I have absolutely no idea to get your own code on the DS. Any help?

Your DS Friend code depends on your game. Lets say...you have Animal Crossing WW. You would go to the gate, and they would assign you one.
XD Here is a better explanation:
Every game that is Wifi compatible has a access point somewhere in the game. If you go there, you will get your friend code.
