Care to quote some of these "most brilliant physicists"? Because being involved in studying this sort of thing, most physicists I hear of/read about tend put down the notion, barring some sort of black hole utilization. But then once they bring in the notion of using black holes, they make sure to include the disclaimer that you'd be stretched to the width of the black hole, with the resulting stream of particles so thin that you'd have a 0% chance of survival.
