    Ultima...

My first RPG might have been Ultima III when it was released in 1983 (I think I got Commodore 64 at that time), at least I can't remember any other RPG from that time...

    Ultima...

Ultima IX: Ascension is probably the most ****ed up thing ever in the history of games. It's for me at least. I don't really even want to talk about it, it's pure crap. I think it was supposed to end the series anyways but EA ruined it completely.
What a way to end the best game series ever...

This is all that needs to be said: http://www.surfing.net/ultima/news.html (I remember reading that site when the game was still in production... it hasn't been updated after that text in January 2000)

Unlike that person, I didn't even ever finish the game.

Who has the rights to the M&M series these days, anyway? Ubisoft? Or did they only care to create more games in the Heroes of.. series?
    Hero façade. Villain at heart.

Not for Oblivion (which I have less interest in), but NWNII would probably require I get a new computer. It requires a 9800 Pro, while I have a kind of 9700. I'm pretty sure there's a video memory difference between the two. Oblivion I may pick up when I get a 360, hehe. I just wish there was a way to get older vintage games. I'd like to try them, even if I only play them for an hour. Then I could say I at least tried, haha.

I don't remember who bought New World Computing.

Yup.. Lord British has disappeared through the Black Gate.

Ultima VII required ~20MB. I only had 120MB HDD.. I got it installed but it was a stretch.. I had to remove a lot of games.

Back on topic: I spent about 3 hours effing with episode 2 last night. Turns out when you open an older flash document in a new version it likes to turn on features not available in the older version that try to improve the look of your graphics. Once fixed it introduced other glitches.. yay.. well its all resolved now, mostly. I need to make another run through it, fix/smooth some other stuff and yay a touched up episode 2!

Speaking of Lord British, I'm setting my sights on his new MMO: Tabula Rasa.

I would normally be extremely happy for a new Lord British project, but MMOs kill me... and my time and waste my life. hahaha.... I look back at 2006 and start to wonder "what happened half the year, its all a blur... oh yeah, i was playing WoW"

  8. #8
lol. Well if you can balance everything well, then it's not so bad, but one thing will suffer as you choose one or the other, of course. =T

It's not just that, MMOs are meant for you to spend hundreds of hours in them while the average RPG is 40.. it takes eons to level up. Thus sucking your life away while you grind your level. It's not an issue of fun, that's for sure. I love it and still crave it. If i only put 10 hours a week (which is a lot of my free time) then i'd be moving very slowly. Especially when it takes you an hour to get in a dungeon group. Then you get to high levels and the only way to enjoy the game is to get in a clan and they'll expect you to put in 40 hours a week.

I wasted a perfectly good nor-cal summer where i could have been on a beach or something and still had plenty of time for a regular RPG. The game was fun at low levels when if you couldn't get in a group you could still have fun with another friend or solo. But then as you get to higher levels it takes weeks of active play to level up, and it becomes a life sucker. If i tried to balance it, then everyone i knew in the game would spring to a higher level and i'd be soloing again.

I have nothing to show for the 5 months I put in WoW. No movies. No animations. No 360 achievement points . No tan lines. hehe...

it was also my 4th MMO. it was clearly the best one and less "waste" of my time.

This is coming from the guy that told me to keep on playing. That I quit too early. That I was just getting to the fun part. I have no built up immunities to anything remotely hack n' slash and was already withering away by level 35. You people are crazy.

And FFXI is even worse. Heero, you're probably the craziest! =P

Edit: I've come to the conclusion that WoW is some kind of wonderdrug. Even to this day I still have cravings. Nightshade basically waved it at me a couple of months ago and I started salivating.

You did quit too early! 35??? dude some of the 40-50 dungeons were really really really fun.

More like 42. I've said this so many times before, but the game just started sucking after I hit STV. I wanted lore, and they gave me goblin pirates and three types of raptors. I am an impatient tweener.

    So...What was Ultima Online like?

UO sucked balls compared to modern MMOs.. .but they were still learning how to do an MMO so it was hilariously unbalanced. I played it the day of release and was thieving from EVERYONE with no consequence.

I never understood how you could build your own houses and stuff. That always sounded cool to me, but I never fully understood how it worked even after having it explained to me. Did you have to purchase a plot of land, or just setup camp and build your death spire? Did they have to expand the world so it didn't get crowded? What was it like inside? Or am I making this more complicated than it really is?

FFXI was the closest to a "house" that I've ever gotten, and that wasn't really a house. PS3's Home looks so attractive...

La la la... I dunno if I would ever invest the time/money necessary to play an MMORPG, even if I had the computer for it. I've played a little bit of Everquest and WoW; like, the very beginning of each. I think I liked WoW better, but then again I was already a fan of the Warcraft series, so...

That was also interesting, watching those videos that Kaz posted of M&M 6. Are there always that many enemies everywhere, or something? I'm also interested in knowing how you control your characters in the non-turnbased version. Different keys on the keyboard, I suppose? I also liked how the characters' portraits jerked around when they would do something/get hit. Anyhoo....

They'll also turn to stone when they're petrified, or turn into skeletons when they're eradicated.

  17. #17
You bought the house and could put it anywhere it allowed you to.. lol. we put it in a forest and pooled together for the cost. Then you can buy stuff for inside. They give you a key for your inventory and you can make copies of it and give it to whoever.

I had a bard who could enchant animals and make them follow you. Another player broke into our house and killed our goat i enchanted. Think of an MMO with little law and order, and you have UO.

This sounds like an awesome game. Why can't we have houses? Why can't we break into houses? Why can't we have enchanted goats?

What, you were complaining in WoW that you were being killed all the time, now you want a game where you're killed with every step AND they can steal your items you're wearing AND they can break into your house and steal shit. It created an odd environment where everyone ran around naked for fear of being killed and losing their stuff.

I only remember complaining in length a select number of times to you, and the only time I remember much of was when this rogue evaded the goblinoid guards right next to him twice (since he couldn't/didn't finish me off the first time). I know that I'm going to be killed in the field, or even in town from time to time (like when that Warlock DoTed everyone from the bowsprit to evade guards), but everyone has their limit. I hit mine then and there. Some keep silent and make it their hobby to PK lowbies when they get to a high level. I just rant.

I'm not really interested in playing Ultima though, haha. I'm just interested in the house system. =P If I kept telling myself, "You are going to die at some point, think of it as a survival game," I could probably do it. I'm no good with MMOs though, so scratch that.

PSU has an offline mode, though. And the online is free. Technically. >.>

  24. #24
Technically??? Not according to SEGA, GUARDIAN licenses cost $9.99 a month.

not that I intend to pay $9.99 for a non MMO...seems like a lot to play with your friends online. stupid... but I loved PSO on my dreamcast (when online was free) and offline mode wasn't so bad then.

I owned PSO 1&2 from the GameCube, I think. I remember there was a piece of paper or something on the inner "sleeve" of the case. I think it was, "$14.99 MONTHLY FOR ONLINE PLAY!" Wasn't it $14.99? They keep going up and down, up and down. They need to keep going down, to zero. Use in-game ads in the lobby, that'll do it.

Edit: Can't find the ad anywhere. just something on the back that says, "Please refer to Sega for online billing blah blah blah." They instead talk about how you can have great 4-player offline split-screen action.

Yeah it's pretty lame... plus i'm the only one i know with PSU, so it'd be even more pointless to pay for online right now.. maybe if someone i know with 3 numbers in their name would buy a 360

I'm already paying $50 a year for online play, $120 more a year for just 1 game is retarded.

  27. #27
so....close...... just when i think i'm happy with the movie i decide i don't like something else...

If i remember right when i first made these i just had to cut myself off after a while and recognize the fact i'll never be 100% happy with it.

  28. #28
Heh, that's what the deal is with art... no matter how good others praise you, you'll still be nit picky about minor details.. at least... that's how I feel/am with my art.. =T so I feel yea.

yeah i'm that way with everything i've ever drawn, animated, composed, written, or filmed.

I have 3 things i want to fix w/ episode 2 and then i'm done...

Unless i introduce the Heero character in an epic fight with Quistis' whip.
