I have always wondered why there is always a Cid in Final Fantasy. I love that one connection throughout the game but curiousity has me wondering why that is. Does anyone know?

My Favourite cid is probably in X. Can't beat catchphrases like 'YEEEEEEHAAWW HERE WE GO!'

I can't remember what the name of the developer was. Cid was the english translation of the japanese name though.

Yeah everygame has a Cid and they all have an airship in common. Except for maybe FF6 Cid who ended up being the one on the island in start of WOR with Celes.

Its a Final Fantasy tradition. Just as there are Chocobos, Moogles and Airships in almost every game, there's a guy named Cid who usually has some connection to airships in one way or another.

in 8 it was odd cos he was a principle yet xii hes a doctor, its weird how different the jobs are yet the character is so similar

It's not an anagram for anything or in honor of anyone as far as anyone knows, and there's no basis for that rumor about it being in honor of a developer. The name "Cid" may refer to the famous El Cid from Spanish traditions, but that's just speculation as well.

Also, the name's Cid in English, and Cid in Japanese, and there really isn't any way to shuffle those letters to make another name(besides Dic). It's been written in Japanese texts and media as Cid using english letters many times throughout the years, so it's not something different in Japanese. Cid is Cid, and always has been.

The actual kana used for the name in Japanese are "Shi" and "Do" which makes it even shorter in Japanese than in English, and even more impossible to be an anagram of anything. Doshi would be the only other possible combination of those two kana, and there is no one named Shido or Doshi on the staff roll of FFII, the first FF to have a Cid.

Lol I just call it Spirits Within, without the Final Fantasy part. I agree, Cid should be a girl in the next one. I thought up an FF where Cid is a girl, her name is Cideeka, Cid for short.
