Mortal Kombat

So I looked around for a thread on the topic of this game but didn't find any. So just to start they finally got it rated M, as it should be!!! The fatalities are wonderfully gruesome and the addition of the X-Ray attacks makes fighting even more fun, oh and annoying for those people who can't block them and have to painfully watch as their bones shatter.

The character roster is great as of now and every character is unique in their fighting style and all their special moves are great to see. The story mode was fun, you actually got to see how each character came into being, including those that you really don't know too much about like why Kabal now wheres the mask, what they did to keep Smoke from becoming a Lin Kuei automated assassin in this timeline and what consequences came from it, and the internal struggle between the Lin Kuei and members like Cyrax who were resisting the automation. I love good stories and seeing the history of all the MK characters was great.

The challenge tower offers a unique challenge that I still haven't been able to work completely through, am around 276 out of 300 challenges, and some challenges like facing 3 Goro's with Ermac or 3 Shao Kahn's with Stryker were difficult and at times made we want to throw my controller but I was able to work through them eventually. Although I did the one long range attack like n00b bc I couldn't beat the Shao Kahn's any other way lol.

How about favorite fatalities? My favorites at the moment are from Noob Saibot, Jade, and Sektor. Noob's Make a Wish was one of the most gruesome fatalities I've seen and made me get up from my seat when I saw it, it was awesome! I liked Jade's Flag Pole one bc I see to be very adept with her out of the three female ninjas (soon to be 4 with the addition of Skarlet), and Sektor has a fatality named Scarecrow that I never saw coming and I won't ruin the surprise lol.

On a closing note the Babalities are even more fantastic this time around. Each character does a unique action when they are turned into babies instead of just sitting there. My favorite at the moment is Sub-Zero's, he get turned into a baby, gets nervous and pees himself and creates a puddle under his feet which freezes and causes him to slip and fall on his butt. Hahaha!!

So what do you guys think? Favorite characters? Fatalities? Babalities? Was the story mode what you thought it would be? Challenge Tower really a challenge?

PORTAL KOMBAT!

I have been absolutely -raping- this game, it's so good! I've completed all the story mode and all the challenge mode. The reward sucks so badly for it all but the sheer boasting is enough to keep me happy. I beat them all with Smoke, too. I was literally screaming in the house.

I have to admit, I have never wanted to learn kombos before now because they help so much. I've never juggled opponents so much before in my life, either. Some of the best characters for this, I think, are Cyber-Subzero, Ermac, Reptile and Nightwolf. I love playing as these characters. The X-Rays are fun to watch but somewhat cheap. I mean, I understand it's a super move but maybe having a harder kombination of buttons to press would be better. Especially for a thing that can take 50+% when put into a combo. xD

The fatalities are just amazing. The gore factor is at the max and I have to admit, my favourite is also the Sektor Skarecrow. I also love the Kratos one because of the gore but I just felt like The Blade Of Olympus could have done more. It seems unfinished.

Oh, and I love the Noob babality. He's playing with... Nevermind. xD

My friend owns this. I have never been interested in Mortal Kombat before, but after watching him play it the first night and then playing it a little bit on consecutive nights, this game has actually piqued my interest.

That's his first one, right? Yeah, that was pretty crazy. A bunch of people were watching when my friend went through all the fatalities, and we were all like "WHOAH! OH MY GOSH!" Friend says "You need therapy after seeing this one." I also like Johnny Cage's second fatality; pretty funny. I have yet to see any of these "babalities" though. I didn't realize they existed in this game, though I saw they were in MK2.

I really like Johnny Cage a lot. I hear he was supposed to be kind of like MK's Dan originally, but in this game he's like top tear. He's a funny guy though. I also liked Stryker and Kano. I like how Stryker casually tosses a grenade over his shoulder and grins at the camera as his opponent explodes after he wins, and I like how Kano laughs as he chokes his opponent out on a grab. Anyhoo...

Yea the Noob fatality that I was referring to was Make a Wish, where he brings his shadow clone up and they treat you like a wish bone XD. Its pretty gruesome haha

For babalities, yea the are implemented in the game but you have to meet certain requirements to perform them. You have to know the code for them which can be looked up almost anywhere online and then you have to beat your opponent in the 2nd or 3rd round (whichever you win for the finish him to appear) without blocking, essentially it was as easy as taking candy from a baby bc you dont need to block. And I gotta say Johnny Cage's is one of the best. Here is his as a preview:

I'm loving the new MK games. The fatalities really make the game better.

My favourite characters is (obviously) Sub Zero, but I'm also maining Kabal and Stryker too. I never used to be able to get on with Kabal in MK3, but he is awesome in this one. His fatalities are good, especially Hook Up, which is his first one. Stryker is also surprisingly good. His fatalities are simple, but very brutal.

Quan Chi's fatality is perhaps the most brutal, and kinda scary. The one I'm referring to is the one where he beats the other guy to death with their own leg.

I've actually beaten Shao Kahn with everyone apart from Sindel (I hate Sindel). Shao Kahn, however, is the biggest cheater in the world. I remember in the old games I had more trouble on Goro/Kintaro than Shao Kahn. Now, it's the other way round. It's that damn hammer! Especially when he throws it.

Overall though, the new game is probably my favourite MK ever. Fighting game of the year for sure.

*EDIT: Also, I would like to add that I think Kratos sucks. Anyone think he's any good? I think he is waaaay too slow.

I agree with you Zan, that hammer is damn illegal! Shao Kahn is ridiculously overpowered in version of the game and Goro/Kintaro are now a cake walk lol. When he throws that hammer across the screen and stuns you I was like wth I can't block it or duck under it even though it looks like it should glide right over you on screen. Then of course if he gets close enough he does the shoulder charge either into another two shoulder charges or an elevated shoulder charge to catch you in the air.

It seems to me that when you start spamming your characters long range aerial attack (like Lou Kang's Fireball or Sektor's Missle) he just wants to tell you how much you suck or taunt you lol. So that's pretty much what I've done with the characters that I have beat him with. Only like 10 more to go bc I recently completed the challenge tower and got my Mileena skin and finished up getting all the krypt chests.

I've definitely found that projectile-spam is the key to beat Shao Kahn. I got double flawless on him with Reptile, with his slow force ball, followed by an uppercut.

I'm glad the hammer isn't just causing me problems. I heard that people are requesting a patch or an update to make the hammer throw blockable. If you try to play Kahn on the hardest difficulty, he spams it like a bitch!

I have been playing the shit out of this game since the day it came out. Which is why I have been doing nothing, but lurking here.

Everything about this game is absolutely amazing. Fatalities, gore, character roster, oh and the xray attacks. The xrays were probably my favorite thing about this game. It reminded me of my favorite Jet Li movie Romeo Must Die.

I bought it at work on Friday, and it's still in plastic. I've been so busy and so tired, I've not had the energy to play anything. So frustrating. ><

I'm really looking forward to playing soon, which will hopefully be tonight. It's been a long time since I've sunk my teeth into a good fighting game, and longer since I've played Mortal Kombat.

I would never call any previous iterations of MK "deep" in terms of the fighting system, but damn, this game is DEEP like a cavernous vagina. Most of the fun I've derived from this game has been from finding out ridiculous combos. Few games really give you this level of freedom to experiment with combos (Aside from Super Footsie Fighter IV, but then again no one but the Flash has the reflexes to actually pull off most of that stuff) without smashing your head into something because you missed the timing by half of a half of a frame. I love this goddamn game.
