Last night, I went to one in a series of shows in my home town called "Shows in the Park" or "River Rhythms" (although I think "River Rhythms" only goes through July...) They take place in Monteith Park, where there is a large stage. The same people go to all the shows, apparently; it's more of a town event than to see the artists, maybe. We also get a lot of the hippies down from Eugene.

Anyhoo, last night was "Herman's Hermits" (they did songs like Henry the 8th, A Kind of Hush, etc.) I believe that Herman was the only original member left. In any case, he did some of his own songs, although a lot of it was covers. He also did a lot of talking. He was entertaining. At one point, he thanked his young girl up front for dancing for him, and then asked "Did your mother make you come?" And then immediately afterwards, in a resigned voice, he stated "Her grandmother made her come." He also commented on how the barista at our local Star Bucks mistook him for Nick Nolte, and stated that they'd always wanted to come here (which garnered lots of laughs; we know what we are. Heh.)

I watched the first half of his show, and then my brother had me come over, sit with his friends, and have a couple beers. Anyhoo...

EDIT: Apparently there are two Herman's Hermits bands... one starring Peter Noone, and the other starring Berry Whitham. I'm not sure which one I saw last night... how confusing...

I went to Soulfest in New Hampshire at the beginning of the month.

I saw Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, The Chariot, Before Their Eyes, Inhale Exhale, Flatfoot 56, An Internal Denial, All Ships at Sea, Disciple, The Silent, ect. ect.

Just a decent amount of fun bands to see live.

P!nk, in Brisbane not last month but the one before... Actually, that's the only concert I've been to. Too expensive.

It was awesome indeed. She's amazing live, has a brilliant strong voice. And she did this thing with like.. Ribbons, where she twirled herself up in the air... lol. YouTube it. But it was awesome, and worth it.

I saw Evergreen Terrace last week. From the sounds of it, TomStrife would know who they are. They were good, nothing spectacular. The crowd was very stagnant.

I am seeing the Cure in a few months. Maybe Interpol.

Streetlight Manifesto and Reel Big Fish.

Less Than Jake played too, but I thought I was going to die, so we left early. It was a good show, though. Reel Big Fish was fun, they interacted well with the audience, and even though I was being pushed around (and into people's armpits... I hate being small AND at a concert), I still had a good time over all.

Still... when they played "Thank You for Not Moshing"... it SUCKED.

Saturday night, I went to a house party in Portland, featuring Hellbent For... (my brother's band, and incidently the band I would have been in if I weren't so freaking lazy) and the Richard Hedders (another band I know fairly well.) It was at the house of the drummer for both bands. Basically, the people at the show consisted of the Richard Hedders and their friends; drunk people and their girlfriends. One of my favorite parts was when my brother, some other people, and I were talking with the drummer, when his girlfriend walked in and said, "People are burning stuff outside, and they want to know if they can burn that old umbrella. Is that okay?" The drummer said "No!" and immediately ran outside.

My brother's this raging alcoholic, too, and he made us all margeritas, which consisted of 11 shots of vodka and margerita mix. My other brother (the one in the band "Hellbent For...") doesn't drink very often, and gave me the rest of his. I, in turn, just handed the rest of mine to our alcoholic brother. My cousin was also there (the one who was into ska.) My alcoholic brother got him sick. I don't know how he was doing the next day, either; I hope he was alright.

Anyhoo, Hellbent For... consisted of a bunch of songs my brother's written for various bands he's played with, so I recognized nearly all of them. The band consists of him on vocals and accoustic guitar, and the drummer on drums (and, on one song, the xylophone.) I would describe them as "unplugged pop punk," I suppose. Except that fifty thousand punk purists will yell at me for using such a term. But I don't give a shit. I would also say that I really enjoyed their set, but I'm the lead singer's brother, so how much does my word mean?

Anyhoo, the Richard Hedders were next. They have a new guitar player who is much more talented than the rest of them. He was doing a bunch of guitar solos and such, and sounded really good (although after the show he said he sucked that night, and this girl was also telling him he sucked that night.) *shrug* He brought the guitar up over his head, and also played it with is teeth on one occasion. He should've also lit it on fire. Oh well. The lead singer was crazy, as usual; by the end, he was shirtless and wrapping the microphone cord around himself, staggering around and singing. I would say I really enjoyed these guys too, and think they're hilarious, but again, I know them pretty well, too. They're gonna make it some day, though; their lifestyle demands that this actually pay off some day. Crazy and ridiculous. Either that, or they'll end up in jail.

The drummer's doing pretty well for himself, at least. Anyhoo...

Hmm, it's been months since I've been to a proper gig, and they were The Kaiser Chiefs, they aren't really one of my favourite bands, I like a few of their songs but they aren't up there in my opinion of great bands. Yes I know I'm quoting one of their songs in my sig, but I like that little bit.
They had the Pidgeon Detectives and The Long Blondes as supports.
Pidgeon detectices were ok, I didn't think anything special, but they've managed to get their album released so good luck to them.
The Long Blondes were terrible in my opinion, they hadn't even decided on what genre of music they were playing so the songs were too wildly different to enjoy.

Apart from that there was a band in the under 18s club night on Thurs, Dear Super Star they called themselves, didn't like their style at all and could hardly hear their lyrics.

The best gig of my life, and I've seen a lot of big bands in me puff. By God, that little man...he had 30,000 people in the palm of his hand, myself included. His band were virtuoso, his dancers simply amazing, and the lighting rig was the biggest I've ever seen. I watched it; the thing was so huge that it needed ten riggers in it at all times to operate the bigger lights.

The show was improvised, from what I could tell. He had a setlist I'm sure, but every now and then the lights would dim, and one or two band members would improv solo, probably to give the dancers a breather. For some reason, people kept leaving during these breaks. I didn't get it.

His drummer was phenomenal, and his...well, I can't name them all, can I? Every single member of his band was absolutely superb. And the purple midget himself was on top form. His guitar playing is out of this world.

I don't even like Prince's music that much. I just knew that he'd be good. Each and every one of you needs to go to one of his gigs before you die; you can't help but dance in the stalls, everyone looking as insane as each other and not caring, because you're hearing the best music you've ever heard.

It was about a month back but I saw The Cure, in Sydney at the Entertainment Centre.

Brilliant, brilliant band. Only criticism was that it was WAY too loud for the venue. Now you may think that sounds stupid, but it was to the point where Robert Smith's (the lead singer) voice became distorted at points. Other than that it was an all around good performance though.

The crowd was ok. I'm much younger than the average Cure fan, so it was odd to be at a concert where no one was completely off their face or hurt. Thats a positive by the way.

About a month ago on August 1'st I saw Muse at Arrow Hall in Toronto


Man that was a sweet concert, on each song they had a back drop that played a sweet video to go with a song so it was like seeing a live music video, and people jumping around you pushing shoving crowd surfing, just overall greatness. I heard a guy at the concert say it was worse than the time the Foo Fighters were there like violence wise. N\And there opener was The Cold War Kids, which were pretty good...won't lie, best show i've seen

the last show i went to was ozzfest o7 you know the"FREE" one? yeah right it normally costs about 15 to park in the concrete parking lot and 10 in the mud. well it was 30 for concrete and 20 for mud. that made me mad . and alls i got to see was hatebreed. not complaining about hatebreed cause they were awsome but i wanted to see ozzy.i couldnt cause my women who is prego couldnt take the heat and i spent all i had on parking so we left and found out the next day we could have stayd in the car till ozzy came on.

Projekt Revolution!!! That was amazing. I was in the mosh pit with Underoath! lol. I know most people wont believe that but its all good. I know and that is all that matters.

My best friend who loves good music went there and was dragged by his girlfriend to see My Chemical Romance and Linkin Park.

He told me Linkin Park was actually good live.

Not that impressive, but over the summer, I went with my wife, and my buddy and his girl to Red, White, and Boom in KC. Mainly for my wife. But it wasn't bad. Daughtry was there. They weren't bad. I like Daughtry. But it wasn't that exciting. Gym Class Heroes was good. I thought they had the best performance overall. Augustana wasn't bad, but I missed some of it because I was in the Hooters tent chowing down. Katherine McPhee was there. She is hot so it wasn't all bad. I wasn't close enough. Should've brought the binoculars. And though most of the people were obviously there to see Daughtry and GCH, the person who got the biggest pop besides Daughtry(who headlined) was...Jojo?!? I couldn't believe it. She got a bigger pop than GCH. Also local DJ Cabanaboy performed.

The last awesome concert I went to was Sammy Hagar. That was a bad ass show. Cabo Wabo Margaritas baby. The damn things were expensive though. But I guess they would be since Cabo Wabo is like fifty bucks a bottle.

it's pretty clear that dance music is coming back around the world -- just check the recent big American hip-hop and R&B hits which are clear rip-offs of the european dance style.....

Haha, no one here would be familiar with any of the local hardcore from around here, but the last show i went to was on the coast, last saturday. Vices for Virtues, Before the Throne, Third Strike and Wingspan supported the well known (Well, in Australia) baned, Mourning Tide. Was a great show, i'm going to be sore for the rest of the week.

I saw Streetlight Manifesto on Wednesday. SUCH a good show. Jim, who normally plays the tenor sax, had some infection in a cut in his lip and couldn't play. He mostly sang, and occasionally busted out his sweet ass flute. Tomas broke guitar strings on his two electric guitars, so he had to go acoustic for a while while a roadie restrung his guitars. Sounded great either way.

We got there a bit late, so we only caught the last opening act, MU330, a veteran ska band. They had a great finale. The Trombone player ripped off his shirt, and ran around the stage with a chainsaw. So epic.

One woman, one guitar, a set of loop pedals, and a whole song - Black Horse and the Cherry Tree was the highlight for me. My boyfriend's contribution to the gig was 'Her legs are better in real life'. Excellent night.

It was quite a while ago, I think in Fall of 07, but I went with my mom, sis, and even my grandma (long story, had some car trouble, and my grandma had to drive an hour to pick us up, and she stayed for the show), to go see Puddle of Mudd, Finger Eleven, and Nickelback. Good times, good times, though personally, I enjoyed the band playing between sets, a semi-local band called The Fifth more than Nickelback.

Still doesn't really compare to my first show. going with my aunt to see Nine Inch Nails on 6-6-2006 (coolest aunt ever!)

At the Borg Ward

Outer Circle was pretty great. Sort of a drone/stoner metal group, almost instrumental. I say almost instrumental, as they had about two lines of lyrics in the song they played. It sounded ****ing stupid, and was completely unnecessary.

Peter J. Woods put on another great set. He utilized a couple of symbols for his main sounds, and worked with pedals and whatnot from there. My only complaint is agains myself, as I stood way too close to one of the stacks, and my hearing suffered for a bit.

Climax Denial, another noise act, wasn't even scheduled to play, but one of the other acts canceled, and he was willing to play on short notice. Good set, nothing remarkable or memorable about it.

This Specific Dream could go down as my favorite group of the night. They reminded me of Dub Trio, and if you know me, you know I want to have sex with the entirety of Dub Trio (you know, in a totally heterosexual way). The only differences were: 1. They didn't play Dub, and 2. There were four of them. Good experimental, instrumental stuff though.

****ing sweet. Like, if I could take a panda bear ****ing a unicorn, and put it into musical form, this would be it. That 1 Guy is really cool, utilizing The Magical Pipe, the Magical Saw, and The Magical Boot amongst other cool instruments in his one man band show.

Buckethead was Buckethead. Ridiculous guitar player, great dancer. He messed up a couple of times, but it's forgivable as he teased Fleetwood Mac. That's right. He teased Fleetwood Mac. There was a fireworks show, which was cool. Best thing: it was a free show.

Last concert I went to was at Fitz's in H-town. They were featuring the finalists...some small band I had never heard of. Come to find out they have really good music, and I am now a big fan. An for all of you who have never been to Fit'z; it is basicly a little two story bar centeres out in SE Houston. You can listen to practicly a different band every night, and they have smoking on the balcony. It is really hard to find parking, but way worth it. The particular night the whole gang was there...too bad afterwards me an my bf got sideswiped, but oh well. Minor sacrifice to the party gods.

The last show I went to was the Honda Civic tour that hopped by kinda near Omaha, Nebraska. I got to see Phantom Planet, Motion City Soundtrack and Panic at the Disco. For those of you who don't know, Phantom Planet is the band that made the opening theme song for the OC, and they were all cool as all hell and put on a decent show. Next came out another band. I forgot who they were, but they did ok too. On the band's last song, Brandon Urie from Panic came out and sang one of the chorus lines, so it was pretty sweet. Next was Motion City Soundtrack, who IMO put on the best performance overall. Right off the bat they started out with the song "My Favorite Accident" and got the whole crowd pumped, and they never let off after that. Then the final band was Panic, of course. Although they did a good job and it is evident that Brandon Urie, their vocalist, has a lot of talent, I am not a fan of their new CD and wish they stuck to making more of their old stuff, but that is just coming from me. Plus, when they sang their old stuff again they didn't have a synth/modulated stuff so the songs sounded not as great to me. But overall the whole concert was awesome and I had a great time going!

The last shows I've been to have been at a at a small place with a few local bands and thats on loads but the last big one I went to was Reading Festival and the V-Festival. Losts of great bands but this was a little while ago. I'm plannig to go again soon but it was great because some of the newer bands who were there have now become really well known and I can say to people that I've seen them. Was great fun; the crowds were screaming but having a good, drunken time and by the time I left I was covered in beer because everyone likes to chuck cups of it around. Lovely.

I saw... err... Panic At the disco, FOB, Yeah yeah yeahs, Orson, eagles of death Metal, Keane, Kasabian... and loads of others that I just heard in passing aswell.

So I saw Rush last night. They were "Meh" at best. I saw them last October(I believe?) and last night was generally the same show with a couple of changes to the set list. they didn't change any of the little "funny" videos, and had the same lame "OMG YYZ LOL SOUTH PARK" Guitar Hero references as last time. They, being very old, took a 30 minute break in between sets, then came back with 4 slow songs from "Snakes and Arrows" which I have not cared to get yet. For a band with nearly 40 years of experience playing shows, they have pacing issues.

Overall, it was okay. I don't feel like I got ripped off out of my $62, but I could have spent it much better. Like food.

An amazing concert. Only complaint is that people were there and looked like they were having no fun whatsoever. What weenies!

People complained about the setlist, but I think it was really good.
An Encore of Money, Two Step, and Ants Marching? Worth the price of admission, expecially with Tim Reynolds there.
