Even if the majority of the people want it (democracy), that doesn't mean that a right should be taken away. Europe has less gun crime, sure, but not less crime in general than the United States.

Criminals, whether they are civilian or government, always prefer unarmed victims.

I'll admit, it's actually pretty fun knowing that you're right, and knowing that other people are wrong!^^

Of course people with firearms in their homes are more likely to accidentally shoot someone in their home. Just like people who own cars are much more likely to hit somebody with a car.

Anyway. 1984 is one of my all time favourite books. I don't know how many times I've read it. The end kind of destroys your soul a little bit, but it's well worth it. A Clockwork Orange is great too, I love the language and the themes, and the book is miles above the film, even though the movie is great.

I'd avoid Brave New World, though. It's really not up to much at all. I picked it up expecting great things, and couldn't finish it. It's rare that I don't finish a book - it has to be pretty terrible. I've never quite worked out just how it got the reputation it did. My copy is serving as a stabiliser under a bedpost at the moment.

I will pick up Logan's Run. It sounds neat.

Don't let Heather get you to read Oryx and Crake. You will be bored to tears.

If you like Never Let Me Go, you will adore - I mean down to the ground - some of Margaret Atwood's work. I'd really suggest that you pick up The Handmaid's Tale and Oryx and Crake. The former is the best of the two, but it's a really close competition.

Both are stories of dystopian futures that are never really fully explained; like Never Let Me Go, these worlds are just the story. Atwood doesn't patronise you by laying it all out.

The Handmaid's Tale is set, I'm fairly sure, in America. Wars are alluded to, as is nuclear disaster, but all we know is that our narrator is a woman trapped by her new society. This society is built the Bible, and she is just a breeding machine. I really think you'd like it.

Oryx and Crake is a different broken future - everyone seems to be dead from a virus apart from our protagonist, 'Snowman', and a group of children known as the Crakers. It's lovely and subtle, at the same time as being chilling and real. Good times.
