both games are not nearly good as Final Fantasy IX (jk. or am I?)

I do like both but i do have to sayyy........ final fantasy seven is more interesting to me because of all the thigs it has to offer you got the game (ff VII) plus the movie (advent children) the side games and manga (FF VII crisis core and before crisis) and finnaly the novel (on the way to a smile) but i also like FF XII so don't think im FF XII racist cuz im not.

In my experience, no old FF game has been beat by a newer one. Well, in graphics of course, but other than that, the old games are superior in story and characterization and therefore, in my book, will always win. So, VII over XII, definitely. I've only played about 1/3 of each game, so who knows, maybe XII will change my mind. Unlikely, though.

Yea I read them, it was a matter of opinion between people like me and the few that are like the one or so guys that did the review at famitsu and loved it for whatever reason he did. But I see that score listed everywhere so I feel like that's probably what its riding on in terms of the majority of people not calling it a failure because other people will probably quote a few scores claiming it is good.

Not even comparing it to other final fantasies, it is a boring game, i can't finish it not because I'm like "I hope there's a Yuffie-like character" or "Where is all my chocobo raising sidequests?" It's because it's dreadfully boring or unexpectedly stupid (mostly from Vaan).

Comparing it to other Final fantasies though, the characters are weak, Balthier is the only one that feels like he belongs in a Final fantasy game.

I can easily say that XII was my favorite over VII. Sure VII was a good game, but I prefer the awesome equipment options of XII, the great music, the gambit system, and other stuff. FFVII's storyline didn't make sense to me, still doesn't either.

I actually prefer the plot in other FFs games compared to these two, but out of the games I would pick here is XII without question.

I think that final fantasy vii is way better than final fantasy xii by far. it has better graphics and a better story line. it is like what your life wants to be but can't push through the boundery. Anyway, I think that final fantasyvii is the better than the final fnatasy xii.
