Most useless item in a video game.

Yes, I dare say it. In all the video games you have ever played, what was the most useless? What provided you no assistance, gave any bit of leeway, or just pissed you off when you happened to come across it?

Goldeen from Super Smash Bros. I Hate this pokemon so much now because of SSB. When the match is close to the end, when I'm down to a single life, and I'm really, reeeeeaaaaallly need a good pokemon, (You know, like Electrode or Dialga or even ****ing Torchic) But no! When I throw that pokeball, full of mixed desperation, hope and anxiety, out comes a goddamn fish. I feel like doing a Kirbycide when I realize that my opponent is laughing at me because of the cruel irony.

The Hawkeye in Twilight Princess. You saved up to get it in anticipation, hoping it'd be some awesome side story launcher, or at least somewhat useful, but no. It's a scope kind of, doesn't zoom in very far, but you can see something you could hit unscoped slightly better.

Here's a few:

Tissues in Final Fantasy VII. I suppose they do serve a sort of joke purpose though. They're given to you when you lose in the Battle Arena (hardy-har-har). There's another thing in FF VII that I never understood the purpose of: 1/35 Soldier. :/

Giant's Knife in Ocarina of Time. Man, was I pissed the first time when it broke...after spending 200 rupees to get it too!

Finally, I'll say that the Suporma from Earthbound... Got it once just to see what would happen. It plays a song and then immediately breaks afterward. Thanks for that Orange Kid.

Yeah, the 1/35 Soldier action figures don't do anything for you either, just yet another worthless item There is a secret sidequest in OoT that let's you get an unbreakable Giant Sword though, which comes in handy

When I think of worthless items, I think of the old obscure rpg game on the ps1 called "shadow madness". It had probably around twenty times the amount of items that served no purpose except to clutter up your inventory space, and the thing was, in that game you did have a limited amount of space that filled up pretty quick. Stuff like that made dungeon crawls pretty lengthy

Holy crap, and here I thought I was the only person to ever play that. With its oodles of worthless items designed to be resold to different shops for profit - a terrible system that may have worked with a larger inventory.

Also, I'm sure a few of you would disagree but I always found the 'Repel' items from Pokémon redundant. I know they have a sensible use, but with the time it takes to purchase them and find and use them in the item menu, I just can't be bothered with them. 'Tis much quicker to run from those battles with Geodude.

I immediately think of cups, eating utensils, and other things used for eating in the Elder Scrolls games. Especially the items that had very little monetary value, like the clay cups. All you got to do was look at them in the earlier games (NPC's used them in Oblivion though. Dunno if you could.)

How about trash in Animal Crossing? Took up space in your inventory, and I don't think you could even give it away at the store; you had to deposit it in your town dump. (Yes, I played that game... *shrug*) Anyhoo...

I would sometimes send the trash that I acquired to a neighbor as a gift. It's also useful to set trash out and wait for flies so you can catch them for your bug inventory or for the museum.

I played that game too, and was quite addicted to it for a while.

I thought a good deal of the items in Fallout 3 were useless, like plates, the pressure cooker, tin cans, and just odds and ends. I know you could launch them with the Rock-It-Launcher, but really, sometimes enough is enough.

Also, similarly related, I thought some of the spells from FFVIII were absolutely useless. I never really used status spells like sleep, but I'd be damned if I didn't need 100 of them to boost one little stat.

I heard in FFVII the Tissues are used to cry at Aeris's Chapel. Never tried cause I didn't care. Anyone who relies on a pokeball in Smash is a noob! (j/k Ruin)

The Giant's Knife is used for some challenges in OOT but other then that useless.

The Eggs, the giant Ice Key. This was my very first game I just did everything in it. I got all the damned eggs and even the Giant Ice Key for hopes in Banjo Tooie you can use them like they promised....never happened. Items? Pointless.

It's cool with the joke haha. I normally try to avoid using items, but against a tough player (like someone who can desynch the ice climbers), then you gotta use whatever you can.

Another useless item I found is the bee from The Legend of Zelda. It wastes jar space, and barely does anything except occasionally sting either the enemy, or yourself. =P

Agreed. I still had a habit of picking up the useless junk and putting it around my house though. Same with Fallout 3 and New Vegas. ^^;

And it annoys me when you get stuck with something. The amount of times quest items have gotten stuck AFTER a mission is ridiculous. They don't always take up weight, but it's annoying when it clogs up the inventory. >> Only thing I liked was Umbra - that takes up forty weight when you complete the mission attached to it, but weighs nothing before.

Measures in FFXII. Who the hell would use those? They don't do much. >>;

The Shiitake and Matsutake ranks in Kingdom Hearts. They take painstaking efforts to get, and they don't do anything but take up space in your inventory.

I guess they're bragging rights, but would something more useful have been too much to ask for? Oh well.

What a useless item this is, I think I'm allowed to refer to Cait Sith as an item since he is a toy cat on giant mog. He has never taken part as a key member of my fighting parties unless he was required. His weapon is a megaphone and he only has 2 limits. USELESS!

lol...no for real though, there is a lot of crap in the Fallout games. I would love to see a game save of someone who collected ALL the trash and sold it in Fallout 3. That would be legendary.

In Darkstone, an RPG for PS1, there is an option in a mission to choose between three weapons on a table. The graphics are so shitty though, you cant tell the difference between the two of them. So when I chose the center one, I get this message: "Wow, you chose the incredibly useless wooden sword!" It had 1 attack point. 1. Dammit!

I could name a few:

- Headless hammer in smash bros melee and brawl - when the top pops up you know you're in trouble.

- The empty sodapop can from megaman legends/64 - sure its useless but you can kick it into the bakery shop to earn zenny.

- The mop in Chrono Trigger - thing only deals 1 HP of damage I believe haha, funny to use though.

- The sleep powerup in the Kirby series - Ugh i hate when i get these, they only slow you down -_-.

- All the excess stuff in maniac mansion - there are items in this game that you don't need to pick up at all but they're there if you want to get them. Week old roast, Old Rotting Turkey, Tentacle chow, A hamster (which you can use to blow up in the microwave if you wanted to mwahahaha) and that also goes for items that don't work with the characters you bring to the mansion.

Dog droppings in Resonance Of Fate, I haven't used them but once and they did nothing. I think they are pretty much useless, that and the amount of trash items I have in my inventory on Fallout 3.

I know it's not an item and im sorry for breaking the rules, but some spells on the NES FF series were useless...I believe Ruse was supposed to increase evade but it was a huge glitch to take up spell inventory space....

also, Heal was also a waste....

BOF2 also had like...tolkens? they were like 1/35th soldiers and other bullshit that would take up inventory.....

I could name one. Spicy Cake from Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. I guess it's only human to create a failure when you're inventing items, but I think inventing food that K.O.'s your character is a bit exaggerating!
