That is quite interesting bits of information. The First Confessor is more his standard size of 700 pages or so long.
Yeah, I wasn't too happy about it only being available on an ereader. Way to upset long term fans. But then I'm not really interested in Debt of Bones. Like I've mentioned, it's £8.99 (standard price of any paperback in the UK) for a book that's a hundred and twenty-five pages long. That's how many pages I can cover in a day on London transport. If The First Confessor is that short, then really, I can't be bothered with it. There's a synopsis on Wikipedia if I ever feel like I'm dying to read them. I hope he continues. There's still so much more he can cover. I've been trying to find information on it, but everything seems to say it came out last year... but The Omen Machine barely more than five months old, so that can't be right. Unless The Omen Machine was supposed to be longer than what was published (I can believe that). I've heard he's been having arguments with the publisher Tor, which doesn't sound too good. I think my manager might have heard he scrapped the deal with Tor and was looking for someone else to publish his work instead of scrapping the entire Richard and Kahlan series.
There is an ebook he self released a few months back that dwals with the ancient past of the Sword of Truth series - The First Confessor: the Legend of Magda Searus. I am a bit upset that it is only available through an ereader as I lack one in my possession. It was going to be published by Tor but he decided to self publish. He had like 4 books under contract that need to be written - 2 w/ Tor & 2 w/ Putnam. Speaking of series endings I finished the last book in the Wheel of Time - A Memory of Light. Pretty good ending though it left me w/ a few questions I felt needing answered, only one was a "major" question. I think if I re-read the entire seies I may find my answer. I did like how he was able to create a villian after the main series using his grandfather Panis' actions in unifying D'hara as very reasonable. It didn't feel like he was grabbing. We'll see if he decides to continue on as time passes.
I love the series. I didn't see that end coming, honestly though. I guessed he'd have the power of Orden, but I didn't expect that haha. Was a little sad to see Jennsen and Tom go to the new world though... even though I understood the reasoning. I felt like he rushed the ending of The Omen Machine, which leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I've also heard a rumour that he doesn't like the way the series is going, and has cancelled a sequel to it, which I hope to discover to be false. He messed the ending up, but Omen Machine as a series is still very salvageable. I haven't tried The Law of the Nines yet, although I have heard about it. I want to give it a go, but lately I've been more in the mood for high fantasy reading. Can't pull myself away from the sci-fi/fantasy section in Waterstones. xD;
I read your post in the "longest book you've read". I liked the Sword of Truth series very much. I liked how he ended the series; a nice twist of creating two earths. Did you by chance read The Law of Nines? It has some references to the SoT series. Omen Machine felt a bit short - the font size mafe the book longer than it actually was. I think he may have left it alone & continued with what he was going with the Law of Nines.
God didn't write the Bible. Humans did. What if the Bible itself is a wrong interpretation? After all, the Bible was written over a period of 1400 to 1800 years by more than forty different authors, all with slightly or incredibly different interpretations of "God's Word". There's no straight forward rules in it. Time has changed dramatically, and because of that, I can only see it as a guide book if you're a follower. As a atheist, I view it as a work of fiction, and/or a book that'll teach you morals - because of the later, I believe it to be a guide.
Free will doesn't mean that right or wrong are variable to the Christian person. It just means you can do right or wrong which is decided by God as Starfighter said. Interpretation is where humans get to varying but if they interpret wrong they they are wrong, but only God would know thus that conundrum. The bible is more than a guide book. God is the World and the Word is God. The Word of God is the bible. That book is not merely a guide, if God says do something it is not to be interpreted to fit a person's view instead it should be done.
Your hypothetical situation is quite true. Hell, I was kind of like Vicky. The logic behind it is I just don't figuratively jump on something if it is free unless I'm interested in it to begin with. Because something is free does not get me interested in the thing. Maybe it is some type of frugalness that I don't always take something that is free. It's not like I don't try new things out. With food, for example, I've tried different cuisines though I do try to pick stuff I think I'll like. Of course, that is different having to pay for the food and all. I read different books.
I've come here because I don't want my thread going any more off topic than it already has (my fault too, not blaming anyone, case on that closed). But anyway... Sure, you know what you like. Everyone knows what they like. But that's going to be forever limited if you don't try things out once in a while. You could say "Oh, but I know I won't like/enjoy this because of so-and-so..." but what's to say you definitely won't enjoy it? For example, Vicky thought she'd really like FFXIII based on what she knew, but really didn't like it when it came out. A lot of people didn't like it after they bought it, and they only bought it because "It's a FF game, so it's got to be awesome!". Of course, shooting yourself in the foot is a big "not like". That's just obvious because it'll hurt. I'm not saying you're stupid for not downloading the games or taking advantage of it, I just fail to see the logic part. Not everything that's free is good, sure. Just it's a free opportunity to try something out. xD
No, it wasn't aimed at you. ^^
Was your response after quoting me in the "what got removed b/c of the 360" directed at me? It seems to be more at Angel of Iniquity, but I'm just checking.
