I'm kinda into MintJam and Day after Tommorow. They both have some great music. I pretty much love the Final Fantasy OST remixes MintJam does, and Day after Tommorow is just fun to listen to.
Kinda sucks it's so hard to get your hands on J-pop/rock nowadays.
I saw Electric Eel Shock live a couple of years ago. They were pretty good.

X-Japan hands down, greatest japanese rock band ever. Though I also do enjoy Malice Mizer (Before Gackt came into the picture...he sounds like a billy goat -_-), L'arc en Ciel, The Pillows, Psycho le Cemu, some AKFG, some Orange Range, some Dir en Grey, and that's all. The only j-pop I like is DAI (Do As Infinity) and Naomi Tamura, great singers from both musicians.
Hahahahah. FTW!Originally Posted by Griffith
I mostly listen to JROCK now ... I do like Pierrot (reecntly got a few songs), Kagrra, SiD, and various songs from other bands ... X-Japan, Dir en Grey, a little bit of Hyde (Laruku is a little too poppy for me ... although their Otakon concert was AMAZING), /\ucifer, Buck-tick, Siam Shade, hide ... ahha =P
ORANGE RANGE always struck me as more rap ... haha.
There's also a semi-new band that "recently" started from some members from BLOOD I believe. Called Suicide Ali =o They have some of their MP3s up on their site...
Speaking of JROCK, one of my friends runs a JROCK station, "Tainted Reality" Thursday nights 7-10 PM if anyone's interested in that ... ALL requests are taken and they have a lot of music from bands I haven't even heard of before xD~ and interviews as well ... there's a BLOOD one coming up.![]()
Kagrra and Kagerou are not bad Japanese rock bands, but in terms of what I typically listen to, Sigh is an amazing band.

Black mages **** up songs to be frank. That's why I like MintJam's remixes. They don't do that. have you actually ever hear the Overworld remix the Black mages made?
OMFG, that song is tragic to listen to -.-'
Rofl, when I had WinMX I found there was a lot of remixes and downloaded an entire CD's worth and every song was AWESOME. Lots of really cool trance and club music.
Gackt is such pop garbage - you might as well be listening to brittany spears.
The Pillows ****ing rock, but their new stuff isn't as good- i've been trying like hell to find copies of Pigment and Hollywood by The Silver Fins, but they're nowhere to be found! not even amazon.co.jp, cdjapan, or any other place on the web has their cd's available.

I've been on this site since 2006 woah
Evarn?
I'd have to say X-Japan, but not only have they broken up over a decade ago; their lead guitarist is also dead.
Current, hmm.... The Pillows, I also like Kung-fu Generation, I really like Monkey Majik (Thank Skai for that one) if you want to classify them as Japanese, Dir en Grey isn't bad.... Orange Range. I'm more or less prone to listen to the j-rock that ends up as the cover song for an anime, since I'm mindless about the music of other cultures (outside X-Japan, who are ****ing amazing)
Edit: Oh, and The Black Mages. =DDD

I'm going to be totally cliche here and admit that my favourite Jband is Dir En Grey. Just like the melodies and the sound.
I remember thinking Lifelover was Japanese until I heard the lyrics in my ears, and realised they were Swedish. The music just sounded like it fit jmusic perfectly. Oh well.![]()

I was the holder of the highest amount of rep that ever lived on TFF. 1788. lolz. I ween.
I don't care much for Jrock bands anymore, but there are some songs by a few bands that I like, such as Luna Sea, Raphael, X Japan, TOKIO, Penicillin, Janne da Arc, Malice Mizer and a few other random ones.
However, my favorite J-band is Lareine. XD
Favorite J-Band? Actually I dont really have one, but I think my favorite J-Rock/J-pop/eurobeat/idk what to even call it because I'm a noob is probably none other than Dave "I smoke blunts everyday" Rogers. Like his eurobeat stuff is so good compared to anyone else and he knows how to make creative and catchy songs more than any other songwriter I know, except maybe Outkast. Hope that clears things up.

hahas, updated July 28th (oldie but goodie!):
My Favourite J-Band is Rip Slyme.
I don't usually like rappingness but they are really good, and I like how the rhyme English words with Japanese words. Very unique idea methinks.
Wu Tang Killa Bee's, We On The Storm.
Ha I suspected to see a thread like this.
Well I am a huge J-Pop fan, I have like 10 CDs and I know all the songs by heart! XD
My favorite bands are
Miyavi
Nightmare
Kagrra
HYDE
Psychic Lover
BoA
MAXIMUM THE HORMONE
And Antic Cafe
I have been obsessed with Nightmare more often though, they are just totally kickass!

I don't listen to many J-bands or J-rock artists. Just maybe five that my friend introduced me to, but of those, I like these the best:
-Miyavi
-LM.C
-Kelun
-Younha (does she count?)
Such a small list it is, but those are the only ones I know enough to like. Don't know how or why, but those first three play the kind of music I like. Maybe UVER-world could fit into there, but I don't know.
hmm, I think Miyavi's band is sorta gay. My opinion. Enven though one of my favorite j-Rockers was the back up guitar for him, I still say Miyavi's band is stupid.
But I'd have to say my favorite J bands are:
Nightmare
LM.C/www.Lovely-Mocochang.Com (WOOO MAYA! lol, hes badass in my opinion)
Kosaka Riyu
X Japan
RoughSketch
The Gazette
Those are my favorite Japanese Bands, I am currently listening to LM.C, and I am going to try and cosplay Maya, lol, I might fail, but oh well. It will be fun.

Not a very long list for me. For the most part, I'm a country boy, but I love J-music, too. May as well do up the list...
The Black Mages
Orange Range
Yui
UVERworld
Nana Mizuki
Utada Hikaru
L'Arc~en~Ciel
Nightmare
If I think of any more that I really like, I'll let y'all know.
I stare out towards the silvery moon

My favourite is Kishidan.
Got into them through the Ouendan games, there's some great songs which lead to great bands between the two. I'd recommend ordering it if you having a DS.
I listen to a lot, but really, all I need is Asian Kung-Fu Generation and Sambomaster. These two bands are awesome live!
I listen to so many now, my iTunes is more or less filled with Japanese bands/artists.
My favourite is Dir En Grey. I would happily call these my favourite band ever. I've never heard a bad song by them. Absolutely amazing live too.
I have become a big fan of Miyavi lately. The way he plays Acoustic guitar is one of the most amazing and innovative things I have ever seen. Just check out this video to see what I mean
YouTube - miyavi playin guitar
Maximum The Hormone are good too. Got into them from when they done the second opening and ending for Death Note (What's Up People and Zetsubou Billy respectively) and never looked back. What's Up People is my most played song on my computer!
I also love MUCC. Probably along with Dir En Grey and Maximum The Hormone, they are the heaviest bands I listen to nowadays. MUCC bring something different to the table.
Others I really like:
Gackt, UVERworld, Black Mages, Orange Range, The GazettE, Girugamesh, D'espairsray, Home Made Kozoku, Malice Mizer, Mad Capsule Markets, Nightmare.

Probably the first Japanese artists that I really started liking and still like today would be the I've Sound girls. I've been listening to their songs for years now, and they are still producing some great songs, albeit more sparsely now, but they are nonetheless. Mami Kawada and KOTOKO have some pretty great songs.
As for Jrock, my favorite band would probably be xTRiPx. In my opinion they've released some pretty good songs recently. Some of their older releases might be a little questionable at times (what do you expect from an indie band), but I think they're pretty solid now.
As for other artists, I've really started to like supercell, Do As Infinity, moumoon, Maaya Sakamoto, Akiko Shikata, and Yuki Kajiura's bands.
I'm starting to think I listen to too much Japanese music. =/
