For the matter of the gigai:

You have to remember that Urahara makes and repairs gigai. Therefore, it would be quite easy for Isshin to get a new gigai every few years, or repairs made to his current one. Heck, Urahara could probably come up with something permanent. I doubt it's his real body, because he was in Soul Society for so long. His real body would be a mere skeleton, and so far, they have not shown us any means of reviving flesh.

Also, a thing I have been wondering for a while now is what Isshin had to do with all the experiments. They don't seem to say in the stuff I've read through.


Also, Andromeda, I've never thought of that before, that Urahara has in fact indirectly helped Soul Society by training Ichigo. So has Yourichi for that matter

Our characters can definately use this knowledge to help them in the coming war against the arrancar.
