Powering down during an update huh? I can imagine that causing problems and they do usually say not to do mess with the PS3 when its downloading or installing. But I'd think that they would test something like that to know what would happen. Though I guess the don't power off the kit while this is occurring sort of safe guards them from accidents huh? ^^; Well it's all water under the bridge now with your shiny new PS3 slim.
My original PS3 was very quiet. It had that "hum" like a computer would, but not as loud. But when I opened a game and really made it think, it would go insane. Every so often while playing movies it would do it too, and I hate having to change the volume while you're watching a movie. I get really into movies, or try to, and turn out all the lights and put my surround on.

Anyway, I love my new PS3. Haven't had any problems yet, I will never turn it off during an update again (even if it seems like it's frozen), and that's that.

Cheers!
