Sims 2 deluxe problem

Well I had problems with this with my old discs so I bought the sims 2 deluxe and isntalled it its doing the same thing. I create a sim and then it gets stuck on the screen for hours with the family and never goes to the neighborhood screen to buy them a house and such. But I am able to play the premade families. I have no clue what to do. I did the can you play it test? and it says I pass. It also sometimes freezes on the create a sim screen.

I have asked on the sims 2 forums and other places but everything i do that someone suggests it dosent work.

From my experiance, computers with only the minimum RAM standard often make the program crash if it goes through a particuarly memory consuming action. I.E. loading the neighbourhood or recovering from an ALT+TAB.

If your PC's RAM is 512Mb then I recommend upgrading it, that's really all I can suggest.
