Quick-Joiners? An Issue

How come I see many people in this forum to join it and just leave? I see many accounts with less that 10 posts that were made a long time ago. I know that various factors keep people from contributing to the forums, but it really irks me to see all of those 1-post people who joined in '07. What are your thoughts?

No, I do not intend to be mean or insult anyone who just does not have enough time or just joined. I just want to see other peoples' opinions on this "issue" of sorts.

I'm sure many people are excited about joining the forum at first, but then find out that they don't like to post on forums all the time, so they leave. Not everyone likes to check forums everyday and post their opinions. Also some people join just to ask a question for one of the games and then when they get an answer they leave. Finally some people find out that they don't have enough time to check the forums frequently and post. I don't think it's a problem. This happens to just about all forums.

I am not seeing ht eissue in this, even though it does get a little tiring reading hello threads and responding to them then wondering if that person ever comes back to check it haha.

But Squall is correct for the most part on this and it is the same at almost any forum I have ever been a member on.

There are also the people who think that by joining they will get to see something that they can't see when they are an unregistered lurker, and when they realize there is nothing to see they go away.

Plus some people are just interested in what it would be like to be a forum member here and realize it is just not for them or they find a different forum they like better, who could like another forum ofther then TFF though heh.

So far, I see the main causes as excitement, search for priveliges, hype, boredom, and getting talked into it and quit later. I wish quick-joiners would be informed of the priveliges you get by being a member, what this is all about, and that you can be a guest if you want to try. ALL NEW PEOPLE, READ THIS WHOLE THREAD, BUT DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY. ACTUALLY, TAKE THE ADVICE PERSONALLY SO YOU DO IT...

I really don't see a problem with people joining to see if they like it or not, guest do not get the full privlidges that a member gets IE actually posting into thread. So they can not get the actual feel for the forum as a guest.

Most of them are not harming anyone by joining and since their post counts are relativly low their accounts exsistance takes up little to no room what so ever.

I am still failing to see the issue here and the over all point of this thread.

As for privlidges I am not sure what to make of this, you get what you see for the most part. There are a few things that even you and I can not see that are privildges that older memebers and mods only get to see. So in turn we don't even get the full privlidges as some of the others.

I know the precise reason why people don't stick around; this forum is boring. It's dead most of the time everywhere outside of the word games and humor section, which means that forces people (or me) to get into arguments in the word games and humor section, and bring those fights outside, in hopes that it carries over into something that isn't so boring... Of course, annoying people isn't boring... and it's not against the rules if I don't get warned, and so far I haven't. So the reasons are; this forum is boring, and the regulars are quite standoffish and unfriendly. It's like a cranky retirement community.

I have to strongly disagree with the last post. Compared to other sites this site is very active. And the majority of the people here are friendly, even the older memebers.

If I remember after your fiasco we all welcomed you with open arms and treated you respectably.

Don't you question me, Mr. Man. Friendly is a point of view. In my point of view, standoffish is unfriendly. It's not rude; it's just not friendly. As for the active thing compared to other forums, I haven't been on other forums, because the internet is a joke, but if those are more dead than this one, then I'm surprised that they're still around. As for the welcoming me with open arms and treating me with respect situation, calling something that I do or say a fiasco is the polar opposite of that, so you kind of just contradicted yourself. I'm just saying.

The "issue" is not so much of an issue as it is an annoyance. Sure, you may think of the "Welcome Newest Member" thing always changing to be something you ignore, but I however............. What the heck. I'll just stop worrying from now on. If those people don't like it here, their loss. I, however, am going to just stick here. Thanks for slapping me into good sense.

I was meaning by the events that occured because of your question I was not refering to you in general. But you where about to leave and decided to stay if I remember correctly and thats where the other part of my post came in.

But this is way off topic so I am leaving it at that. Once again this can be talked about via VM or PM if you wish to continue this discussion.

Another thing I noticed is that after viewing a certain number of posts, the forum would not let me view anymore unless I logged in. (See what a lurker I am! I don't even want people to know I am here, heh. Then again, I remembered I have my account in invisible mode, so only the administrators and super moderators know I'm here. Unless something's changed since I was a moderator...) So, in order to continue reading the forums, you have to create an account. Kind of a similar situation on AlbinoBlackSheep.com. I wanted to read the forums, but didn't want to participate really, because the members there can be... overtly antagonistic for my tastes. You have to have an account to even go to the forum index there, so I made an account and never posted once. I did send a few PM's to people.

Furthermore, there have been many forums I've joined, posted like 10 or 30 messages, and then never went back to them. Because I didn't feel like I fit in, or Irealized their community was more or less like TFF's, so I might as well go back to TFF. So there you have it. But you were already satisfied with everyone's answers. I just felt like sharing my two cents, so bleh

Erm...Yea...About this subject....I used to be one of those guys

I actually joined TFF in June 1st and didn't even post till the middle of October..Ask the guys.

What actually happened is that the ppl check how many members in the forums and then, they check if that website have a (chat rooms/ shout box), Arcade and even RPG inferno section, even though...lots of them don't play the RPG!!

There's another reason. Lots of those new members have a hard time making friends in the new forums they join so simply...They quit it and search for another forums. That's why you'll see that lots of websites got the same issue not only TFF.

The solution is very simple...When a newbie join the forums and make his own welcoming thread, the members should welcome him/her/it. Not just two or three members there must be at least 7-10 members. This way the newbie will feel comfortable and start posting knowing he's been accepted in the new forums and to the members of that forums.

I actually noticed something in TFF...You can see lots of members on but you don't see posts. Well...The posts usually in the humor section, and to be honest I'm one of those guys

I just say if we are more active in the other section like we are in "the humor..." this website will become one of the biggest and greatest FF Forums on the internet. Of course some of you guys should advertise for this website in other forums or ppl wont know anything about it.

The 2 obvious things about the topic at hand is pretty obvious. 1, if the site is slow, then it's hard to stay interested, and 2 even more so if you don't know anybody here why stay? There's a trillion FF sites and this has to be one of the smaller ones. There's a bunch with hundreds upon hundreds of members who post daily. On a consistent basis we don't have more than 100 people who everyday show up post here or are active members. So that nixes out a good amount just since you don't see activity so it feels drained. Then if you're in a place where you don't know anybody, just like in real life it makes things less interesting. People here are rather personable about themselves and there's easy ways to talk to others, but if all do is talk about why Cloud is coolest, I doubt you'll find your place here since after a week or so people just move up to GC.

Number of active posters almost always correlates with number of inactives. The more activity a forum, the more dead accounts it will rack up. It's just something you gotta deal with and accept.

I think this should be dealt with by going into each inactive account and replacing the About Me with "DISREGARD THAT I SUCK COCKS"

I don't think "DISREGARD THAT I SUCK COCKS" can solve this problem. If we did that you wont see any member joining in. They will become afraid of having "DISREGARD THAT I SUCK COCKS" in there about with me shit. What if one of the members got some real issues...like Martin. You have to understand that ppl have a real life and real problems.

If ppl want to leave the forums it's there choice. It was there choice to join the forums from the first place.

I think there are many reasons, including that Winter is the quietest time for the forums, so it DOES tend to be a little more boring. That said, there are plenty of reasons people leave; they get bored easily, only came here to ask a question about FF, become upset by another member and a whole other array of issues. It's a problem with most forums on the web -- you'll always have people that don't want to stick around or can't find the time.

I kinda found the forums searching for final fantasy pictures through google. I didn't plan on staying, I just wanted that picture. I got curious as to what was being said on the forums, mainly because I like final fantasy games, so I joined. Without thinking. Once I finally managed to get on with my own account, I went into panic because I saw lots of different forums. I thought I'd end up lost here, so I left for about... 1 or 2 weeks. Eventually, I did come back to have a look around. Here I am now.

Some people join forums because they had nothing better to do (like me lol ^_^;, get scared of either... the forums (like me again ) or the people on them already, or... they get bored. Some people just join to start as much trouble as they can, then leave. I've seen people like this on about... well, every damn forum there is out there. Don't know what thats about... *shrugs*

And like... Meier Link(?) was it who said that some people just join to have a question answered. They might come back from time to time with more questions, but they are inactive. Some just don't even bother... I don't understand why people join this way, because they can usually find an answer over google search, but I guess some people don't always think that way...

Oh yeah! Some people just join because they have friends on the same forum. They might not know what the forum is, but they will join anyway. Then they drift into inactivness.

I wouldn't say this forum was boring - I'm on pretty much every damn evening when I haven't got work to do. If I was that bored, I would have taken that picture when I had the chance and left for good! It is quite active here. Some people are like me - on everyday - and some people aren't, but pop on every few days or once a week. Don't mean they are inactive...

I know what they're doin to. I mean, we cant always talk about FF all the time. Even now we run out of topics and mostly ppl are chatting on the general chat ones.

And another reason why I always say "make sure u stay active" almost every single time a new person comes here. I mean, if they even dare post at the intros, they must want to surely stay here for as long as they can, even if it may be a liitle boring?

My point? I hate it too. Wastes up their time even bothering to come here. No offense of anything if I did. People, if ur not going to stick here, just visit a few times, and leave. No need to make urself an account.
