Yay, thank God, somebody revived this! I've been trying to figure out some questions for the thread for a while now, but silly me didn't even think of this. Crimbo. I'm such a ditz.

What do think of Christmas songs?
They're nice. Very jolly, and good for getting you into the whole Christmassy mood. Although, they do piss me off a lot when I'm Christmas shopping and it's really busy in the stores. Some old guy with a beard singing "I wish it could be Christmas everyday" really doesn't help when there's a bunch of pushing and shoving people surrounding you everywhere, haha.

I get really sick of them, especially around Christmas and the few months before it where stores and other establishments go overboard with them. I really despise when they loop one album endlessly, or worse, a single...

I think the closest thing to a Christmas song or album I've ever liked was the Melvins' The Bootlicker album. Some of the songs seem to have CHristmas references, yet they mightn't exactly be pro-christmas.

Which do you hate beyond reason?

Christmas carols. In particular those ones where they get a couple dozen kids under the age of five and have them sing terribly so they can make and sell some CDs worth a few dollars each.

I prefer rock/pop/chart etc, yet only barely. Christmas I can find fun, Christmas music becomes more and more painful every year.

I'd like to join, since I've been boring my ass off lately (even though I'm gonna start studying like mad).

What are/is your favourite type(s) of music?
MY favourite would be alternative guitar (and electro) stuff. But I basically like any music that's somewhat original. I have some fine electro records, alternative (hard) rock, acoustic stuff, alternative stuff, (experimental) punk (not the "kewl" kind you see these days though!), both old and new.

Do you have a particular favourite artist/band? If so, who?
My favourite bands would be dEUS, Sonic Youth and Queens of the Stone Age. Though I'd feel guilty if I weren't to mention The Beatles, MGMT, The Who, Oasis, Depeche Mode, Dave Gahan, Beck, Bob Dylan and lots more really.

How has music affected your life?
Music is really important to me. I grew up with lots of different music available around the house, since my dad has build up a huge CD collection (certainly by now), though not for collecting purposes obviously.

Have any musical talents?
I play the guitar, both acoustic and electric, and I'm good at it. I can sing quite well too, although my voice has trouble reaching high notes, which is kind of normal since I'm a guy not wearing tights . I write my own songs, but haven't finished one until this day (not counting the songs I wrote when I was still in school, filled with naive teenage angst and desire for Platonic love. LOL, Platonic!), since I don't have an actual band yet and don't have any incentive to actually work on it.

What's your favourite song at the moment?
My favourite song lately has been the new Sonic Youth one. "What We Know".
Just YouTube that shit: "What we know" + "Sonic Youth" + "Jools" and you'll get a good performance of the new song. It's not as heavy as the rest of their songs and a tad catchier, but I still like it.

I really like NWA and Dr. Dre. Can anyone recommend me some (gangsta) rap or good, original hip hop?

As well as my love for metal and atmospheric music, I'm quite into post-rock, techno and drum and bass these days.

Some prime examples would be Maybeshewill, Mono and If These Trees Could Talk (post-rock) and Pendulum and Prodigy (drum and bass.)

Post-rock isn't really one of those hyped up genres that everybody listens to, but I love it nonetheless. I think I was just born to be one of those people that loves pretty much most music out there.

Oh, and Lady Gaga is kind of a genius in some weird and wonderful way.

This is an open invitation to all that wish to participate in the open beta testing of a new Club/Social Group Project.

A brief explanation of the project: the social group format that currently exists as a separate group where members can create threads and post freely will be recreated within the Club Forums through the use of Sub Forums individualized for each Club or Social Group.

That is the short of it, here is the longer version please read everything before making your decision so you understand what it going to happen.

What we’re going to be doing is running a base model of the final fully feature product that we have envisioned. It will have all of the basic functionality we want, but it will lack all of the bells and whistles that we want to add to make things more robust. The beta test will be a way for us to get things started to see how people like it and where we can make improvements. Even without the bells and whistles it can still functional fully as intended, as a Club or Social Group. Everyone that participates will be able to provide feedback and suggestions on additional features to add to make it something that everyone can enjoy.

The base model is pretty simple for now, but as we have the time available to make the mods needed to it things will grow and you’ll be able to test out the new stuff we add. What the base model will be is a sub forum located in the Clubs Forum of the main forum. There the sub forum will be given whatever name the group that participates wants along with a brief description. With the sub forum you’ll be able to continue discussions and talk as you have previously in the social groups. This will mean that the clubs rules from before will be relaxed significantly more than they ever have to accommodate the posting environment of the social groups.

The club forums will become a “Main Club Forum” which will be the hub for all of the groups. The main club forum will be used as a “front desk” for the groups or as I like to call it a job fair. Each group will have a thread where forum members wishing to join will sign up and you’ll be able to look at your applicants. All requests for giving forum members access will go through me first and I’ll handle the work.

So that is how things will work for the beta after the setup. The creation of a sub-forum for your group will be very similar to how clubs are made. You will make a post in the registration thread of the club forum requesting a sub-forum for your group. Do note that if your social group or club already exists it will be automatically approved all you’ll be doing is giving me the necessary information to fill out to personalize your sub-forum to your group. If anyone wants to make a new group in the sub-forum that doesn’t already exist then it will go through an approval process that you see happen in the thread currently. You’ll want to read the main post to see the form that you’ll need to fill out since it’ll be different from the norm as well as necessary so you can have your sub-forum read the way you want it.

Now to answer why you would want to do this if it is going to be mirroring the social groups. With this move to the club forums as a sub forum you’re threads and post will appear in the main forum providing greater visibility to your group as a whole (such as the “new posts” and “posts in the last 24 hours”). This can help to promote and increase your own group’s interest and activity in the forum. Your social group will no longer be hidden in a specialized area that does not even provide updates or notices to its members. All of the features you use in the forums will be available for you to use such thanks, new posts in your User CP and forum subscriptions.

I want to take a little time to explain what we want to eventually make the final product of this to look like. The plan will be to allow the sub-forums to be customized with icons and images that represent the groups. They will also be available to be listed in your own profile like inventory items are so you can show off and advertise for your own groups. You’ll be able to select which ones you want to display just like items. Some of these features will require us to create our own mods to have it happen as they don’t exist. So it should be understandable why they won’t be available at the start.

As said before, any additional features can come from the suggestions and ideas you give us. We won’t be able to promise to do everything, but it will never hurt to give every idea you have. We’ll let you know if it is possible and if we will try it out. Anything new we do will be run through the beta testing groups until we hit an end point that we feel it is finished.

This does open immediately and there will be no limit on how many groups we accept into beta testing. There will also be no time limit on joining the testing. It will always be open unless we deem it unsustainable or the project fails. Please check the Club Forums for further updates and work for the beta testing.

So I've recently found myself getting into Phoenix, Interpol, and Orianthi, which is a little odd, as it's not quite like anything else that I listen to. I've also noticed that my musical tastes evolve in little snippets over time, rather than in dramatic shifts. So I guess that to bring a little life back to this thread I'll attempt a discussion.

How have your musical tastes changed in the past year? I recall that there may have been one over the course of your life, but I'm curious about the little shifts in tastes that happen in such a small span of time.

Do you have any Guilty Pleasure Bands, no matter how rediculous they might be? I know I have a soft spot for The Used, and some disco music, not gonna lie.

Even though you posted this a couple months ago, I'm in the same boat as you. I started listening to different Death Row rappers like Dr. Dre, 2pac, Biggie Smalls, Warren G, Snoop Dogg, stuff like that. My knowledge is still extremely limited, so my suggestions probably aren't helping.

And that Brother Ali song is fantastic. I'll have to check out more of his stuff.

Guilty Pleasure bands? I don't really have any bands that I listen to regularly that I'd call "guilty pleasures." I have a bunch of songs that are real guilty pleasures for me, like Smooth by Santana and Rob Thomas. I like to blast it in my car and sing along with it. God help you if you're in line with me at a store and it comes on, because you can be damn sure that I'll be singing along with it.
