I played SSBM yesterday. I just fought Fox the entire time, since he's one of the cheaper characters in the game. I started off with a single level 9, then two level 9s, then three level 9s. Naturally, they were teamed. I could handle up to two to some extent (and win frequently), but by three it was tough. They had this tactic where one would grapple me, and the other two would either just shoot me or kick me repeatedly, and then throw me down and turn their deflectors on. It was like being put through a meat grinder. I'll probably try Link or Ganondorf today. No Falco, he's probably even worse.I still have the same sucky reflexes I've always had. It's going to take a while before I get better.
And then I played some Disgaea 2. Currently the majority of my party is level 70, with the two main characters being about level 100. I haven't done item world yet...I want to beat the story first, and since I haven't played in a while it wouldn't be a good time to start. Leveling up skills are really damn annoying, and I don't know how to make it go any faster. I can't tell if damage dealt affects skill EXP gain, or if it's the number of targets affected, or what. I haven't bothered to check, either. I also checked what it would be like to go into Item World with a Rank 30 or so item (maximum being 40, though I think you can only access up to level 39 in shops). The enemies were surprisingly weak, so I guess I'm really behind in terms of equipment. Even the bonuses awarded at the end of the level give better offerings.
There is a second Item World in Disgaea 2. It's for the more "epic" parties. In a level 39 item you'll meet up with an Item God by the end of it (you may have to use a legendary item, I can't remember) who's level is 9999. Goddamn.
